not a bargain! can get off ebay much cheaper. also price in title.

    • Would check it is the latest model - Thank you Price added :)

      • +1

What's the difference in the latest model?

        • +1

Latest model colour has been changed to allow you to visually see how far up the chamber your brewing, where as the old dark one doesn't allow this. Second they adjusted the seal slightly to reduce scratching on the inside on the chamber. Hope that helps! More for user experience and longevity.

        • +3

@sbjel1: I have had mine for years, no scratching, its rubber on plastic. Do a google search its not an issue. Maybe you have a Chinese fake.

        • +1

@xioxxio: Luckily not a fake, but it is a very old unit Ive had for many years also. Daily use, coffee grounds seem to in the past get caught in the seal and scratch on the inside. the latest should fix that.

        • +5

@sbjel1: Same. I've had mine for, probably 5 years now, and use it several times a day at work. The chamber is scratched out. Not enough to justify buying a new one though.

        • +1

@SirFlibbled: Agreed! If it still works and the seal isn't having issues, use until it dies! Lasts years

        • @xioxxio:

You were lucky. My old Aero has absolute ton of scratching. Its not the rubber that causes the scratching, its the coffee grounds

        • +2

          @sbjel1:

Interesting, will have to check mine when I get home!

I saw this after I posted, which explains all the different versions:
          https://aeropressinc.com/materials-used-in-theaeropress-coff…

        • +1

@SirFlibbled: if any of you are buying a new one, can I get your old one ? Happy to pay for shipping… :D

        • +2

@bernsy: I think thats the best Bargain here!

    • +4

Cheapest on eBay is $39.95 delivered, a little cheaper but not much. The cheaper ones are much cheaper (<$30) not Aeropress but a similar design, but QC suffers.

Can we get a v60 deal please?

    • +2

      Ill arrange one! Great idea

      • I want a v60 as well please :)

        • +2

Happy to help, for those wanting to try I have set up a coupon on this affordable starter bundle: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/the-complete-pour-…

Simply use "v60oz" for $5 off - valid for 7 days. Great value and has all you need to brew! Just add some fresh coffee

        • +1

          @sbjel1: Buy a ceramic V60 guys.

        • @Penpinch: Plastic has best thermal insulation ie. keeps your coffee "slurry" temperature in the filter higher for longer, which means better extractions and better tasting coffee. If you use a ceramic V60 I would recommend thoroughly preheating the whole thing by pouring hot water all over it prior to brewing.

    • would love to try a v60 so would be interested in that also

        • Lots of messages below saying aeropress is best. Why would anyone try something else?

Perhaps my question is, how does each of coffee brewing methods compare? I like black coffee. I am very simple, I mixed them with hot water n sip though it, no filter.

        • +1

@Bimo: Most people move from AeroPress and wish to improve or adjust the flavour. Ie. Move from black coffee to say lattes and require a espresso maker.

For your coffee profile mentioned, aeropress 110%

I personally have used it 5+ years and not changed yet. Just a great coffee maker!

        • @sbjel1: thanks, I'll give this a shot. Can u recommend a cold brewer?

        • @Bimo:

I'd say most people either move to:
-espresso machine for the bold and strong taste of a proper espresso
          OR
-pour over for brighter and cleaner coffee to enjoy the flavours of the bean

But if you just want black coffee, then aeropress might be best for you!

        • @Bimo:

Cold Brew, via immersion, great value and great coffee: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/hario-mizudashi-co…

If your are after something with slightly more clarity and sweeter coffee: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/bruer-cold-brew-sy…

          Both great units

        • @sbjel1:

So would use this to make a flat white/latte? Just use a milk frother?

Would this produce a better tasting espresso than using sealpods and a nespresso machine?

        • @serpserpserp: Hey!

This makes more of a black coffee.

For espresso I would recommend https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/wacaco-nanopresso/ then to froth the milk there are two options:
          1. Value ok froth: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/bialetti-tuttocrem…
          2. Expensive but exceptional latte quality froth: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/bellman-stovetop-s…

          Hope this helps!

        • +1

          @serpserpserp:

You wouldn't use this for a flat white or latte.

Think of instant coffee, drip coffee or long black.

That is the style that these make.

You would add a dash of milk only.

  • +1

I've got an Aeropress but I'm considering taking this to work and getting something else for the home. What would be the "next level" up from an Aeropress?

    • If you're looking for black coffee, I think its hard to beat the AeroPress!

If your after the next one up and moving into Espresso, which you can add milk or water: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/wacaco-nanopresso/

It has been very popular and makes a great shot.

We have 24/7 Live chat Online for any questions :)

      • Any discounts on the nanopresso rep? Thanks

        • +2

Sure, happy to do something here. Sadly not much margin so cant do much.

But feel free to use "n5" for $5 off, valid one week!

          Enjoy it!

        • @sbjel1:

Can you use this code on top of the $5 off signup code?

        • @serpserpserp: Sadly not sorry, only as it really is so reduced already sorry!

      • Woah. That is a cool product that I will probably get my hands on eventually!

    • +1

Nanopresso is great. The nomad espresso is amazing but is a bit larger. Quite a few options if you do some research.

      • Absolutely agree! super portable. For anyone looking we do have a huge range of espresso makers, (manual) here: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product-category/manual-co…

        • Also what is the man difference between the minipresso GR and the nanopresso apart from size (and price!)

        • Last question, do you sell the nanopresso barista pack bundle? Or are you just out of stock?

        • @serpserpserp: We do have the Nanopresso Barista Kit in stock also here: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/nanopresso-barista… it is a great accessory.

Sadly not in a pack but together they are both at a great price point at the moment! Hope this helps

The MiniPresso doesnt get the same pressure, as you mention is smaller and the nanopresso due to the pressure and easier to clean, makes a better shot!

          Hope that helps

        • @sbjel1:

No problems, just to let you know. https://forevercoffee.com.au has the nanopresso and kits cheaper and do cheaper shipping too. How do they make money?

        • @serpserpserp: Honestly, no clue! But happy to match pricing - simply email [email protected] - Thank you

      • I started with one Nanopresso and now have two.

My two Aeropresses are now for backup.

The only question about the Nanopresso is how long it will last.

The Nanopresso gets a few bar of pressure. The coffee that comes out has a really impressive crema.

        • They have been out for around 18 months now, and very minimal issues so I expect them to last ages! great unit

    • +1

There isn't really a next level from aeropress. If you want a more elaborate setup for home think about buying a better grinder or temp controlled gooseneck kettle or something.

      • Agreed, favourite is by far the AeroPress! We do have a huge range of accessories to ensure a better brew as you mention Tana - Great point

        • I've had an Aeropress for like 7 years and REALLY wanted to like it (I tried many many times), but I could never get a good shot out of it no matter what I tried. I gave up a few years ago and now have a cheap espresso machine and it's SO much better than what I could ever put out with an aeropress

        • @pongky:

It was the same for me to start with, then I googled for Aeropress recipes and got myself freshly roasted beans, and developed my own "recipe". The good thing (or bad thing, depending on your point of view)vabout the Aeropress is the amount of tweaking you can do, all of which affects the flavour - water temp, 'bloom' time, grind coarseness etc.

        • +2

          @pongky:

but I could never get a good shot out of it no matter what I tried

Aeropress doesn't do espresso shots. It makes black coffee.

If you want espresso, then yes, obviously an Aeropress is not going to compare to an espresso machine! ;)

        • @caprimulgus: What he said.

        • @caprimulgus: Agreed!

    • +3

Chemex. I use both. Aero for 1 cup, Chemex for more than 4 cups.

Best tip I can give for Aero, make it upside down. Makes all the difference.

      • +1

        Inverted method, the best! Agreed

        • Gail at Seattle Coffee Gear did a blind test on both method (everything else held equal) and couldn't find a difference. I trust Gail.

        • +2

@Penpinch: Gail is the best hands down!

      • What's the explanation for this? The inverted method that is.

        • When you make it normally, the coffee starts to drain through the filter straight away. When you do it inverted, you can let the coffee brew before plunging.

        • +4

The inverted method is once the beans are ground, you get the granules and carefully glue them back together to create whole beans again. Then chuck them in the aeropress.

    • If it's black coffee you like, then I'd say pour over is worth getting. Popular ones include the Hario v60, the Chemex or the Kalita wave.

    • I have an AeroPress and it does a great job if you need to take it on holiday and don't want to carry anything heavy.
For work, get yourself a ROK if you like espresso done to a similar level as a proper machine.

      https://espressounplugged.com.au/products/rok-espresso-maker

You need a lot better grinder though that what you would use with the AeroPress.

  • any deal on the prismo ?

    • +6

Lets do this for you: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/fellow-prismo-aero…
Use "poz" coupon for $5 off!

      Hope that helps!

      • +1

        Legend!

    • +1

From what I've read, the main benefit of the prismo is as a lid, for immersion brew without having to invert. For the most part, it seems it doesn't really deliver on the promise of more espresso-like drinks, and is actually more fiddly to clean up than just the aeropress by itself.

Personally, I decided to skip the prismo and just use a nanopresso for espresso style drinks, and keep the aeropress for black coffee.

But let us know what you think if you grab one! :)

      • hrmm thanks for the info.
I always inver, and. really not sure if care for espresso enough for the nanopresso , I just like serving something with crema when camping and thourhg the $35 prismo would give it.
If this prismo wont deliver, there's no point however

  • +1

any chance of discounting the bundles with a grinder please?

    • +3

Happy to help with our huge bundle range and a discount here: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product-category/manual-co…

Please use "Bundleoz" for $5 off, in addition to the exisiting discount I hope this helps! Valid for 7 days

      • Same boundle here: https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Latest-AeroPress-Coffee-Maker-Kit-…

$85.45 if use PENNY5 at check out plus free shipping. Will you go even further?

      • Hi there this coupon doesn't seem to work.

I'm trying to use it for the metal filter.

I remembered u had the ten Mile for$5, any chance u can offer the same?

        Thanks!

        • Hey!

          Sorry, Ill check its active!

Sadly no $5 filters at the moment, but we run that every few months so Ill post when we do!

  • +1

Great product and reasonable price so i'll give it a vote. "Was $59" is a bit rich. RRP is $50 isn't it?

Same price here, but $1 cheaper shipping. https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/aeropress-espresso-maker

Can't beat what I paid for mine though. $5 BNIB from an OP Shop.

  • How does this compare to say coffee from a nespresso?

    • +2

This is like water coffee. You don't get proper Crema etc you get from higher pressure machines. This is like filtered coffee American style.

      • +2

A little better than using a plunger basically but it'll never be an espresso. Great for work as we're not allowed a machine as it'll 'ruin the energy rating of the building'…

        • Ugh that sucks. I love coffee so I sacrifice the money for it ;-)

        • +1

Its far above pod and plunger coffee, but below a good coffee machine (that cost $300+). Considering its $40, its hard to go wrong, unless you are willing to spend a decent chunk on a good espresso machine

        • @OnlinePred: I drink like 4 a day so it's a compromise for me. The Aeropress works better too if you have a metal filter. I had a spare one and a new guy had an Aeropress so I donated it to the cause. He agreed the metal filter makes a massive difference.

        • @SirFlibbled: Out of interest, just prefer the taste of the AeroPress with the metal? I personally like the clarity of the paper

        • @SirFlibbled: ah yea fair enough. I drink coffee because I love the taste, I don't need coffee, so only drink it once or twice a day and really savour it. I tried aeropress and v60 or whatever it is. Tastes like tea to me.

        • +1

@sbjel1: Yep tastes much stronger. The paper seems to remove a lot of the flavour for some reason. Although the paper is better for really fine grinds (like Kopi) because the metal doesn't seem to play nice with it.

    • +1

The AeroPress makes a black coffee, so where as your home nespresso makes an espresso shot then you add water or milk to it.

So the best way I could explain in short is that the AeroPress is smooth. The Nespresso coffee inside the pod can be extremely old.

Where as the best way to make an AeroPress is with freshly ground coffee that is no more then two weeks old, this allows for a very smooth, fruity coffee. Sounds extreme flavours I know, but when you get some Ethiopian coffee in the AeroPress it is just so nice!

You can of course add milk if you want also

      hope that helps,

      • The Aerobie AeroPress simply put makes… Espresso anywhere

The AeroPress makes a black coffee

        Err?

    • -1

If you have a separate milk frother, then you can get pretty close to barista latte or flat white.

      • +1

you will enjoy this product, https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/bellman-stovetop-s…

Can make honestly super smooth velvet latte foam, very impressive!

      • Too watery. I have tried.

        • How is it too watery? if you do the 1 cup, it is the same as a shot?

        • @smigglejiggle: So one cup = 30ml espresso shot? Not when I did it.

        • You probably put too much water in lol….

        • @Pacify:

You said "if you do the 1 cup, is it the same as a shot". I was just asking you how that equals 30ml shot?

I followed so many peoples version of a perfect espresso shot, was never able to achieve anything similar to an espresso shot you get at a cafe. It always felt too watery, and not as thick/creamy as a proper espresso.

        • @OnlinePred: The aero press is 250ml at 4 cups. So 1 cup is 62.5ml with just water. If you add one scoop of coffee + water to the 1 cup marker, I think you will be close to 30-40ml of coffee at the end. You can always do 1.5 scoops of coffee to make it stronger.

    • Here is one that actually uses Nespresso Capsules and is ultra portable if that helps: https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/wacaco-nanopresso-…
