[Pre-Order] New PS4 500 Million Limited Edition Controller for $49 (With Old PS4 Controller Trade-In) @ EB Games

1050

The link doesn't tell you that trade in is available, but I walked in yesterday, saw it, and went to trade in this morning, and got it.

My 2-year-old controller traded in for $50.95 since I paid $49 for a $99.95 PS4 500 Million Limited Edition Controller, which could cost more in eBay (if you get what I mean).

  • Do you need to be a member to trade in for this price

    • Membership is free

    • No, you don't need to be.

  • +1

Can you trade in both V1 and V2?

    • Unless this changed after I left EB a year ago, there was no difference in preowned SKUs between V1 and V2

    • +1

Any, just the controller, without box or charging cable. He said, "so long as it's not in two pieces".

      • What if it's actually missing a piece?
My launch controller rubber on the joysticks wore off so bought caps for them.

        • Last time I traded didn't even care if they worked.

  • Looks awesome. So is it an actual nation wide deal they have for trading old controller for this?

    • It's printed and stuck on my local EB Games in Fountain Gate. It should be on yours too.

  • +5

Maybe these controllers were old trade ins reconditioned to be limited edition… :S

And the ones getting traded in now, will be re-conditioned limited edition for the 1 Billionth Edition

    • +2

interesting thought process….though i hope we have a new console released before the 1 billionth edition lol

      • Considering its 500 million playstations sold since the launch of the PSOne in 1994, im sure there will be many more to come.

  • -3

do you think you can trade in a broken controller?

My old V1 D pad no longer works and the grips on the joystick are non-existant

    • They don’t test, but they’ll take down your drivers license and phone number. so if someone buys it and returns it as faulty they might call you.

      • You're right, they did take down my drivers license, and EB Games card details.

        • +1

That's only required under law in case someone stole the controller and took it there.

        • So a not working controller is a no? It is in one piece if that's all they care?

        • @wtfnodeal: yep hahaha

        • +1

          @wtfnodeal:
Just tell em it was working last night.

      • +9

If EB Games sell second a controller (without first testing) that later gets returned as faulty, it's on their problem and nothing to do with the person they've purchased it from.

Recording ID details for the individual they purchase or trade a second hand item from is standard procedure, in case it later turns out to be stolen.

        • Agree

      • Unless they test and record results (against serials) in your presence at the time of return, there is nothing they can prove.

They wouldn't go to that effort.

Most likely recording info in case police follow up on stolen items being traded in.

      • They won't know its yours that was traded in and returned as faulty.

    • I had a semi-faulty D pad but they didn't test it. The non existent grips might be a physical defect that they'll notice though.

    • -3

Probably, but it makes you a dick

Laundering hardware is not actually any different to laundering money, other than one is a controller and one is money. Would you launder money?

    "500 Million Limited Edition "
Nice to see honesty in advertising.

    • +12

It's to recognize 500 million sales across the Playstation brand, there's not 500 million available.

The 50,000 limited edition consoles sound out on day 1 of being up for pre-order.

    • +2

500 million is referring to the sales to date of consoles.

there's also a console, which will only have 50,000 units worldwide, the controller I'm not sure how many though.

      https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/08/09/introducing-the-5…

      • That is an impressive sales number for PS consoles.

        • -1

Well yeah but it's all Playstations …

    • Tough crowd, it made me laugh though.

  • i bought all 4 brand new controllers last time on Playstation day - Now i dont have any more to trade :(

  • Does this controller have better grips?

    • +1

No, exactly the same design as any other v2

  • +5

Just to clarify, the only thing special about this controller is the translucent colour?

    • +1

      pretty much…
oh its also most likely a v2 controller version but the changes on that are pretty limited too.

      • +6

Can confirm it is definitely a V2 controller. The V1s aren't produced anymore.

Main difference between V1 and V2 is that you can play using a wired connection, which would reduce latency if that is a concern to you. (The V1 controller still uses wireless connection even when its plugged in to charge.

Other than that, just minor aesthetic changes to the buttons. Some people report better battery life however I think its more a placebo effect or perhaps only a marginal difference due to some minor efficiency perhaps as the actual battery capacity is unchanged in the new model.

        • I think the longer battery life is probably due to people trading in their old controllers that have lost some battery capacity due to use for new ones and seeing the initial difference.

    • +4

I scrolled through this entire post hoping to read that this controller is better because of this or that…but nope, nothing.

Looks like I’ll be keeping the controllers that came with the console…

  • So it's slightly translucent? who cares lol

    • -1

Scalpers. And people who fancy the new design. And collectors. Did you just imply that all of the Playstation consumers are indifferent towards this product? You are wrong.

    • +3

Yes, don't ignore the power of "Limited Edition" being slapped on a mass-produced consumer product - it sits above even "Collectible" where street cred is concerned.

    • Whenever I see people posting custom controllers/console on reddit/fb groups it's always a crystal shell, they're pretty popular. It's got the nostalgia factor from all the crystal versions of consoles that were popular in the late 90s.

    • +1

I guarantee if I know more about you I could find something that most people wouldn't care about either.

  • -1

What makes limited controllers more better than the controller we got already , unless your planning to sell for more

    • Nothing really, but my controller is acting up so the trade in isn't a bad deal.

    • Some people like aesthetics. I know, hard to grasp, isn't it?

  • -4

My son loves everything to be blue // but only just bought PS4 Pro and extra PS4 controller, so not going to be swapping them anytime soon, even if this is Blue AND translucent.

Wonder if they take old PS2/PS3 controllers as trade ins ? LOL

  • -3

SO the V2 has a light bar up the top.. does it blind you a little? LED straight to the face haha.

    • +1

You can change the brightness in controller settings. Tbh it would be nice if you could turn it off.

    • +2

"Look His net worth is about limited!!"

    • +3

That's.. not what it means. Read again.

  • Anyone know if the console PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition will be sold in Australia also? or online only

    • +2

I hope they do trade your normal PS4 for PS4 Pro.

    • +3

      Online only, sold out everywhere.

      • Had a quick read, they're opening up for one more day of pre-orders. Too lazy to check up details. Don't know if its worth it lol

        • hey sorry, where did you read this?

        • I googled a bit and couldn't find any info.

Could you please share the link?

          Thanks

        • @gavt: he could be referring to Amazon UK which did a second day of preorders yesterday or something

But yes, unfortunately looks like it's sold out world wide.

      • I'll wait for the 1 Billion Limited Edition.

      • Sold out online nationwide within the first 3 hours on release date.
I'm one of the lucky ones who got it from JB after missed out on EBGames.

Would love to know how many units of these limited edition PS4 Pro were released in Australia.

  • Huh? So is the trade in value specifically for this controller?

    Called them and it is

  • Decent deal, I suppose. Might be worth trading in my OG with the loose right-stick (which makes it useless for FPS').

  • I've got a sticky options button… Got a reason to get rid of it now, otherwise it works fine, needs some lube or something.

  • -5

Putting my money on these being on shelves for the next 12 months. Special edition consoles have never gained that much value unless it's a decade old and has a Nintendo logo. Pity any fools buying these for the resell.

    • +7

Special edition consoles have never gained that much value

They gained a lot of value after they were suddenly sold out nationwide.

Pity any fools buying these for the resell.

I don't, they are making double their money on eBay re-selling them.

      • Are they selling them though?

I pity the people buying them.

        • +4

Last I saw, there were multiple auctions all with active bids in the ~$1,500 region.

I pity the people buying them.

Not sure where all the unwarranted pity is coming from, not everyone has the same wants/needs/desires as you.

      • Yeah wow, so they are. I suspect though that those prices will drop off in the next couple of weeks.

        • +1

Wouldn't count on it. The 20th Anniversary grey PS4s and their controllers shot up and holding value.

    • Depends on what the special edition is. I have a Forza edition Xbox which as much as I thought looked cool, turns out to not be worth much of a premium at all.

      • Yep. There are plenty of game launch special editions that don't appreciate, just look at the Minecraft Xbox One S. The occasional 'celebration' console like 20th Anniversary or 500 million PS4 will definitely appreciate.

    • go check the 20th anniversary ps4 prices

  • +8

Reckon they'll notice if I cut off the cable from my PS2 remote?

    • +1

You need to stick a Home button sticker to make it legit.

      • Nah, the share button is most important. I mean, how else will you share your sick 360 no-scopes which everybody likes to do always and never do accidentally.

        • Shows em some titties. Home and Share button stickers aren't required then.

  • This is great. Thanks. My old controller works fine except for GTA V. The R2 button doesnt trigger every time so you dont shoot consistently. Every other game it works.

  • Are these available now? Or says preorder in the link

    • It’s a preorder.

  • what special about this controller?

    • nothing

just a blue translucent top section

  • +1

The number of people laundering faulty hardware is disgusting. Hope karma gets you.

    • -1

      EB allow it

    • -1

Hope you aren't voting for Liberal or Labour who allow banks to launder millions of dollars whilst guaranteeing they will be bailed out if they ever need to be.

That is actually disgusting not the petty shit you're pointing out.

    • AFAIK, EB Games claims that any pre-owned hardware is repaired and cleaned. If it isn't, that's entirely on them. Any prospective buyer of a pre-owned controller has the right to return it for a full refund if it doesn't work anyway.

    • Concerning is the word you should have used, but what's more concerning is how black and white you think the world is.

    • +2

Dunno why people neg you for your comment.
Your point is totally spot on.
This is the main reason why we all getting crappy preowned console conditions (~check out the thread in Wii U preowned console).
      We reap what we sow.

      • How is it 'spot on'? You truly think EB games are going to accept faulty hardware as a trade in?

        • Quite probably if they're treating it as a loss-leader.

        • They do accept it.

    • +3

Yeah it's really horrible to read. Bringing in broken stuff (that you know is broken) and passing it off as working is a shitty move for shitty people.

  • +1

OP, you should probably state in the title that it is only available as a preorder.

  • +1

i would rather buy a third controller for $49 when they are back on offer. Gamescom is coming, so is epic gaming month, so there would be deals soon.

  • I only shop at EB games if in the end i get to screw them (i.e. make more money selling a collectable item in the future).
    Horrible shop
