  • Any bayonet cap?

    • +3

No. Use an adapter (E27 to B22).

  • thanks was just about to buy one on ebay for 30

    • I just did yesterday…

      • rip brother :(

  • Hmm I have 7 of the old ones at my place….

  • Good to see that they upped the brightness

Found the previous generation a bit dim through an oyster fitting

    • Some of the reviews I've read suggest that the extra brightness has come at the expense off less vibrant colors. Are there any ozbargainers with both who can confirm how noticeable this is?

      • +1

I had both but don't recall seeing any lack of vibrancy in colour when comparing them side by side. Functionally, there wasn't any difference either in terms of responsiveness, smoothness of color flow etc. Of course the newer ones were actually brighter (in accordance with the lumens rating) but this also meant they are brighter at the lowest setting. I did like that on the lowest setting the older ones could go dimmer.

  • Bought one from the previous deal. Happy with it - so just bought two more.

    Thanks, OP. Bought 2.

For anyone that doesn't know, Mi Home is now compatible with both Google Home & Amazon Alexa.

This means you no longer have to change the server to Singapore, via Yeelight.

The server can stay on Mainland China in Mi Home, so your Yeelights will stay compatible with Xiaomi gateway, switches, and sensors.

    • +1

best news for this week! thanks mate will try this tonight! Singapore server has been a bit funny last 2-3 weeks with not wanting to pick up all my lights via Google Home or even directly via the Yeelight app.

    • +1

Great to know it's now compatible with Alexa/GH.

I can't seem to find any info on how to link Alexa to Mi Home though, and couldn't find an option in the Alexa app or the Mi Home apps. Would you know how? I know there's a skill for Mi Home in the Alexa store but it's not available in Australia.

I have a Gateway on the mainland china server, would I add the Yeelight in the Mi Home app, or in the Yeelight app?

      • Yeah, you need the Mi home skill. I am not sure why it is saying not available in Australia as I had no problem with it. Maybe the Amazon app needs updating to the latest version

If you are using the Yeelight app it has to be set to Singapore

If you are using Mi Home it can be set to Mainland China.

Add the device to the Mi Home app. You will then need Alexa to scan for new devices.

        • +1

You're right! I found the skill and it installs, I think I must have found the skill for the wrong region before. I can now control my air purifiers with Alexa, but Alexa can't detect the sockets connected to my Mi home gateway. Guess the gateway isn't compatible yet!

Looking forward to trying out these bulbs.

        • +1

Hi xev, just wondering if I'm missing something.

I added the bulb to Mi Home (mainland china server) and can control it via the app. However when I scan for new devices with Alexa, it can't find anything.

It's odd because Alexa was able to find and pair with the xiaomi air purifers.

Could it be that v2 bulbs aren't compatible with Alexa via Mi Home?

        • @shuffle1: Hey mate, sorry for the delay in responding, I wanted to wait until I had a chance to go into the Post Office and pick mine up.

I have not been able to get the V2 RGB bulbs to be discovered by Alexa. They work with Google Home, but only after I unlinked Mi Home and then re-linked it. I tried the same with the Amazon App but no luck. Looks like we will have to wait for Amazon to get their shit together,

I don't know if they will work with Yeelight, you may have to experiment and let us know.

          Good luck!

        • +1

          @xev:

I reset my bulb (therefore removing it from Mi Home) then added it to the yeelight app, and installed the yeelight skill. Now alexa can find my bulb (had to use the Singapore server).

But when alexa is able to work with the bulb on Mi Home, then I'll add it back. I guess it will take some time.

  • Always ES bulbs.
Is there any smart gu10 with small angle (30°) on special?

  • So i'm abit late to the party with these smart light bulbs. Can someone tell me, does this mean I can turn the lights on and off in different room via my app with these bulbs? or is it just the colour and brightness?

    • On/off, colour, brightness, timer, plenty of other stuff. Worth noting though, if you've turned it off with the switch you can't turn it back on with the app.

      • if i turned off the physical switch, and I turn it back on again, would the lights come on like a dumb bulb? or would I have to turn it on via the app as well?

        • Theres a setting called "Default state" which sets the standard light for when it turns on

        • @Divitini:
and can you group a bunch of these lights to be turned on and off? Thinking of swapping all the downlights in the house.

And are these lights bright enough for main light source or more for ambient?

        • +3

          @Frozensage
I'm so glad someone asked the question I've been wanting to ask but couldn't word properly lol
          Cheers

        • @Frozensage: Yes, you can create groups of lights ('rooms') and control them as one.

You can also configure what happens when you turn the light on from the switch, you can set it to resume previous state or go to a default state. So yeah you can use them as a dumb bulb too.

        • @Frozensage: compare lumens from post to lumen value you have currently :]
I use the old type 800 lumens for a bedroom and usually have it very dim and brighten only when I need light. At max white light I find it is ~mostly bright enough for everything I do

        • well I'm sold on trying one out to see how it works in the living room floor lamp. :)

I guess worst case if it's too bright, I can dim it down when watching movies etc.

  • Mi Home required and if so, how much?

    • It looks to be wifi, so maybe no hub required. Being wifi it likely also draws plenty of power when "off".

    • +1

No. It uses a cloud service to manage the state. The Xiaomi Mi Home app (or your Google Home or other assistant) talks to the Cloud service (Google Home needs the Singapore server to be selected).

      • Not anymore, Google home & Alexa now work with Mi Home. You can use the Mainland China server.

        See my comment above.

        • +1

Oh, I didn't know. If you change your server to China, do you have to resync everything?
Does that mean I can finally use my smart socket, which was only supported by the China server which my Google Home could not be connected to? :)

        • +1

@Make it so: Change the server back to China, unlink Yeelight, then link Mi Home.

My Wifi plug shows up with Google Home (but not Alexa). My Zigbee plugs don't show though.

Which is ok, the WiFI plug is used for my kettle.

'Hey Google, turn the kettle on'

          I'm living the dream!.

        • +2

          @xev: thanks :)
Will set up my dream later :)

        • @Make it so: Good Luck :)

    • you can use the mihome app (free) to control the device or the yeelight app (also free)
If you are paranoid you have have your router block access to the internet for the yeelight and setup your own home automation system such as domoticz/

      • @exidez I'm paranoid, but haven't figured out how to disable access to my yeelights via my router. What sort of setting names should I look out for?

  • Are these legal in Australia, i cannot seem to find any information on standards/certifications.

    • +1

      No, they are not certified.

The certificate provided does not fit one of the recognised Australian certifiers.

      https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/buying-products-and-servi…

Our Yeelight Smart Bulbs (YLDP05YL, YLDP06YL) are certified to Australian electrical standards, certificate number AZ 69022676.

AZ xxxxxxxx is not an Australian recognised mark. Further, the only thing I could find close to an AZ mark was an organisation called Root Certification Authority of the Republic of Azerbaijan (which controls .az websites).

      • Thanks, might wait for a Phillips deal then! :)

      • I bought three and asked the seller that Certificate Number AZ69022676 Authorised marking TUV022687E by TUV Rheinland Australia Pty Ltd

  • Why do I want light to change colour?

    • +3

  • Need to stop shooting up can someone advise me which colour makes it hard to see my veins?

    • +1

      blue der!

    • Dark blue as it blends with your veins so making it harder. But most experts can go by the bulge when the tourniquet is on.

  • $22.58AUD with Macquarie Debit paying in USD

  • +1

Is the white on RGB bulb same brightness as the white in white bulb? i dont care much for color, just bright white bulb, miss out the last white bulb deal.

  • +1

Just click on link. Prices have changed already to USD $22.89/AUD $32.16

Me bad. Never see codeword. Need coffee.

    • +1

  • Thanks rep! appreciate the post

  • How is this different from Xiaomi Philips? this is way brighter (10w)? Thanks.

  • Ordered 3:)

  • Will the 10w 800 lumen version be enough to light up a room of approx 3x3m dimensions? Thank you

    • 3x3m is a small room. It should be fine.

  • I’m sure it’s user error but I can’t seem find the place to enter the code. All I can see is a coupon section. Going through the check out process but not having any luck. Any advise? Thanks.

  • $24.95 for me.

  • Can't apply code any more. "This coupon is not available for limited offer products."
