20% off 24 Month Optus Phone Plans @ Harvey Norman / Domayne / Joyce Mayne

1250

It seems like only at Harvey Norman stores?

Need a new phone yesterday, went to one of the stores yesterday, surprisingly I received further 20% off the discounted $105 promo plan (originally $125)
So instead off $125, I am now paying $84 for the plan.

Only available for Port-in customers from another service provider, so I bought a Telstra sim to do so.

The deal I got was

IphoneX 256GB on $105 plan (20% off =$84) plus $10 repayment for the phone = $94 monthly
Min.Total cost over 24 months is $2256
Given that the phone is worth ~$1600 outright, the difference is only $656. so its only $27.33 per month for 24 months

and I get all of these…..

100GB of data
Unlimited standard national calls and data
Unlimited International calls and text
4GB of Roaming Data

Amazing deals!! Better get yours today!

    Nice pickup there!
Video unmetered isn’t included in that plan, it’s extra. Mind you with 100gb it doesn’t matter.
Also the new global roaming setup is much less painful than previous.

  • Can we port out and port back in for this offer? Has anyone been successful in doing this for Optus?

    • i did it from optus post paid -> telstra pre paid $2 sim -> optus post paid plan several months ago to get a new deal only availiable to new customers. one suggestion i found when researching, was to make sure you arent doing it from optus to an optus reseller and back, as that may stuff up the port process. it is also wise to do it over a couple of days so the port out has time to propagate through the system correctly.

      • To clarify, which plan/phone did you get and which carriers did you go from?

    • +1

Ok fellas. Did it at the harvey norman store richmond. Was told to port out and signed on at a telstra store with a prepaid on the sunday. Takes 24 hours to process if done on sunday. If not it takes 15mins to 6 hours on a weekday to port back.

Signed up for the note 9 preorder. 125 plan minus 20 dollars plus 20%off discount. All staff in the store assured me it was okay. No issues in porting in and out very easy and fast.

  • +1

    No gift card this time?

  • iPad deals included?

    • Would also like to no this

    • +1

Not available on tablets, phones only. Still a cracking deal! The guy said if you get a tablet on the same account you can get $10 off the tablet deal.

  • +2

I got a 10% student discount for it and got the price down to $82.50 a month. Sell the phone for 1600 and now the plans essentially 100gb for $15/month. The staff told me earlier today it ends 14th. But I did also hear another staff say 20th

    • How did you do that? Did you have to show student ID?

      • Talked to optus chat afterwards. You just need an .edu email and they'll send a promo.

        • Hi ,
I’m also interested. So you go and buy phone from Harvey and then later chat to them? I cannot work out how that’d work.

    • Hey BlazinPast!

That sounds like an amazing deal! Great job!

Could you please explain the whole process to get it down to $82.50? And this is the 256GB variant I assume?

      Is it:
      1. Go to store ask for further 20% off on the reduced 125 (105) plan.
      2. Talk to Optus chat afterwards and provide .edu email.
      3. They'll send promo code but where to use this?

      Thanks in advance!

      • +3

Yeah it's already $105. Get 20% off to get the price down to $84. From there pick the iPhone and it'll add $10 to the plan to $94. Then talk to Optus chat afterwards to get the 10% off for being a student. Technically it's $84.60 but for whatever reason mine turned out being $82.50. Depending on how much you sell the iPhone for, the plan can end up being $14-25 a month.

        • Thanks man! Was it easy to get the further 20%? Simple as asking?

        • +1

@Monstro: Yeah the staff are already aware. Call the store beforehand to double check and confirm they have the phone you want in stock. It might be more complicated to get the student discount but I managed to get it done first try.

        • $105 for phone lease not Owned after.

          Devils in the detail

        • +2

@tightarse81: the 20% off is available on the own and lease version of the plans as long as it’s a port in.

        • @tightarse81: no I'm pretty positive you own the phone outright

        • @BlazinPast: Hi mate, i tried Optus chat for getting student discount. They said it is not possible as i have already got 20% promotion. Is there any other way?

        • @mdy21: it's a luck of the draw. You just have to keep asking different people until someone does it for you. I told them that I was told by optus that I could do it afterwards online and it's the main reason I went for the plan. You just have to be as convincing as possible

    • +3

You are very lucky you can sell the phone at the retail price, usually people would prefer to go to store for that.

    • @BlazinPast:
      hi BlazinPast,

I tried to use online chat to apply the student discount, but they say they can't change the price because it has been locked by retailers. Do you know how to deal with it? Thx

      • +1

Initially spoke to the sales team they said no and then I asked the billing team they add the 10% student discount. Just tell them that you forgot to add your email id at the time of purchasing. They will ask you for email id and discount code.

        • I guess you were unlucky. You just have to keep asking until someone's willing to do it.

  • And i just signed up iphone8 24m plan with Optus last week :(

    • -3

Use the cooling off period to cancel?

      • OzBargain rule #76: you have not bought a product or service until the returns window or cooling off period has expired.

      • +3

No such thing as a cooling off period if you initiated the plan. i.e. if you call Optus and ask to sign up then there is no cooling off period.

        • +1

Technically there is - I used it to return my iPhone 8 ($59p/m) for the iPhone8+ ($64p/m) at the start of the year. Do not tell them its for a change of mind, just find an area where coverage isn't great Optus for their cancellation reason/notes.

          https://www.optus.com.au/shop/support/answer/try-our-network…

        • I also returned a phone using their "Take our Mobile network for a practice run" condition earlier this year. It was easy to do - just called them on about day 25 and said I wanted to cancel, they sent a prepaid return envelope out, and I sent them back the phone.

They cancelled the plan no problems, so I just paid the first month. But they kept sending me bills for the handset for a few months until I complained and they finally got it sorted out. Take photos of the phone and package so you can demonstrate that you actually returned it.

Not sure if it matters, but I purchased it from an Optus shop.

  • +1

the iPhone x 256gb is going for around 1400 mark after PayPal fees. I'd base the math off of $1400 instead of 1600. Still a great deal for the plan.

    • +2

Good time to wait for one of those 'pay no seller fees' deal!

  • Damn, I signed up to this plan 2 weeks ago at the $105. I wondered whether HN would do a deal but could wait.

  • Anyone know if we are able to pay using the Harvey Norman gift vouchers or is it billed directly through Optus after sign-up?

    • +2

It would be billed directly through Optus after signup

  • Did you have to get a new number if it's only available for port-in customers? Want to keep my existing optus number but seems like a pain to port it to a new sim and then back again to optus.

    • +1

also on the same boat ^^

      • +1

I enquired at my local optus store. Advice was contract number is tied to phone so you can't transfer number after you set it up. If you want to port to a different provider and port back to optus you need more than a week to do so otherwise their system won't recognise it.

    • +1

      no pain, no gain.

    • +1

Has to be a port in, the guy at the store told me it couldn’t be a Virgin number though. Something to do with their shut down I’m guessing. Can’t be a new number to get 20% off

      • I'm happy to port in a new number if they can transfer my optus number into the contract afterwards lol. This was way too much for the live chat sales rep to understand thou…

        • can we do that? I have a virgin contract as well

        • @enzioFirenze:
I asked instore, they can't do that as the contract is tied to the number at sign-up. :(

      • I’m wondering if any Virgin customer has tried porting their number to a Telstra/Vodafone $2 prepaid SIM, then going to sign up an hour or two later and porting to Optus as a Telstra/Vodafone customer

  • The student discount, is that done afterwards via Optus or in store at time of purchase?

Could I use my child's school email address?

    Thanks.

    • Afterwards, via Chat. Yes, any email with edu ending.

      • Can I confirm with you, does Optus confirm the name on edu email against your name registered in their system?

    • +5

I knew children were good for something.

They're starting to pay off the expenses of themself without even knowing haha

  • Will this expire before the new handsets are release?

  • Any advice on best way to port out, port back in and keep the same number?

    • Buy a new prepaid SIM card from Telstra or Vodafone and activate it, porting your number. Should take maybe 10 mins.

Then walk into Harvey Norman and tell them you want to port your number over from Telstra/Vodafone.

      • Unless anyone else can comment with actual experience to the contrary, it actually takes about a week for the porting to occur, so it's not a quick process to port out and back in.

        • Not weeks, minutes. More than 3 day means issues then yes it will become weeks or months or indefinitely.

Issues are wrong spelling name, DOB, previous provider account number, etc

if it is weeks to port you can imagine the economy will fails as people can't do businesses for weeks. Make sense?

        • +1

          @dragonindespair:

What I meant was for it to 'drop off' the incumbent telco's record as being a service with them. You'll find that many will knock back a port-in until you've been away from them for a full billing cycle.

          Make sense?

  • Too bad for us already contracted.

  • +2

When you say “unlimited Netflix” does that mean you get a subscription to Netflix for 24monthd or usage of Netflix while using mobile data is not used?

  • +1

Is it just me or are the advertised benefits in the OP's example meant to be for the $125 plan, not the $105 plan?

Looking at Optus website here: http://offer.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/iphone/iphone-x…

EDIT: Nevermind, re-read the deal and it's additional 20% off the already discounted $125 plan (down to $105). Ignore me!

  • How do you get the IPhone X for $10 a month ? it says $45 a month on the optus page. IPhone 8 is $10 a month ..

    • Depends on which plan you sign up to.

  • Harvey Norman I called said the plans that are discounted already are excluded.. would get in before they start excluding those plans

    • Hmmm currently looking at the deal for s9+ $84/month 30gb. It would be awesome to get a firther 20% of it however that particular plan is already 'discounted'. Was wondering if anyone was able to get an awesome deal for s9+

      • Just keeping cycling through HN reps until someone gives you what you want 😂

    • Nah that’s not right. There are a couple excluded promo plans but the $125 down to $105 is definitely eligible, a few people on here said they got it no issues.

  • Does HN offer their BYO plans?

  • +4

I have just signed up at Harvey Norman Macgregor QLD (555 Kessels Road) with the iPhone X 256GB $94/month. They also give me a $50 Harvey Norman gift card!!!

  • +1

I have signed up at Harvey Norman Broadmeadows but it didn't show the 20% off HN discount, so the store manager told me to contact him after I receive my first bill. The store manager is very kind.

    • Don't feel happy yet my experience with Optus this issue will likely stay for months and you will spent hours to resolve with Optus staffs

      • yeah, I know. So in cast that happens, the store manager will contact Optus to get it sorted, not by me.

  • One of my number is now due for renewal. Can I port the number to Vodafone/Telstra, then port it back to optus?

    • Yep you can

    • +1

I was told by a guy in the optus store today - 'don't expect to port it out Monday and port it back to optus Friday'. Apparently he had a previous customer try it and they had trouble bringing it back over in the short time frame.

  • +1

Anyone have success getting the 20% off of this deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393546

It would bring it down to the same price, but with 205GB plus 6GB roaming each month

    • I signed up today and they were not sure but eventually said it could be done. Didn't get the 5GB online bonus data, but 200GB and both the Harvey Norman rep and the Optus rep I signed up with on the phone said it would be $84 month.

My account is showing as $105, will wait and see when I get the bill.

    • -1

Might not apply to you but fyi, the phone on this is a lease. I.e - you can't (or shouldn't) sell it.

      • The Iphone X is on a My Plan Plus. So owning the phone. It is the Iphone 8/8+ that had the My Plan Flex lease plans.

Can sell if I want to.

  • I called up Harvey Norman Auburn Flagship store and they said no 20% discount on already discounted plans. Anyone in Sydney who's managed to get it, which store?

  • Hi everyone, which Harvey Norman did you go and got the deal?

  • Anyone know whether you can stack another discount with this offer. Optus are doing a Data Sim Saver offer where you "Save $10/mth off a new 12/24 mth Data SIM for your tablet when you bundle it with your eligible Optus postpaid mobile". Do you think you would get 20% off both plans. The one that you get for the phone and the data sim?

    • I asked about getting a data sim. He said they didn't have them. Not sure if that means all HN stores, but I think they only do phone plans.

  • Can confirm Harvey Norman highpoint will honor this deal. Correct me if I’m wrong but the 256 gig model on the $125 plan should equal to $92 per month. It’s $135 minus $20 discount and a further 20%

    • 20% only on the plan, not the phone ($10 phone).

      $125 plan, minus $20, minus 20%, plus $10 phone = $94

    • Did you try the port-out and port-in?

  • +1

I hope you guys are seeing this 20% discount on your contracts clearly stated.

    • Yes, they sent SMS & email to confirm

  • Common Optus lets do a ripper deal on the S9 like the S8 $48.75+$10 or $59 +$200 gift card deal.

  • Wouldn’t you better off getting the 64gb iPhone X if you’re planning to sell the handset? The 64gb is $0 per month to own as opposed to $10 per month. So it would only be worth it if you can sell the 128gb for an extra $240 (24 x $10 p/m). Thoughts?

    • Its 256gb

      • I just got the 64gb model for $84 p/m….

        • From which store?

        • @dann: Bundall, QLD 4217

  • Called up 2 stores and found out
    a) current Optus customers must be port out to another carrier for >180 days before port in promo applies, but this offer ends 20 AUG

    b) all plans on sale EXCEPT for the iPhone X e.g. $105 ($125-20) are excluded

Can anyone confirm if they were able to port out and in from optus OR get the 30GB $89 Samsung S9 Plus 256GB plan with the discount ?

    • Just found this at HN Canberra also.
Sales rep said the $105 iPhone X deal was excluded from the 20% off deal.

      • +1

Called a 3rd store and was again confirmed the $105 iPhone X IS discountable! So I would check again because I've got the green light from 3 different stores :)

$59 and $79 PLANS (not including phone repayment) are excluded from the deal.

Also, apparently HN contacts Optus when you try to sign up with your mobile phone number and if they see you have ported out recently, they won't allow the sale to go through :/

S9+ 256GB on the $79+10 plan is an absolute steal :( really wanted it

        • Thank you for clarifying this. I kept debating if I should try the port out and back in thing but if it's 180+ days on another Telco plus a history check I won't risk it.

I also wanted the S9. Optus do have some online bonus data deals until 2/09 but this deal looked much better.

        • s9+ 256 gb on the $125 @ $105 = $84+15 for 100GB etc etc not too bad VS 79+10

        • I would go the Note 9 $105+7 (after $20 discount)
          +20% off discount
          = $84+7 for the 512GB
          Same inclusions as above
