  • If this is any indication of the new iPhone pricing for plans, the iPhone X 100 and 200GB plans look like the ones to go for

    • What do people use use 200GB for?

      • +3

        No internet at home

  • +1

Do the $125 plan (has $20 off atm)

    so $105 - 20% on top = $84+7 for the handset

100GB Unlimited calls and text here and overseas
    4gb roaming data

$91 if Porting from another carrier, its epic.

    • +2

Thanks farque (nice name lol) .. so I’ll update header to $91 for 100gb, could only see a $132 plan on the Optus page for 100gb came to $108

      • No probs, the $132 has an additional $20 off currently, weird its not showing.

        • are you sure called another HN store they said its $132 also

        • @RogueWolf:

Went to another outlet that knew nothing about it - snotty-nosed pimply kid working there said it is up to each franchisee???

        • @hardya: defnately can get the 20% off the note 9.. should have asked for a manager

        • +1

@RogueWolf: 10000% just below the $132 it states "$20 off plan fees for 24 mths"

        • @farque: nice pick up now I see it

        • @farque: whats the odds of getting rejected if I port out of optus & port back in? thinking of giving it a try on the iphone x.. worst case just go back on a sim plan

        • @RogueWolf:
Need to know too. Ported to belong 2 days ago and my optus bill got finalized immediately.

  • Does it work for existing customers but adding a new service to Optus

    • Has to be a number porting to optus from another carrier

      • What about porting from Optus MVNO like Amaysim. Does that count ?

        • +1

Yep - The only company excluded is Virgin.

        • @farque: Any reason why they excluded virgin? i have a sim only plan that i wanted to recontract to optus on this deal. Any way i can bypass this?

        • @Krad3r: Theres a few success stories in the comments…

  • +1

Reckon this deal lasts long enough to port out then in again? Anyone done that successfully before?

    • +1

Don't port out and port in as it is being monitored and you may get turned away

      • If turned away just rub Harvey's nose in the next ACCC ruling

  • +2

I don't see paying 91 bucks each month for 24 months is good. Twenty-four.
It's like being in jail. Tortured forever.

    • sell the phone for minimum $1500 you got a 100gb sim for $28.50

      • +2

With unlim international calls + roaming + 4gb roaming data

      • Too optimistic 1500,as many will sell and then eBay fees etc.

But 100gb for 28.50 sounds okay I can probably use it to replace my home ADSL with it seriously. Currently paying tpg $60 per month that would be huge saving

        • -3

If you wait few weeks until the promo ends the 512GB goes up to $1799 , wait for free ebay listing no fees or sell on gumtree, fb store

        • @RogueWolf:

Phones only ever get cheaper, not more expensive. I will sell it asap when you receive it. It'll only get cheaper with ebay discounts and new iPhones coming out etc.

        • @RogueWolf: if I wait a few week the new iPhone will be released and note 9 will
          Likely be under 1K grey.

        • @Gavman: Note 9 under 1k lmao it just got released yesterday that would be the fastest price drop in history

        • +1

@ko0l: firstly I’m not signing up, the plan price is great if anyone actually wants that phone, selling to use the plan as a sim is just an idea, second as the phone only just being released I see no problem reselling for $1500 when the rrp goes back up to $1800, worst case maybe $1400, your thinking as a OzBargainer you & I wouldn’t pay $1500 but plenty that want that phone over coming weeks & aren’t savvy OzBargainers will look at $1500 as a good buy rather then paying $1700/1800

      • Don't see how you can get $1.5k minimum when you can buy it for that price straight from shops. More likely around 1.4k to 1.45k plus selling fees.

        • 1.4k to 1.45k plus selling fees.

          You mean less not plus

  • My wife left Optus for Vodafone a little over a month ago. Would she be eligible for this deal?

    • Yes

      • Thanks for that. BTW does anyone know if Optus is selling the single SIM or the Hybrid (dual) as Samsung seems to only offer the Hybrid on their website, which would be my preference.

        • I just chatted Optus they say it's the single SIM.

    • divorced?

  • Hi Farque,

Can you confirm whether this is "to own" or "a lease"?
Also, are you 100% sure one can double dip the 20% discount? The Optus site suggests that the 20% off cannot be combined with any other discount..

    Thanks.

    • 100% can use with the $20 off offer. The pricing above is to Own.

      • Thanks.

      • Hi! Who can I escalate, as I was refused thd deal in your mrlbourne CBD QV branch.

Chinese sales guy refused outright. Tol me Can’t do both promotions. Told him, other branches has sold similar deals. But he still refused.

Can this stack with student discount as well?

  • Does anyone know when this deal end? Quite attractive.
I don’t think it is a phone with dual sim, is it?

  • Hi farque,
Is it also available for the regional customer offer? Its 105 for 145 dollor sim and phone. So, can I get 20 percent off 105 dollors too?
    Thanks

  • The deal is real ($20 off + 20% off) but don't think you can do on the Note 9.
I read the above post this morning got the S9+ at the Alexandria store (Ask for Koray really good guy and helped a lot)
Store Address: 1/84 O'Riordan St, Alexandria NSW 2015

The plan is $130 as advertised by Optus
Optus has a promo that takes $20 bux off = $110
Harvey Norman has a special deal with Optus and takes another 20% off on top making it $88
Harvey's are not allowed to advertise the 20% due to some marketing agreement with Optus.

Couldn't get the Note 9 cause the store won't get the ph till 24th Aug
The 20% discount promo expires 20th Aug.

    • Which s9+ plan did you get ? :)

    • Hi Mate,
I just got home from HN Taren Point and they did the deal on the note 9.
      $20 off plan and 20% porting from telstra to optus. $84 + $7 (for note 9) $91 a month/ 24months.

  • +2

mmm….so has anyone managed to get the deal on the note 9 in a sydney store? how does it work since it is not in stock? do they give you a sim and port your straightaway and give the note 9 when it arrives? Do you get a contract actually saying your monthly is $84 + $7 (on the 105gb plan)…? thanks…

    • yeah HN Taren Point. They (optus) post you the phone on Friday. They also post the sim and port will happen once you receive the phone. Yes I received a piece of paper saying $84+7

  • I need some advice. I Will port my optus number to tel$ra or Voda prepaid, then will port it back to optus.

How many days I should "stay" with tel$ra/voda before port back?

  • Can anyone confirm that they've been able to get this deal in store? Is the phone delivered to the store on launch day and you pick it up?

    • +3

I got this note 9 deal from a Melbourne harvey norman store. Phone will be delivered to my address.
And can confirm it is indeed a $125 plan, then $20 off, then 20%off for the plan. And it comes down to $84 plan + $7 phone = total $91.
The guy at harvey Norman was not sure if both discount can be stacked. But the optus operator on phone confirmed this deal can be processed.

      • ok great thanks. I'm planning on checking out the Nunawading store.
Web chat with optus confirmed best Optus online price was $100.80 after student discount. $132-20 = $112 - 10% = $100.80/month to own the phone 105gb data/month

        • yeah go check out the Nunawading store. i did mine there today, all worked out fine.
          you should be fine.
i havent tried the student discount via web chat yet. Might give it a go on monday.
let me know how it goes if you can get that extra student 10% discount or not.

        • @adamchan:
So we're good for the Nunawading store? .. I don't feel like wasting my time with a store who is going to make life difficult so probably easier to just go to one who has had luck at

Do you recall who you spoke to so I can get the offer with them?
Just curious as well, do you get cut over to Optus straight away after signing up/porting or does the porting occur when the phone is delivered?

        • +2

          @lachlanww:
The guy's name is Adinar. An Indian guy.
About the porting, i asked the same question too.
He told me, my number wont be ported until i received the phone and sim.
I actually would like someone to clarify that.
I believe what happen is, when you activate the new sim, that's when your number gets ported.
Anyway, my current plan cycle will end before i receive the new phone. So i am planning to go to optus next week to get it ported before new phone arrives…..Dont wanna end up paying extra cycle

        • @adamchan:
          Thanks a lot friend!
          Makes sense to me

        • +1

@adamchan: Yeh, for me it was different, the guy who did mine in HN told me that the service will be ported straight away (well in 15-20min) and that I could start using the new service. He even gave me a new optus sim card to take with me when my telstra one stopped working. However its been more than a day now. So do you reckon I gotta activate the new sim somehow?

        • +2

          @Spazmos:
yeah, i think once you activate the new sim, your numbers should be ported.
I think i will give optus a call tomorrow to find out more details about this.

        • +2

@Spazmos: I believe Optus will send you a new sim card along with note 9. The guy who did mine first gave me a new sim card and told me the same thing. But he called Optus and got told new sim card would come with the phone.

        • @adamchan:
I actually don’t want to port straight away since I’m still paying out the last two months with Vodafone. I wonder if there’s and option not to activate immediately and just delay the Optus billing as well. Will obviously port immediately if Optus are going to charge anyway.

        • @julz:
I spoke to optus both instore and online, your number will only be ported when your phone arrive. And technically it is when your order status switched to complete. It has nothing to do with the SIM. Furthermore I had asked whether the contract can be started earlier or postponing it. Earlier is no,the phone needs to be available first. But postponing is fine, you can postpone whatever date you like. So, in your case you should be fine. Now I'm trying to figure out how I should deal with mine. Thinking for switching to prepaid for a week. May be the best scenario for my case.

        • @adamchan: can anyone confirm if 'Adinar' is still working at HN nunawading?
Called up earlier but the person i spoke to didnt know anyone by that name.
Can anyone confirm if they are still able to get the deal?
Would it also work if i purchased a prepaid from another carrier and ported the number over?

        • @adamchan:
My porting is already done. Happened probably within 5 mins and I was still at the store. They said the only way to delay would be to screw up the data so the verification would fail.

        • @rrlrichard:
I got signed up yesterday at the Richmond store. Deal is still on

        • +1

@rrlrichard: 100% any harveys/domayne/joyce mayne can still offer this deal

        • @farque: thanks for the update! I'll be heading down tonight to do my sign up.

        • @julz: thanks for the reply too! Richmonds a bit far out from me but if i somehow cant i'll consider heading out that way

  • +1

This definitely works - Fyshwick store in Canberra. The Optus website doesn’t show the $20 discount on the $125 plan when you select the note 9 so the fella at HN didn’t think it would work but when we called Optus they were well aware of it. The wait time was horrendous, most likely because of the double discount.

Signed up for my wife and I. The Harvey Norman Rep was so impressed with the deal he’s thinking about signing up also.

    • Wait time was like 30 minutes for me as well. Anyways it was worth the wait, it’s an awesome deal IMHO

    • Can you tell me if they were doing this deal on the other samsung phones too please? Like s9+ or something?

      • Yep, the 125gb plan is on optus' website for $20 off and extra 5gb data - so 105gb total per month. Then Harvey Norman is having a special to take further 20% off if porting from another provider. Doesnt matter which phone you get however the best value is to get a really pricey phone as they're quite cheap on the $125 plan. Also, the note 9 512gb is being sold for the same price as the 128gb so its a triple deal at the moment.

        • There are only 2 plans with $20 off in the Optus site. The $125 plan is a lease plan and the $132 plan is a "own a phone plan". Please see link below

          https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/samsung/galaxy-n…

        • +1

          @Sathish9:

Yep you're right. So I'm on the $132 plan. $125 for the plan and $7 for the handset.

So to get to the $91 per month:

          $125 less $20 optus discount
          =$105
$105 less 20% discount from harvey norman for porting in.
          =$84
$84 and add back the $7 handset payment and you're at $91 per month for 512gb note 9. 105gb data p/mth and roaming calls and data. Not a bad deal IMHO. Im pretty sure you get optus sport included too but I could be wrong.

  • Anyone tried re contracting?

    • Optu$ doesn't give any $hit to existing customers.

      • I tried and failed, rep was would only do online offers.

  • Planning on doing this port my number from Telstra but does the Optus account have to match the same name as Telstra for the number to port correctly… Or do I just need to provide the Telstra account's associated address, date of birth and account number for the number I want to port?
Just don't want to waste their time down at HN if the port is going to be difficult

    • it's easy mate, they just asked me for my telstra account number. my drivers licence and medicare card.

  • +3

Managed to score the deal at HN Bondi Junction. The staff was aware of the deal same as the Optus sales guys on the phone.

    Thanks OP for the post.

  • iPad deal from the beginning of this year was way better. I’ll wait.

  • +1

Has anyone done the deal In melbourne cbd or chadstone area? How was it? Straightforward?

And the total monthly is $91?

Hopefully someone has done it in Above areas, saves me time explaining to the store rep the details.

    • Did mine yesterday in Watergardens. The HN/optus rep was well aware of the deal, and he also said that every harvey norman except for maybe 1 or 2 knows about this deal and can sign you up. At first he asked me what kind of deal was I expecting, and I told him about the $20 + 20% discounts, and he said just like from ozbargain. So yeh very straight forward.

  • Anyone got a $50 or $100 HN Gift Card as well ?

  • Does the 'Online Bonus Data' apply to this offer?

Thinking their terminology could mean 'online signup' only. Anyone?

    • +1

      no its not included

  • Any Vodafone customers had any luck with getting this deal matched?
    Best I could get out of a web chat was $4.50 off a $108/m w/ 20gb for 24 months

Once upon a time Voda would have been throwing offers at customers to retain them.

    • I just visited a Vodafone store, they can do as much as what was offered via webchat. The staff member did mention there was no "discount code" available to him as yet relating to the HN/Optus offer… but to mention it in enquiries to Voda so they know there's a competitor offer attracting business away from them.

So… Vodafone customers, get on to the webchat and mention the offer.

  • Hi all, I went instore to Telstra and grabbed a 12 month sim for my s7 edge. Is there a cooling off period so I can port over from Telstra to Optus for this deal? Thanks

  • +2

    Hi guys
Today I sign up for the 91 dollor per month for 24 months plan from preston Harvey Norman. It comea with galaxy note 9 512 gb and 100 gb data. They were lit bit aware about it but now they are aware. They try to give me a sim card straight awau but after chating with optus rep, the sim will come with the phone. And the porting will start after you activate the sim.

  • My optus contract expired for my phone if I port out to a prepaid sim of another provider, and port back in will i get the discount?

  • -2

No luck in Melbourne CBD harvey norman.

Chinese sales guy outrightly refused to give me the deal. I was told that you can’t have the two discounts together. He even told me that my computations are wrong. Oh well, just proves not all chinese are good in Math.

Showed him a detailed diagram on how to work out tge deal, but he still arrogantly refused. And told me to see him again the next day if I decide to go for the higher price.

It’s either him being arrogant or just lazy to process the application.

    • Goto another store - their loss for business

  • Any other branches in Melbourne that is aware of the deal?

    • I'm going to try Fountain Gate today

  • anyone managed to get this deal in QLD? I chatted with the optus sales guy on web chat and they know nothing of this deal.
