  • Anyone know anything about malt extract powder (DME)? I've been wanting to pick some up for the kitchen, for adding to cereal and baking, etc.

I'm guessing maybe either the 'Golden Light' or 'Pilsen Light' DME might be suitable?

    • +1

I don't but the guys in G&G are very helpful and only too willing to answer questions.

    • +2

Yep, would definitely go with a light DME for baking - the pilsen will be the lighter (flavourwise) of the two you listed. These extracts are really fine/powderlike.

  • Gift vouchers are a great way to go with these sales - 20% off and use at your convenience (don't think they expire)

    • On their website they say they last 12 months but they wouldn't get away with that I don't think if they were challenged.

    • I'm not seeing a discount being applied in the shopping cart and/or at checkout.. ??

      • I know they used to process all their online orders manually, so you may not see the final/discounted amount until that happens - might be worth calling to confirm though

        • I think the discount is already applied. If you look at the gift cards then a $250 card is only $200.

Their wort kits are usually around $45 as a starting point and many are currently $39.

As LuigiC mentioned though, could be worth a quick call to them.

  • can anyone confirm this applies to the fresh wort? Also that discounts are already applied (i.e. can't see them).

    • I think it is already applied as the usual price for the majority of the fresh wort kits is around $45.

  • Cheers. Might actually get off my but and do a brew or two.

Any recommendations for a novice brewer? I'm thinking the ESB kits might be a good option.

    • I haven't brewed anything….yet. I have all the kit to ferment out but have been time poor (re lazy really but blaming it on being time poor / kids etc) but am looking at getting one of the fresh wort kits.

I have heard Ferg's Oatmeal stout is immense and has won various comps when he has entered it. The fact that it was brewed on the Spiedel kit that G&G have on premise means its likely to be good as long as ferment goes ok.

That said I reckon any of them would probably be good given they kit they brew on and the fact they are a very thriving business.

      • haha, you too hey. My wife gave me the kit about 7yrs ago and I only did the first (and only) brew 6 months ago.

  • I dont see any mention of a sale on their web store. How do I apply the discount? Is there a code to put in?

    • The discount is already applied. Look at the gift vouchers for example, $250 voucher for $200.

It's site wide which is why there is no code.
