Online Retailer Asking for ID

Hi guys, first time lurker / chuckler at profiled threads / occasional deal partaker post.

Thanks to the various people who have posted deals over the years, and tips.

Anyway, i've been getting into vaping and I have ordered some juice with actual nicotine in it from (Mod: Banned Website Removed)

They took quite a while to do anything, with a pending order stuck in the 'sent to fulfillment' stage on my account there. When I enquired, I was sent an email saying that they usually have some sort of system to check to see if people are 18/21+ but that they needed my ID from me to ensure that I was the legal age.

Despite the .au extension, I am fairly sure the business is based in the USA. Not surprising given that selling the nicotine vape juice is not legal in Australia.

Should I be worried about sending my ID? Also, I probably should have looked for some reviews on them first, as it looks like people have had bad experiences with them in the past. I'm minded to cancel the order and go somewhere else, but I reckon they'll pocket the money then. that said, $80 of vape juice lost isn't much compared to identity theft.

Any tips from anyone? Is it common for 18+ products to require ID to be sent like this? Any help appreciated.

Looks legit, go ahead and send them your ID.
Make sure to also include your mothers maiden name, your pets name, the first street you lived in and your first school.

    • You mean "photo of your ID" I presume…

BTW, someone paid Zuver for a 3-year hosting account, that they applied for with their VPN connected to either CA or DE (for CBC TV or better DW TV performance).

Since Zuver only sells to folks with an AU address (Why? I don't know…), they asked them to expain. They then did the Right thing, ie, after being told about the VPN (inadvertantly left On, after some overseas TV viewing, while applying for that 3-year hosting account).

      Tech-folks got it & half apologised for their web app's overly-sensitive Fraud-detection.

But - later - someone in a non-technical role cancelled the account AFTER it was paid for.

Result: Last I heard, Zuver WOULDN'T activate their account, NOR would they Refund their money.

Along the way, they demanded ID showing address in AU, but wouldn't accept that the customer was a "Silent Elector" & could only supply a p.o.box addr. or an enveloped duly address to & received via that p.o.box addr. (in AU).

(If any1 can assist, I'll pass your tip on to the customer… Private msg me)

The matter is (again, AFAIK) still unresolved… Oy!

      • I think its time for me to drive to KFC and get that spicy nuggets.

        tl;dr

      • Cool story, my post was taking the piss though. Not sure what either has to do with the price of fish.

Is it common for 18+ products to require ID to be sent like this?

Only other 18+ products I've bought online is alcohol, and that was from an Australian shop with payment by credit card (which I assume doubles as age verification). Considering vaping is still in a gray area, that it is an 18+ product, and you're buying internationally, I don't really see requiring ID as setting off any alarm bells.

And while the risk of identity theft is a real and tangible one, the chances of someone in the US going through all this trouble to steal Australian ID (which is pretty useless for say, credit applications, in most other countries) is fairly low.

If you're not comfortable, tell them that providing ID was never a requirement of ordering, and ask for a refund. What payment method did you use? If Paypal or credit card, make a claim through them to get the money back if the seller balks.

There are quite a few NZ vaping online stores that are cheaper, quicker and you just say you are over 18 to enter the site. The juices also have nicotine in them.

Never been asked for ID buying vape gear online the past 6 years. I'd buy from elsewhere if they asked me.

  • Never been asked either, from USA and aussie sites.

  • I'd buy elsewhere. As Tightbottom said, NZ stores are cheaper and quicker, and don't require the security risk of handing over ID details.

Scan your driver license, blanks the birthday date on days and month, and also partially on driver license number. Dont blank your face tho :D

  • It's much easier to import 100mg/ml freebase nicotine and simply add it to juice bought locally.

It works out so much cheaper and gives you the freedom to just pop down to the local store or even order from Australian sellers online.

    Example:
I go to local vape store and buy a 60ml bottle of juice. I come home, extract 3ml of the juice and replace it with 3ml of 100mg/ml nicotine concentrate. Voila… 60ml bottle of 5mg juice.

I think I've gone through about 150ml of concentrate in about 5 months.

Just keep it in the freezer or fridge and it should last for ages.

Check out www.supervapestore.com or www.vapoureyes.co.nz (mod can remove if inappopriate, although I don't see why).

P.S. I just checked out the revisions to your post. Yes… the website you ordered from is dodgy AF. Definitely not an Australian seller.
