[2011] Charisma House of Beauty Perth bad experience with Scoopon

MOD: this was an old review of the business, and according to the owner there has not been any bad review since.

I bought 3 scoopons for Charisma House of Beauty in Stirling (WA) deal listed 1hr massage 1hr facial, manicure and pedicure. I went on their website and added up the value of all of these services (this was for a full manicure and pedicure) and it came to the $359 they were claiming. I even phoned prior to check how long the treatments take and they told me the mani and pedi were 45 min each. However on redemption my mum got a very average massage, a 5 min 'facial' and nail polish applied to fingers and toes whilst laying on the table! No filing or anything and they painted over old polish! Same thing happened when mother in law went. They should not be including the price of a full manicure and pedicure in the 'value' of the deal, then only do a 2 min rush job because they have clearly sold more vouchers than they can honor. I have complained about this and they waited a week to respond and didn't bother to address any of my complaints. When i demanded an explanation re their pricing, they changed the prices on their website to something completely different!

Terrible customer service. Even during mums massage she had to listen to staff whingeing about all the scoopon customers and how they don't have time to finish the treatments. I have emailed scoopon re this and awaiting a reply

  • Firstly you should have taken a screenshot of their website with all the prices. Secondly if you paid via cc go for a chargeback. This will male scoopon get back to you much much sooner.

With Regarding to the above comments, I also received a
scoopon voucher for both myself and my mother for charisma
Stirling and If I am honest we had a truly fantastic treatment
during our time there. The therapist couldn't do enough
for us to keep us relaxed and at ease. I too looked up the pricelist
on the internet and sorry if I am rude to the above comment but
do not know what list you were looking at as it is the exact replica of
the one I took from the salon.

Furthermore $59 is a complete bargin, clearly which people have been looking for with these scoopons and you also get a further $50 voucher to spend at your lesiure which is valid for a full year. That is generosity at its best.

I have spoken to many friends regarding this and we agree that no facial last 5 mins as there is alot of elements to it and not just the massage. Alsoit does not state that it is a deluxe manicure and pedicure which is on the pricelist.

Once again I would like to say that both myself and my mother had a fantastic experience and I have no hesitation to recommend this salon to anyone interested. If still in doubt there is many positive reviews online to back up my comment…..

haha funny u sound like one of them. Signed up on the 17th Feb and first thing u do is search this thread and post a good review. Amazing

      • +2

Couldn't agree more Rack, seems dodgy to me.

      • +3

Yes, when I read this comment, I have a funny feeling about it being not a real customer.

      • i smell a rat hmm

  • Naas
That's great u enjoyed it. You obviously got the full treatment you should have. I agree a facial does not last 5 mins but that is what she got which is my complaint!! As I also said, the online prices have changed since I sen my email, they were originally different when the Scoopon was for sale and they only had one type of pedicure on theirvwebsite- the value of which corresponded to the full pedicure if you added everything else up. Racks comment is right I should have taken a screen shot instead of just copying it down

I Agree $59 is a bargain but not if you aren't given the full treatments!

Oh and neither of us were given the $50 voucher either.

  • Rack I just saw your comment and I thought exactly the same thing! I did tell them in my email there was bad reviews online (mine!) so I'm not surprised.
Such a shame they couldn't just apologize and refund me and be done with it. I never complain about bad service but this was just so blatant I don't want to let it go

  • Just a comment for both of you above, I am not "one of them" as you both suggested. For racks comment if you did not notice that jwilson only joined the previous day and I don't see where theres a problem with me joining when I need to give my opinion on this matter especially since my treatment was fine on this day. Its called the right to freedom of speech, hence yours and the above comments.

Jwilson regarding the $50 voucher I was told it was credited to my acc so i'd say yours was the same. All the same, things like this happen and believe me it has happened to me on more that one occasion but would you not of thought of expressing your disatisfaction on the day????

  • +2

The vouchers were gifts used by mother and mother in laW and both of them thought that what they received on the day wasn't right but didn't want to complain as they weren't 100% sure. They called me to check what the voucher was meant to include when they got home which is when I contacted the salon if you must know. Which doesn't change the fact they received bad service and were ripped off

  • So you can never tell what to expect with these small places and how they will react to the overwhelming amount of new customers. Some will be appreciative for the business, others that do not have as much financial investment in the business will complain that they have to work a lot more then they are used to.

A friend and I got vouchers for a massage place. Pretty small business, with only two masseurs. We went in at the same time: the lady who did mine was excellent, calming and professional- the guy who did my friend apparently complained most of the time (while doing the massage) about all the customers coming in with the vouchers and how he hardly gets a break, and how much money they are losing! It's obvious which one of us enjoyed it more. Bad thing is she got additional vouchers for her family!

Everyone's experiences are different, even within the same place. Let us know what response you get from Scoopon. I am curious how they handle it.

  • Hi Jwilson,

I've only just come across your post now, so I apologise for the delay - may I ask if you have contacted Scoopon via [email protected] ?

If not, we kindly direct you to contact our Support Team who will be happy to assist you further with your concerns.

If you have already done so, can you please advise your ticket ID, so that we can have our Support Team get back to you with a resolution as quickly as possible.

  • Yes I have contacted Scoopon and I must say that so far they have been quite good. I received a response the following day asking for further info which I supplied immediately. I didn't get a response for a week after which I followed up again and they replied the following day. So I guess you just have to keep chasing them up if you want to get anywhere. They have emailed me promising a refund within 5 days. This was 2 days ago, haven't recieved it yet but keeping an eye out.

  • I bought the more recent microderm scoopon for Charisma and have used one of the two microderm services. The microderm service was adequate but the petit pedicure was a joke. No filing, no cuticle work. I had to describe the colour I wanted as it was already dark when she asked. There were only about five colours available. Two thin coats that literally wore off the tip of my nail within hours and the other part of my nail in a couple of days. Not chipped, just wore off like a texta would wear off in places. I will be going again, but really got a huge inquiry into the products I use, etc and I could tell that a high pressure sales talk was in the works. Luckily the employee did not meet me in reception as she said she would so I just have the one appointment to go to get the desired service (microderm) and be done with it.

Why don't these salons realise that when they give crap service or underperform, you will NEVER EVER go there again. And you will tell your friends about it. No way would I pay to get anything done at normal prices at Charisma as I would be concerned about getting any value at all.

Skin Estetica in Claremont is even worse.

  • I have been back for my microderm and declined the "petit" manicure or pedicure. This was at Whitfords. Not as much sales pressure this time.

I did find out that they reuse their microderm heads for 2 or 3 clients, putting it in solution between uses. If you are a microderm afficinado, you may wish to request a new head. I prefer the sanblasting method.

I purchased the micro also through scoopon and had to wait 7 months to get an appointment and it was not an enjoyable experience. I walked out with half the face mask still on my face…. That should have been a warning sign!!! I then purchased the tattoo scoop on voucher and was told to email them as they weren't taking bookings in person or over phone. I waited three weeks but heard nothing so went into the salon and was told the receptionist will contact me, didn't ask my name or details. Didn't hear anything so went back to salon and was told again the receptionist would contact me, again wasn't asked any of my details. Finally, I was at work a week later and a couple of ladies came in to my shop and said they had their tattooing done at charisma. I couldn't believe my ears as I was yet to hear back to even book in. I once again went to the salon only to be told the receptionist had deleted a bunch of emails…how convenient. No apologies!!! Now I have to wait until October to get an appointment! Absolutely unprofessional and the standard of the treatments is embarrassing! Buyer beware!!!

I have had a recent bad experience with Charisma in Whitfords. Booked 2 x vouchers for the tattooing. It was a few weeks wait so I decided to test them out one weekend and pamper myself with a manicure, pedicure and eyelash tint. I was horrified with everything about the salon!

Firstly, they did my eyelash tint. A 16 year old who had only been working for 2 weeks. I ended up with it all in my eye and I'm sitting there almost crying in pain it was stinging so much. Then for my manicure and pedicure, lying down! Most uncomfortable feeling in the world having to hold my head up as the bed was at a horrible angle. I had another 16 year old doing this, who proceeded to spend the whole time telling me about her weekend antics, I do not care about your drinking escapades. I am 30 and well over that. No cuticle work, she just filed my nails, gave me a bit of a massage and painted my nails. Which were shocking!

The pedicure was equally shocking. I hadn't had a pedicure for a very long time, ordered the deluxe, and same again. I walked out with still very bad toes and a horrible paint job.

So I wasn't looking forward to my tattooing.

Did this last weekend. I got as far as lying on the bed before walking out and saying I had second thoughts. The consultant was AWFUL. Extremely rude, I got there 2 minutes late and was told "if you had of gotten here any later we wouldn't have done it" - no hello lovely to see you….. So off to a bad start. She got me to fill out the form, I was clearly anxious about the treatment, she didn't say anything to try and ease my panic, just was very po faced and stern. I asked a few questions and got a snappy response - clearly she was annoyed that I was wasting her prescious time.

I walked out of the clinic saying I had second thoughts and didn't want to go through with it - as I was walking out she was at the counter laughing with one of the 16 year olds that did my nails a few weeks early. Really?

Is that how you treat your customers who PAID for a level of service. I'm terribly disappointed. And now I'm stuck with 2 vouchers that I paid for and will never use. What a waste of money and time.

      Thanks for your post.

Have you contacted our Support Team via [email protected] ?

What you have described here is definitely not the sort of experience Scoopon wishes our Members to have while using their Scoopons. If you would like to email [email protected] with your concerns, our Support Team would be more than happy to assist you.

I too have been ripped off by Charisma beauty. I rang up to book my scoopon deal and was told they are booked out and I wont get an appointment before it expires. I asked for a refund because it's not my fault they are booked out and they said no. We should not support businesses that are only interested in ripping people off. They did not offer to book me an appointment when they were available and I was told I should take it up with scoopon.

    • Sounds like yet another case where the customer who has parted with his hard earned money faces problems and frustration on both ends.

Who did you ask for a refund and why didn't they give it to you if you couldn't make a booking? Also, have you filed a complaint with Consumer Protection?

May I vent my anger at Charisma Beauty and this silly scoopon deal that I got sucked into.
I also purchased a scoopon at Charisma for IPL and they cannot book my first appointment until mid Jan 2012 and this scoopon expires mid March 2012. I have tried to book other appointments after my consultation but they wont let me book any more until they have seen me, with approx 4 week waitlist after that!!! Do they think I'm stupid!!
I smell a rat, they are happy to take my money but not provide the service promised.
I have demanded my money back as I know I can't redeem this scoopon.
      Buyers beware

      • Let us know how your refund request goes.

    Hi there,

I'm a journalist looking into an apparent spike in dissatisfaction with group-buy deals. If anyone is interested in speaking with me about their experience using these kind of group-buy deals, shoot me an email on rebecca.trigger at wanews.com.au

    • +1

I would recommend that you start your own thread or start private messaging people from this forum. I imagine you'll have plenty of takers.

    • +2

Would be a good idea to buy some deals yourself. I suggest the 'beauty packages - with massage and facial', nothing like real experience :)

      • +2

thats a great suggestion, I prefer reading stories from reporters who have done some background investigations and are not just using heresay to plump up an article (which is lazy imho)

I am not saying the request is btw, just stating my opinion

and then after a crappy experience you could try contacting their "customer service" see if you get a canned response or actually get some help

It might be interesting to see the group sites compared against each other ;)

  • I to have purchased a 2hr package I have called many times for a booking the first time in September . The receptionist told me I had left it to late to book in and she would put me on the cancelation list. This is absurd as it was September and it expires on November 23. I called again in October to see if there were any cancellations. The receptionist told me to try their other salon. I did but the same thing happened. I called again at the beginning of November. The receptionist told me I should of called earlier!!!
This is so unprofessional ! They have clearly sold to many scoopons they can't provide the service!
The journalist should be looking in to this!!! Never mind experiencing the product! Which by the consistant complaints it's obviously run very badly! Greedy owners looking for a quick dollar!
To the journalist please look in to this! I'm contacting Today Tonight!!!

    • Contact scoopon for a refund. Post your ticket number here. Take solice in the fact that apparently no one was happy with the service they received here. Hopefully you will get a refund.

  • This was my experience, part of the email I sent to scoopon no response yet but its only been 3 days.

I bought a scoopon to use with Charisma Beauty. I booked an appointment for November in approx Jan, Feb this year at the Whitfords store, the wait time was insane. However I was happy to deal with that. I had a phone call on the day of my appointment saying someone had called in sick, and that I would need to re-schedule. They wanted to split it into two because it would be more convenient for them, so I had an appointment booked for my facial and nails a week later, on the day of my engagement party, and the massage a week later, meaning I would need to make two trips. The lady on the phone at Charisma told me to make sure I was there early, so I arrived for my appointment on Saturday 30 mins early at the shopping centre, and walked into the salon 10 mins early. To summarise I was told that they had had a change of management and my scoopon was no longer valid at their store, I would have to call up the store in Stirling. Understandably I was quite upset, it being an important day for me, and having gone out of my way to accommodate them. So I rang the Stirling store, and the girl on the phone was less than understanding, cutting me off mid sentence and telling me the assistant manager would call me back. I didnt receive a return phone call that day. On the phone to this girl, I admit that I probably sounded upset, however I just tried to tell the girl all the trouble I had gone to and that I wanted a refund, however she didnt hear me out and I think this is poor customer service for someone who has already been jerked around. I have had a return phone call today from the Stirling store and they just proceeded to tell me that they booked me in for the whole lot this thursday, not asking me what was convenient as this is a totally differant location and not asking about the situation I had been through at all, let alone an apology. I was busy so I terminated the phone call and have not yet called them back.

I would like a refund, this business has been nothing but difficult and rude. The appointment they have booked me is outside the expiry date of the scoopon anyway, its not convenient for me and I do not want to use this businesses services at all after how I have been treated. I went to great lengths to make it convenient for them, however im pretty sure that im supposed to be the customer, so they should have been trying to accommodate me which at that they failed dismally.

I am very upset over this whole experience, it starts to put you off using things such as scoopons when you get treated like a second rate citizen, which is sad as I have used vouchers before and have found places that I have been more than happy to use again, but more often than not the places you use vouchers with dont treat you the same as other customers. This has just been a stand out company for their mistreatement of a customer.

    END EMAIL

Rang the store today to cancel the appt they booked for me, told them i didnt want to use their services after the bad service I had received, the girl goes 'sorry for that' and that was the end of it. RUDE DONT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!

    • +1

That is awful. All that stress on the day of your engagement party!!
I hate hearing about such bad experiences but am thankful I stumbled accross ozbargain as I have cut back BIG TIME on the group deals I have purchased.
Keep us updated on the reply you get from scoopon :)
Even though you had all that stress hopefully you can get a refund!!

    • I hope you get a refund. Charisma is the pits.

You can take solace in the fact that it would most likely have been an absolute crap mnicure anyway.

  • +1

Thanks guys, I hope I get a refund too. I had no luck getting a refund earlier in the year from scoopon when I bought a photobookshop voucher. I made up a photobook for my friends engagement party and when I tried to upload it, it wouldnt work. So I rang them and they said to try something else, cant remember what it was, it didnt work so when i tried to ring them back they had removed their contact number from their website. Sent them a few emails - no response. So I had to run around trying to find a new present last minute. Me and engagements, just unlucky huh haha. Its putting me off buying scoopons I tell you, its just wasting my money when scoopon wont support you when you receive horrible service.

I recently got a cancellation call from the stirling salon after the run around I really couldn't be bothered going. Anyways I did! Now i feel really bad as the therapist was lovely and really good! Even though I went in so angry it was her that made the treatment. The massage was lovely she was really laid back and relax.
I tried to tell her my story as I was still annoyed but I realised projecting my anger on to her would have only made her anxious and uncomfortable then she would have had to massage me! Imagine that! I realised it wasn't her fault, as she said to me "I only do the treatments all I can do is apologise".
As I sat in the reception area I could hear all the calls mostly scoopon's complaining. I felt so sorry for the poor staff! It is not their fault it obviously comes down to bad management selling to many scoopons.
The abuse that I heard the poor girls behind the reception take was horrific ! People remember these poor girls just take the phone calls. Don't abuse them all they can do is take your name and number and pass on the message to their manager. Who obvisously sold to many then left her staff to deal with it! I seen one girl shaking when she got off the phone I could actually hear the person on the other end swearing at her. poor thing all she could say was "All i can do is take your name and number and get the manager to call back" then she had to do a treatment shaken up! No wonder the clients say its awful! Its a visous cycle. This is when I felt so guilty as I to had screamed down the phone at them. I apologised to the therapist for it as I realised she probably gets paid minimum wage has to work like a trooper massaging all day long for 59buck scoopons in which SCOOPON take half the money! Luckily I got a really good experienced and knowledgeable therapist that made all the difference. At classy 456! Gooodness I can't blame the girl for taken the day off she's probably a nervous wreak with all the stress! Not sure if they'll have any staff left!
My opinion is….Good/Great treatment! Bad Management!

    • +1

Yes, that's usually the case. The employees are usually the innocent ones, they provide service based on the book. It's the management who posted up the vouchers cannot predict the outcome for over selling! They are greedy bastards who just care about the money and not the experience of the customer nor their own staffs emotions!

Down with voucher sites who lures these techniques on small companies!

    • "I apologised to the therapist for it as I realised she probably gets paid minimum wage has to work like a trooper massaging all day long for 59buck scoopons in which SCOOPON take half the money!"

That is the part which is most disgusting to me. Seeing as Scoopon take such a big cut, people should be able to count on them providing a high level of customer service.

But then again, Scoopon don't even advertise a phone number.

    • you could always give her a $10 tip? And cheer her up a little? :)

  • Hi, I have been calling Charisma Beauty Hillarys and get a message saying This number is temporarily out of order. It would take an hour for me to drive there to see if the salon is still doing business, does anyone have any info before I get in touch with scoopon. I have also been calling the Stirling salon to see if they know of a change of number or anything but their machine says they are with clients which I think is normal depending on the treatment the clients are getting. Any info would be appreciated.

  • Update: Just found out the Hillarys salon is closed, will keep trying stirling. Anyone still have a price list.

    • Thanks for the update. They offered a scoopon for tatts yesterday.

  • I have now been in touch with the stirling salon and they will honour the scoopon. I have also been having trouble getting through to Beauty on Milligan, the phone has been ringing out for the past few days but hopefully by tomorrow I will know if they are still in business.

  • I've also had difficulties with this company in relation to Scoopon vouchers. I found the staff to be exceptionally rude and unhelful. I will also be contacting Scoopon with regards to my dilemma. NEVER AGAIN.

  • I wish I had found these comments before buying the Scoopon! I recently purchased a scoop on for cosmetic tattooing at Charisma in Stirling. Terrible experience I will not be repeating! I appreciate I was having a tattoo but the therapist did nothing to make the experience a nice one. I was treated like a naughty child from start to finish. The 1st time I thought she was having a bad day but the second time she was just as bad if not worse. If these companies don't want the business why do they bother offering the Scoopons. I must admit I have no complaints about the finished result but the attitude of the therapist left a lot to be desired. I was told there was no point having brown as it faded to pink and everyone who got grey or charcoal came back and asked for jet black! So jet black it was! I was not told in advance that after the tattooing I could not wear any make up at all or get the area wet for 10 days!! 10 days with no make up and let back eyeliner is not a pretty sight. If I had known I would have had my eyelashes tinted beforehand so it didn't look so frightening. When I asked how long it would take I was greeted with "about 10 mins but that depends if you stay still or not" and then "well this isn't going to work is it" when I jumped when she first started. She's millimetres away from my eye with a needle for christ sake!

  • Charisma Stirling is bad experience, after taking up the Ouffer and reading fine print, I booked, only to find on my first visit you have to sign a waiver form for cancer or possible cancer. I voiced my concern as to "possible" and was told not to worry and sign. On returning home, I realise it was NOT in the fine print, and I'd been bluffed into the fact it did not matter nor had I been given the option of a refund. Why sign a waiver if possible cancer did not matter.

I would not have booked had I known about the possible "cancer waiver".
Charisma Stirling WA will not provide a refund or alternative service that does not involve the " cancer waiver"
Why bluff a client into signing a waiver before providing a service, especially when it is not mentioned or acknowledged at the time when taking up the offer. You only find out when you visit the salon and have already paid for it …
Never again, if it not in the fine print how can you make an informed decision

  • Yes, it us annoying. I went to inner beauty in survival WA and their conditions say I allow them to take and jeep photos.

Another one being spruiked on these sites is also in subiaco. It is called different names, but laser is one if them. All of their rooms have cameras. Even when you are given a massage. You are told to go to the toilet and change into a robe. Then come back abd try to shield yourself from the camera. I realised when I git up that there is a mirror there that the camera points towards. No amount if shielding is going to prevent you from being recorded naked, as far as I can tell.

I'd think this would be illegal.

  • Has anyone been to the Charisma House of Beauty recently? They are now selling vouchers for Laser Liposuction on Deals.com.au, I guess them changing from Scoopon to Deals is one warning bell, and Laser Liposuction could be terribly risky if they can't even give a mani or pedi properly, if previous comments are anything to go by??
