  • Resident evil triple pack just a copy and paste from ps3 to ps4? Is that why Sony doesn't want to make ps4 backward compatible so they can sell all those ps3 games again to ps4 owners?

    • Yep. While over at Xbox One, Microsoft have hundreds of backwards compatible games from Xbox 360 for $0.00 if you already own on Xbox 360.

The triple pack would likely have been ported from the PC version for PS4. To port from PS3 to PS4 would be a massive effort. See below for a semi comprehensive explanation.

The PS3 is the main reason that the PS4 is not backwards compatible. The architecture differences (cell processor vs x86) between the two meant that without a cell processor, it would take very complex emulation to get that backward compatibility.

This is where the problem starts. Emulation has a performance cost, and it's a significant one. I doubt that for all the processing power the PS4 has that it could emulate a PS3 game without significant performance issues. What's more frustrating, terrible backwards compatibility or no backwards compatibility?

So, why not have a PS4 with a cell processor in it? Well, cost. Sony was lynched for releasing the original PS3 with the Emotion Engine (PS2 processor) purely because of the cost. That thing was expensive! Is it any wonder why an updated model without the Emotion Engine was released? Ironically, Sony was again lynched for removing the backwards compatibility from the PS3. Talk about damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Why is backwards compatibility for the Xbox 360 on the Xbox One so easy? Well, that's much easier to explain. The architecture is the same in being x86. Minimal effort is required to get a previous generation game to run either with or without emulation. For the most part it would have only required a patch, if that.

This is where Sony will be under pressure with the PS5. The architecture between PS4 and PS5 is not expected to change. It would not make sense for Sony to move away from the x86 platform and it definitely wouldn't make sense for Sony to not include backward compatibility on release.

  • What's the difference between Overcooked:Gourmet and Hoilday Bundle? Both are at $10.45 and I'm wanting to buy one of the two

    • +1

Buy the Holiday Bundle, as it comes with "The Festive Seasoning" DLC (not sure if the Gourmet Edition does).

Note, the Festive Seasoning DLC doesn't automatically download, nor does it show up in your download history (only the base game and Lost Morsel DLC shows up).

You can either go to the webstore/PSN Store and search for Festive Seasoning, and hit the download button. Or, go to the game icon on the dashboard, press down on the controller, wait for the menu to pop up, go down to PlayStation Store then press right on your controller to bring up the add-ons, you can download the additional DLC that way.

Once you buy the Holiday Bundle, it marks the Gourmet Edition as Purchased as well.

Overcooked is a great couch co-op game, highly recommend.

    • I've lost so many friends and family playing this. Do not play this if you don't plan to make enemies.

Funnily enough, it was like that at the start, with the whole family yelling at each other. It was hilarious.

However, now that our son has decided he has other game he wants to play, it's just me and the wife playing overcooked. Ever since then, we've been like fighter pilots with intense concentration and terse, quiet commands/requests, until we clear the level and it's all big whoops!

We've already beaten every level multiple times and have gone on to improve on our scores… Can't wait to purchase the 2nd one - when it's no longer full price. :)

          Gotta get them 3 stars
