  • Do you have prime? Wondering if it's required for the deal.

    • Yes I have Prime. Sorry not 100% sure on all the info wasn’t really that much i could find to go on but seemed a good deal to share at least.

  • Have prime, didnt receive the email

    • Did/Do you have an Audible subscription or specifically are you on the Audible Trial?

  • Signed up with Prime 3 months free two weeks ago. Was charged straight away, they refunded me upon request but cancelled my membership altogether!! why would i even bother.

    • That happened to me as well, however, I recommend asking them to apply the deal for you.

Customer service was very helpful, they refunded me the charge, and then applied 3 credits to my account while putting my account "on hold" (so still on membership) until 1st December.

I contacted them via the website Support page and clicked for the option for them to call you.

  • What's the general consensus on Audible, is it worth it? I've been trying to get into reading lately but i don't have a great attention span.

Audiobooks are great. I don't read much but probably complete 100 or so books each year by listening to them. I love that you can listen while doing chores/driving/etc.

Audible has pros and cons. They have a lot of content (well, more in the USA. The Australian store is a bit lacking), much of which is exclusive to them. They're often the cheapest as everything costs 1 credit, and more so if there is a Whispersync deal for the book+audiobook pair (often cheaper than just getting the audiobook on its own). Their app is decent enough.

That said, the biggest down side is DRM. You basically have to use their app unless you strip the DRM (similar to Kindle books). There are claims of them pulling books from people's libraries if they lose the rights and not even notifying the users.

With the launch of Google Play audiobooks, we have a source of DRM free books often for the same price, so I've started buying from them when I can. However a lot of books are either missing or 3 times the price.

Local libraries are an excellent source of free audiobooks too. It's all through an app so you don't need to leave your house to borrow (maybe just to get a membership at first). Just the annoyance of limited selection and having to wait until other patrons have done "borrowing" a book.

      • Thanks for the very informative response!

I really enjoy using it. I spend a lot of time driving so suits well.

The Audible service itself is a bit complicated but actually works out well I think. You pay this monthly amount which gives you 1 credit a month, all the audiobooks cost 1 credit. Its not a subscription in the sense you need to keep paying to use it. You can cancel whenever you want and whatever books you have bought are yours, but yeah you have to use their app for it but I dont really think thats an issue these days.

Audiobooks really take as much concentration as actual books, if not more though. I cant really listen at home with anything distracting around me as my mind just starts wandering or just kinda zone out. Just give the trial a go mate!
