We've been selling electric scooters for over 2 years all over Australia and in that time have had no one contact us who has used the scooters on the footpath with any issues when doing so.
But of course, if your state prohibits the use of electric scooters on the footpath, and only riding on private property then that is what we would recommend.

  • And illegal to use on roads and footpaths in NSW as a "powered foot scooter" - check your own state regulations. The fine is worth more than the scooter.

    • Dang - beaten by 11 seconds!

No Shame. Silver medal for you.

We check every scooter prior shipment - FREE of charge.

Coz god forbid they have any quality control on their own product before shipping it to you. Other companies must charge for that.

    • i probably see 5-6 a day, i'm lead to believe if you are not pissing anyone off a blind eye is turned

      • These regulations are truly bureaucracy gone mad. It's simply unreasonable and overly restrictive. Needlessly restricting sales and amenity for the general public. Especially when you see these used all over Europe with no problems….

  • +2

Must be limited to 10kph and 200w output with a plate or sticker certifying the maximum output placed on the scooter by the manufacturer in Qld.

    Illegal… sorry…

    • -1

kinda sucks that these are outlawed…. when electric skateboards are ok…

      • Are we sure electric skateboards are okay? Motorised skateboards…cannot be registered or used on a road or road-related area, such as a path, under any circumstances..
I mean, I see a lot around on my ride along the river, so it appears that at the least the law is not enforced, but it's not clear to me that they are legal either…
I also see motorised foot scooters travelling much faster than 10km/h, so I'm not sure that law is really enforced either.

I live in Surfers Paradise, which is basically Bali where electric scooters & other rideables are concerned - it's an absolute free-for-all. I've never seen anyone get in trouble for anything, despite reckless riding on footpaths, roads, & tram lines. You could probably get away with this thing here, if you just ride around normally.

        • Most uniforms on the street have NFI

      • Electric skateboards are also illegal in Queensland

The only thing legal is an electric bicycle with an output of 200w or 250w if the motor operates only while pedalling. Or an electric foot scooter with a 10kph/200w limit

        • well that scuks….

thought i see quite a few of them roaming the Brisbane CBD

  • I'm going to wait until one of these scooter sharing startups comes to Sydney … seems like that's a much better model (at least for me) than buying it outright.

    • Won't happen because they are illegal on all public property in NSW and councils hate share systems so won't turn a blind eye to anyone using one.

Electric bicycles are legal and there may be a way to make an almost scooter e-bike.
Though bicycle on footpath is illegal, though mostly ignored unless an Operation Pedro is running.

You can't advertise it as a mode of transport and say it is for private land use only.

I guess I'll fork out $600 to ride in circles on my 2m grass backyard. -sarcasm-

  • On most of the pictures on that website the guy is carrying his scooter. Are they really reliable…

    • +6

I'm assuming that its because it's super light and cool to walk around with, combined with the fact that you basically can't legally ride it anywhere…

      • +3

or couldn't be stuffed waiting around 4 hours to charge the battery…

      • haha Good one.

Lol … Whenever I get arrested for possession, I write to my dealer to tell him all about it. Whenever I get a girl knocked up, I write to my parents to tell them all about it. Whenever I get a parking fine in my car, I write to my car dealer to tell him about. Only logical that I would tell my scooter dealer about my run-ins with the law on their device.

Oh wait - I didn't do any of those things.

I should've added "When my girlfriend yells at me for sexting on tinder, I tell apple all about it"

I'm 60… why is an E-Scooter unsuitable for me?

    • There shouldn't be any reason that is is not suitable for you, I can sense your energy already! Will revised for the description, thankyou for pointing that out. ;-)

  • -2

Not a bargain if its actually illegal to use it for whats its built to be used for.

    • Skate park?

    • Totally agree.
A pushy with a 250W front electric wheel ($100) and a li-ion pack, is a good legal option (in WA).

      • This sounds interesting..do you have any links or tutorials etc?

  • I often spot people riding on xiaomi scooter (250W) on Swanston st. Seems okay in Melb even the law says the opposite?

    • Seems okay in Melb even the law says the opposite?

I did a lot of research in to this a few years ago when hoverboards and unicycles were all the rage. In NSW, the government was at trialing use to electric personal mobility devices in some suburbs, but it doesn't seem like there's been any progress.

Something is eventually going to give - either someone will die on one of these devices and they'll have a crack down on them (both for sellers and consumers using them) or the big VC backed companies will bring them into the city, litter our streets with them and the government will retrospectively give them the all clear (kind of like with uber).

Either way, I wouldn't want to be the test case for which way the government swings.

You could most likely push with your foot once in a while to make it look less suspicious?

  • +2

Forget all the annoying negative replies! If it's illegal keep it to yourself, dont buy it, no one asked.

To op, I have been considering the Xiaomi scooters, can you tell me the advantages of this one, sell it to me!

    • Thankyou Seabass, you are awesome. And same as our scooter, they are awesome too. Compare to the Xiaomi, Mearth is more compact and more efficient, the volume is 40% smaller. And it is the most powerful at its kind.
Instant output can reach 600W, which is very handy while climbing hills.
Most importantly, there is no official Xiaomi store in Australia, people can only buy it internationally or buy it from someone buy from CHINA and pretend to be Xiaomi outlets.

  • OP, why is there an suitable age & height, but no mention of weight, like every other electric scooter I've looked at? It seems a strange way of determining who it's suitable for…

Also, my boyfriend's approaching 50 in a few years & now I'm reticent to buy this for him because he'll soon be too old for it. 😉

    • The Maximum load of the scooter is 110-120kg. The age should be revised to above 16 years old. There shouldn't be an age limit to 60 yrs old.
      Appreciate your feedback!

  • VIC - "If your motorised scooter is classed as a motor vehicle it can only be used on the road if it is registered and the rider has a motorcycle licence or learner permit. But, you can use it on private property."

I have a motorbike license, how does one register a scooter though?

I doubt you'd have any issues with the Police unless you were riding around like a tool..

    • In order to register it, we advised talking to your local road authority in order to have the most accurate information.
And Yes you are right, especially a super compact design like this, it looks like a normal scooter.

But again if your state prohibits the use of electric scooters on the footpath, and only riding on private property then that is what we would recommend.

  • Only a Few Left, the promotion could end before the due date.

wow people really get off on posting how illegal these are,
yet a road bike is much faster and doesn't have to pay road tax and can be rode on the walkway or road.
Try to have some fun in life you're not going to jail for riding an e-scooter at 25km/h cops have better things to do.

Anyway question for OP @Mearth is there going to be any external battery expansion for these to get better range?
Is it basically a rebranded https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/6-5-inch-250W-24V-fol…
    that you are selling?

    • Unfortunately, no external battery available. And NO, they are different. There are some products try to look like a MEARTH, they might look a bit similar, but they won't perform as the same.

  • +1

how to the cops confirm it is over 200w? Do they dyno it? Multimeter? I can't imagine they would able to tell.

    • Um.. Guess I will never find out.
