  • Got mine today. No notice, no email, no nothing.

But i've got myself a bed for FA $, so i'm a happy camper.
    Let's hope it's not cactus.

  • -1

Just got mine. Accidentally cut the mattress when I opened it. Lucky I did. There is no 100% latex in this mattress at all. It is fake. there was only normal foam in the pillowtop. Too good to be true for the price.

    • +8

      Hi Gallifr3y,

We like to assure all buyers that our mattresses model which advertises natural latex come with the layers and components as advertised. An accidental cut would be quite superficial and may not have exposed all inner layers of the mattress, unless a full dissection is performed. If you are concerned about the layers of components (e.g. latex), please send photos you have taken to our customer service at [email protected] and we would be more than happy to review and assist. If there is any manufacturing defect in anyway (e.g. latex component missing), we will always stand by our warranty program and provide a replacement unit.

If you have have doubt in this regards, we are also happy to invite you to our warehouse, where we will gladly dissect a brand new unit from package of your selection to go through all the layers with you.

      Best regards

        Hi,

Thanks for coming in and clarifying that.

From a first look of the mattress i'm pretty impressed by it, however I do have a couple of questions that may also assist others:

        1. Are these made in Australia? I know we do make some mattresses here but i'm not sure about the boxed ones.

        2. The eBay ad indicates the upholstery has a "10cm EuroTop construction" made up of (a) "100% natural latex", (b) "Soft conforming foam", and (c) "High density foam". I assume this is all different layers - can you indicate the depth of each one and the order? BTW the edge of mine, from edge stitch to edge stitch, is more like 4cm, however that's an external view. Can you explain how the 10cm kicks in as from the outside i can't see this expanding any further. Perhaps it's all compressed…

        3. The eBay ad also states the Innerspring is a "5 zone system". By that you mean there's a center zone where the springs are stiffer, then two zones either side of that with slightly lesser stiffness, then two zones at the head and foot with the least stiffness? I'm pretty sure that's what you mean but it would be good to have confirmation.

        Cheers,

        AngryChicken

          Hi there,

Thank you for your interest in our mattress.

As a responsible business, we are more than happy to clarify on the points raised. We believe our customers have the right to understand the products that they are purchasing, and that OzBargain usually consists of more responsible, informed and reasonable crowd, thus would do our best to clarify on the questions.

First and foremost, while we're a proud Australian Business, our mattresses are not manufactured in Australian assembly lines. That is in line with our pursuit to provide the best quality mattresses to our customers at the most affordable pricing, thus the search high and low for the best value, high quality materials from suppliers everywhere and having our production facility based offshore. We believe this has allowed us to deliver great value for many of our customers, as it has been reflected into our affordable pricing without compromising on our mattress quality.

We also like to take this opportunity to address any confusion caused by the "10cm EuroTop construction" advertised by our authorised re-seller on eBay (i.e. zzz.atelier.outlet.store). While the re-seller is not wrong in advertising 10cm euro construction, we have avoided the same wordings on our webstore for 2 reasons:

          1. The "10cm" refers to the total thickness of all comfort materials which go into the EuroTop layer. This includes 1cm soft conforming foam, 1cm latex, 4cm egg crate foam, 4cm support foam. However, as a mattress is not stitched to perfect square shape (you would notice that the piping edge of the EuroTop is lower than the tallest point of the mattress), compression from edge stitching along with turf stitching may also caused aesthetic height to be slightly different from material thickness.

          2. Our mattresses are packaged in high pressure vacuum packaging. The compression and decompression process may also results in slight changes of the foam and latex height from the manufactured height.

Furthermore, the lack of awareness among common users on the correct way to measure mattress height may further complicate matters. To promote better public awareness we would like to share a link on the correct way a mattress is measured in the industry:-

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaAJPC8MuzY

For these reasons, we are already in the process of communicating with our re-sellers on how to best present such information to avoid confusion, if they believe it to be important for them to continue advertising the height of euro top layer.

The "5 zone system" refers to 5 different zones of pocket springs running horizontally from head to foot, each zone configured to different firmness profile to provide optimal posture support. We also use 2 rows of higher strength pocket spring surrounding the inner zones to provide better edge support. We do not count these 2 rows pocket springs as a "zone", as it is actually edge support rather than meaningful mattress zoning for posture support purposes.

We hope the above clarification is beneficial to members of OzBargain and anybody interested in mattresses in general. However for future enquiries on our product details, we do seek kind understanding from the public and fellow forum members to perhaps take that to our customer service team at our webstore (www.zzzatelier.com.au). We are committed to provide details on our products to genuine customers. However, we have our concerns on releasing too much product design information publicly as it has comes to our notice that perhaps due to popularity of our mattresses, recently there has been several online sellers who are producing similar looking replica products. These replicas have mimic our brand on appearance but failed to reproduce the quality of our mattresses, mainly due to the lack of details on our product designs. Nevertheless, we would like to take that as a compliment to our product quality and popularity.

Once again, we thank you for the interest in our products and happy shopping with Zzz Atelier!

        • @zzzatelier:

          So they're made in China?

…may also caused aesthetic height to be slightly different from material thickness.

I'm not sure i'd call the difference between 10cm and 3-4cm as 'slight'.
I just do not see 10cm of anything being packed in there.

        • @zzzatelier:

We believe our customers have the right to understand the products that they are purchasing…

          So where are they made?
That seems pretty basic information that buyers should be entitled to.

      • -1

So how thick ahould the latex be? I can only see one piece of foam. Will open it up a bit more once gf is sure she can stitch it back up.

        • +1

There is no 100% latex in this mattress at all. It is fake

          then

Will open it up a bit more once gf is sure she can stitch it back up.

Why are you worried about whether your girlfriend can stitch it back up when you already seem completely convinced the product is fake and not as advertised? What's stitching it back up going to achieve?

Hey if we're throwing wild accusations around, are you trying to compensate for having stuffed up and sliced open your mattress in the first place by causing such a stink they refund or replace for free because it's just easier for them then risking a negative rep? Just a theory, no real evidence to support it.

  • +1

So what does this all mean, did I just buy 4 pieces of spray painted poo?

Looks more like 2cm of some kind of foam, not 1+1+4+4cm, that makes 10cm doesn't it?

I was just checking over the specs on ebay just in case i ordered the wrong one, it is the black label in queen and it seems like you and Giselle mattress appear to be claim each other are both fakes on ebay….one says something about tops and the other says you claim to put in materials you actually don't on those product pictures - your products look identical. Not sure how well your copywriter can twist your words through this one?

    • I can't quite work out what's going on with that picture.
How do you feel like taking some more shots?
BTW you can upload them to OzBargain as well: under My Account —> Settings —> View —> Files.

I've looked at some Giselle ads and can't find anything - got a link?

      Cheers.

      Hi Gallifr3y,

We had sent you a private message prior to your public response requesting for your purchase confirmation. This will allow us to verify if you have purchased a genuine unit as well as further assisting. Unfortunately you have not responded or provided us the neccessary information which make it impossible for us to verify or assist. Based on the photos you have taken, it seems that at least 2 layers in the mattress upholstery layers is missing. The internal structure of this mattress look substantially different from our product, this does not look like a genuine unit (or may have been a serious defect which we will like to investigate further). To fully ascertain this and to assist can you please send us the email we requested and provide a purchase confirmation as soon as possible.

Once we have been able to verify with our re-seller on eBay of your order, we will get in touch with you and send one of our staff member to visit and inspect the mattress. Our staff member will also be bringing along a brand new unit so we can compare both side by side. During the visit our staff will fully dissect the mattress in your presence and check the below:

      1. Is this a genuine unit
      2. Is this a defective unit
      3. Explain to you in details about the layer composition and answer any questions you have

Kindly please get in touch and send us the email as soon as possible. In absense of that and a full inspection by our staff, we would be unable to verify the authenticity of the mattress or further assist. For any other OzBargainer which have any concern with the product you have purchased, please feel free to send us your purchase confirmation by sending an email to [email protected]. We will always gladly assist all genuine customers the best we can and address any concerns you have.

      • This is a concerning matter, I'll await the report on this prior to opening mine.

        • +2

Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons why I always recommended to ppl to buy from recognised stores. Products are usually Australian made (Sleepmaker, AH Beard, Sealy etc..) When you go down this path of trying to save a few hundred dollars by buying Asian imported products, more often than not you end up getting a completely inferior product that will cost you far more in the long run..

  • +3

I've not opened mine, I'll keep it that way until we get to the bottom of this.

  • Can the ones who received and opened theirs provide pictures, thanks.

  • Mine are due to arrive tomorrow. I'm wondering whether to refuse delivery.

What are the odds they're all fake?

    • Unless we open them how do we know?… And once you open it you're never going to get it back in the box, then if you do return it after opening you lose %50 of you payment which is mentioned in the t&c's

  • Well that sucks ! Was wanting to purchase one of these. Is there any other way to buy a genuine zzz mattress ?

  • +4

    Update:

Zzz Atelier reached out to me regarding my concerns whether we had received replicas, I had sent them my purchase info and a contact number and to be honest I was not expecting a call. The gentleman on the phone informed me that should this item turn out to be non genuine I would not be out of pocket in any way, so I sent them photos of the exterior packaging as well as many photos of the mattress including certain close ups also I was advised to check the stitching in a certain area and it turns out it not a fake its 100% genuine phew.

Gallifr3y needs to contact them to verify he bought from the same seller if so he may have been unlucky to get a defective one as my topper looks and feels far thicker than what his photo suggests. Very happy with mine, I would class it as medium firm but the top is nice and padded but I'm going to leave it a few days because over the last couple of hours its definitely relaxed a bit more.

    • But you don't know for sure unless you slice it open and look?

I can't get my head around Gallifr3y's unit being a manufacturing error. That would be like Ford forgetting to put a transmission in. It smells bad.

      • +2

Gallifr3y's lack of follow up engagement with the associate in these comments smells just as bad to me. Does he not care about his $$? Must be very busy..

        • +2

Agreed, though he's been on here for over a year, with >200 comments on a variety of subjects. It's not like he just joined to comment on this deal. But it's still fishy.

        • +1

          @NeBlackCat:

At the risk of sounding creepy, I note their account is showing as logged in 60 minutes ago. Could be a family member misclicking a bookmark or something and not really them 'logging in' and actively browsing the site but it's something. I note someone has downvoted mine and your comment since earlier today was pos3 when I last obsessed over it and looked.

Also couldn't view the imgur link they provided at work. Only just looking at it now. Ridiculously bad picture. I own the mattress and can't work out where this guy would have to cut to get the weird angle and appearance of the mattress they have. Of course this would be simply cleared up by providing more than ONE picture but…OP's a busy man as we're finding. Just rush to take a picture that doesn't really represent much and declare the mattress is fake. And goddamn that's a big deep slice. Possibly (all we can do in the meantime is speculate though) not just the cut he made opening the thing but some sort of further slicing and digging into the mattress in order to achieve that result - or the initial miscut was incredibly reckless.

        • +1

          @hetzjagd:
Just to be even handed, how do we know you're not the seller, currently with Gallifr3y locked up in your basement?

    • +3

Totally agree with the fishy comment.I purchased one in March and love it just like many others on here, eBay, Whirlpool and Product Review. Do not know what happened to Gallifr3y but can he/she come back and tell us what transpired like stemcell did. Particularly important as the deal is running again and these comments have been noted.

  • A few observations for those interested.

    • -1

I don't understand why you care about where the mattresses are made? Just like the vast majority of products that you purchase they'll be made in China.

      • -2

        I don't understand why you don't understand.

Are you associated with them? You seem a little over-enthusiastic about everything they do.

        • No I'm not associated. I purchased a double for the guest room a couple of months back and couldn't be happier with it. So much so I've now purchased a king for the master room and subsequently posted the deal as I reckon it's great value for money. Walk into any mattress store and look at the prices for comparable mattresses, you're talking up to 10 times the price…

I genuinely don't understand why you care that they're made in China. It's pretty much nailed on your bed frame and bedding is, along with the majority of other items in your house, so why does it matter if the mattress is? Hell, even the "Egyptian" Cotton sheets these days are made in China for the most part.

        • -1

@Tr0jan: The rep is claiming China & Malaysia. So much for your assumptions.

        • -1

@AngryChicken: So… they are made in China? Like I guessed? Funny that :)

        • -1

@Tr0jan: Oh you mentioned Malaysia? I missed that. You don't have to blindly support the supplier simply as you're the OP you know. Bit of a self-imposed Stockholm Syndrome operating it seems.

        • @AngryChicken: Haha ok mate though No blind support. I'm just not daft enough to think that mattresses sold at such a cheap price could be made in Australia. Nor do I have an issue with them being made in China. Or Malaysia :)

        • -4

@Tr0jan: You're suggesting I've implied they were made here. Where is that shown? You keep making stuff up, and that's inappropriate haha ok mate.

        • @AngryChicken: Your question to the store rep:

"Are these made in Australia? I know we do make some mattresses here but i'm not sure about the boxed ones."

Why would you ask this if you didn't think they might be?

        • -5

@Tr0jan: My question didn't imply they were made here. Go back and finish High School haha ok mate.

        • @AngryChicken: It implied that you thought they could be. As if they could at that price

        • -2

@Tr0jan: I thought it highly unlikely, but possible. Why do you think you have an inside track to what I think? Bizarre haha ok mate.

        • @AngryChicken: Mate you asked where it was shown that you implied they were made here. I quoted exactly where. But hey, bizarre? It sure is. Even thinking there is a chance that a $200 mattress could be made here is completely bizarre haha. Anyways, will leave you to it, I've gotta head out. Enjoy your new mattress. Or not :)

        • -2

@Tr0jan: There is a difference between implying they are made here, and keeping open the possibility they are made here. I consider your comments a reflection of the deep failures in our education system. I don't blame you, I blame the state haha ok mate.

        • @AngryChicken: Trying to denigrate someones intelligence whilst continually parroting a phrase like a 5 year old? Impressively ironic

        • -2

@Tr0jan: Well you don't seem to get it. I can only phrase it so many ways as I seek to adapt to your brain stem haha ok mate.

        • @AngryChicken: And so the demonstration of your low intellect continues. Marvelous to see

    • +7

      Well there's a first - cock fight where one participant's a chicken.

  • +1

Jesus this thread got out of hand. I don't monitor ozbargain daily guys and I've been to four countries in the last week so apologies for the delayed responses as I'm running on roaming (work only had telstra and only allows 200mb per day wtf?). zzz have reached out to me via pm and I'll respond to them when i get back to melbourne. This seems to have gotten a bit toxic so I'm going to ask mods to remove original comment as I might have been overeacting trying to setup airbnb apartment before i left lol.

  • +2

I was thinking. If zzz will replace it (I'll pay shipping to WA) I'd be up for gutting one of my en route singles like a kipper, and reporting what's inside.

    • No response @zzzatelier?

      • +1

To be fair I think that's a little above the call of duty.

While i've gleefully ripped into the rep for other reasons, they have been pretty good by making this offer to @Gallifr3y, who has conceded their initial comment was an overreaction. I'm always a little sceptical of claims of fakery without hard evidence anyway. Note that offer was to shred one of these in the presence of a Zzz Atilier rep which seems pretty reasonable, given the average mug punter may not be equipped to properly analyse and review.

I'll need to have a lie down now having backed the rep.

  • I bought the Giselle matress 934cm eurotop) Its only 30cm… stretching the top increases it to probably 31cm but not 34cm at all. Spring size is 28cm in the Giselle.

So I only have 2-3 cm op foam wtf.

Can anyone who recieved their Atelier measure the thickness and report plz ?

    • +1

How long have you had it blown up for? The Giselle mattress which you purchased claimed their spring height is only 20cm, and it come with 14cm of comfort materials in the euro top layer. My understanding is that the comfort material take time to settle in so maybe you can check it again in a few days time? Also you may want to check the spring height with hand to confirm if it really 28cm, or 20cm as they claimed? I am not surprise if both mattresses from Giselle and Atelier is different as they claimed to be separate supplier.

I have purchased mine from Atelier and have it blown up for 5 days now. Out of curiosity I have taken out my bed sheet this morning and try to take measurement of it. The Atelier mattress I received is now measured around 33.5cm, and I have checked with hand to confirm that their spring layer is 24cm (ends just before the euro top black piping as shown in my photo). This means their comfort material has raised to around 9.5cm in my case which I am pretty happy with. The photo I have taken is also uploaded here - https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/270125/61599/image1.jp…

Overall I am pretty happy with the mattress after sleeping on it for a few days. I would definitely rate is on the firmer side of medium firm. The only complain I have is when sitting at the edge it does go down a little bit. However, after reading a post of an ozbargain member here it seems that all boxed mattresses would suffer from the same issue as they lack a special edge spring in order to crush it down in a box.

      • 3 days

        • Maybe you can revisit your Giselle again in 2 more days and report back? Also can you check if their springs go all the way into the euro top layer to make up the 28cm which you mentioned earlier? I have checked my Atelier and the spring doesn't go inside the euro top layer.

        • @zeal0t1688: Just measured the spring again its 28+cm! it ends just into the eurotop padding. The orange bar is the spring.

matress seems to be around 33cm now

          https://imgur.com/a/tEj2YBy

        • @Ryxxi: Seems like Giselle claim of 20cm spring on their listing is obviously inaccurate? Also I don't think spring layer should go into the eurotop padding unless it is micro springs which is a separated layer altogether.

  • Typical. 3 of my 4 mattresses were on the freight train that derailed 750km east of Kalgoorlie on Sunday. I hope the bush people are having the sleeps of their lives.

  • +3

I will say this about the Black Label mattress after using it for the past 2 weeks. Its not too firm, its certainly what I would call medium firm.

I have had pretty good sleep on it, but I am moving up from a 12 year old mattress, so any modern mattress would be light years ahead of my old junk. In saying that I wish it did have a tiny bit more back support..

Ive got my king single mattress on the old ensemble, I am unsure if upgrading the old ensemble will make any difference. Also tossing up whether I should upgrade to a newer ensemble or a slat bed.

All in all, great value for the money. I am now considering buying the firmer queen mattress from Zzz Atelier.
