Sharpened using the same techniques as those used to make Samurai swords, Damascus knives undergo a process of lamination where the super-hard carbon steel core is layered with 67 coatings of stainless steel for a distinctive blade that is strong yet flexible with a superior cutting edge. This multi-layering technique is believed to have been discovered in Damascus around 300BC hence the name eventually making its way east to be perfected by Japanese sword-smiths where the blades finish was aptly named kasumi-nagashi or floating mist. Full tang with an ice-tempered blade, each beautifully balanced knife has a riveted handle that gives you excellent precision and control

We reserve the right to require proof of age before a knife can be purchased. It is an offence to sell a knife to a person under the age of 18 years in VIC, WA & NT and under the age of 16 in SA, NSW & ACT.

      • Yeah I was also charged twice…. But I think Paypal pending transaction will fall away automatically later.

    • paypal flagged mine as well, the credit card was charged but goodguys not paid. is there something wrong with the good guys paypal account ?

      • Yeah Paypal charged me but didn't get to actually complete my order. To make things worse I can't find any number for online orders and now the 18cm Santoku is out of stock. Going to raise a Paypal dispute.

Edit: Managed to get through to customer care, order not going to be fulfilled and getting a refund.

    • Select delivery to Damascus.

  • Was gonna buy the whole set but 18cm is unavailable now

  • These look like Valyrian Steel from GOT! It has that carbon pattern thing.

    • Green Orange Thieves?

  • Bah,
    Said available for pickup.
    Chose pickup.
Then not available for pickup. All within 1-2sec.

    Now only available 73km away.

  • Are these better than the kiwi brand knives?

Paid $60 before I saw the VIP night. Went to TGG and the manager refunded me 10%!

Kudos to TGG. Happy with two knives. Thanks OP!

Yay, got an error message that there was a problem using my credit card to pay when checking out through paypal for the 15cm knife, so tried again selecting CC option instead. After payment was submitted, got re-directed to empty cart page stating, "Warning, there is nothing in your cart." Checked CC statement. Two pending payments to good guys for $32 and no confirmation email, etc that any order was placed. :D

  • Having only experience with kiwi and homebrand knives, how good are they in the kitchen for general use?

    • +2

Paring knife: not good to have razor sharp as you're often purposely cutting against your thumb with them.

Boning knife: a softer steel than VG-10 is better to avoid chipping.

Serrated bread knife: if you cut a lot of hard crusted bread, good to have, but bread is miraculously dulling on knives and serrated not easy to sharpen. A sharp Chef's knife gives nicer cuts without the ripping (and doesn't rip up your bread board), but not sure I'd sacrifice a sharp Jap Chef's knife on bread.

Utility knife - not needed IMO, better to become confident with chef's knife and use the paring for smaller jobs.

Santoku: better for chopping action rather than rocking as they haven't the board liftoff with their low blade curvature. Thin beveled VG10 more suited to rocking/slicing than chopping, which can microchip it.

Chef's knife: 15 cm pointless - I wouldn't even call that a Chef's knife. 20 cm absolute minimum, 24-25 cm better - need length for rocking/slicing action, collecting food and to vertically clear food.

Other knives listed - just not needed IMO. Get good with a paring and Chef's knife. The Chef's knife's tip is very versatile too. Add boning if deboning lots of meat or filleting if filleting fish. I started with a full set of Globals a long time ago and only used two of them. Since then I just get Chef's and paring.

  • Links broken

  • Interesting trivia- these are not true Damascus steel as the technique of making Damascus steel was lost in the 18th century and has never been rediscovered. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel#Loss_of_the_tec…
    Well interesting to me anyway

order cancelled. great deal OP but very poor from the not so good guys

  • Did anyone get their orders honoured?

  • +1

    Order cancelled here too.

  • -1

I ordered mine about 30mins after this post went up, order has been cancelled too.
I also had the Paypal error, so paid with Amex. So holding double of my money at the moment.

  • My order has also been cancelled. BS. Doubt that anyone will receive theirs.

  • Further strengthens my opinion of TGG - probably why they try to instill confidence in their name like "Honest Sam's Used Cars" does.

Now they sell unsecured stock? Probably not - they just didn't expect buyers to discuss and find out no-one's order went through.

  • How can you contact them, pretty sh1t response if you ask me

      • Thanks

      • -1

I have sent them an email - I think we should get some compensation

        • I think we should get some compensation

for what.. you ordered, they couldn't supply and refunded
what financial loss did you suffer to require compensation for?

  • Got mine delivered today 😁

    • Which knife? What time did you order?

      • The 18cm Santoku knife. I ordered not long after it was listed.

  • I received my Santoku + Veg Cleaver. I ordered about 5 hours after the deal was posted but was allocated a store for my order pretty quick.

    • Can you upload a picture of your knife, so we can have a look?

      • I've already given them away as gifts unfortunately! They didn't look too flashy tbh.

        • Thanks man, the GG have not returned the money….yet

  • Got a call to say it was ready for pick up then got a cancellation email. I called the store and they said it’s ready for pick up. I think it’s just orders with PayPal that got cancelled.
