A good price for a quality laptop. Not the cheapest it’s ever been (but close), but still a good deal for someone looking for a laptop with a high quality multitouch display and excellent build quality.

M3 and 4G??? pass the deal for sure…

    • +7

      No it doesn't have 4G

      • +1

        lol

  • +9

I reckon 4gb of RAM isn't really enough these days.

    • +7

Definitely not as a primary device that's for sure. 8GB is comfy, but 4GB isn't a deal breaker.

      • I have a cheap crappy Chuwi Hi10 and it has 4gb ram but I think the CPU is what slows it down more so than lack of ram. The Intel Core m3 should be a lot quicker than the Intel Cherry Trail Z8350.

      • 4GB is a deal breaker. I find Windows 10 needs about 3GB just to run optimally: that's only leaving 1GB of ram spare for other tasks.

  • Pretty standard price at present? This would barely be a deal for the Surface Pro.

  • Not $888. Daigou disapproves

  • +6

    Overpriced, need further 20% off.

  • Remember upgrade Windows

    • Just go and have a coffee and it will upgrade.

      • +2

I mean upgrade from Windows S

  • Is it trivial to upgrade ram on these (easy as laptops) or does it come baked like tablets?

    • +3

      Soldered in sadly :(.

      • Thanks… i'll stay away from this glorified tablet then

Is this the surface go? The price would suggest it is.

If so, the review here raves about build quality, but slams it big time on processing power.

As the title suggests, it's the Surface Laptop.

I suggest you should read the title/description.

        What's with the condescending comments?

There are different types of Surface. I didn't know there was a Surface Laptop. I thought there was only a Pro and a Go. Apparently there are three models, which is all someone had to say.

I asked a simple question and two of you decided to be jerks.

        • This is the internet.

        • +1

          There's also the surface book

          @FatPenguin:

I agree, but I really don't get why a community, even an online one, needs to be like that.

Why do first posters here have to beg for mercy?

        • A simple search would have answered your question.

          @Lorindor:

What, that people here like to be jerks and make (even more) condescending comments?

          @rygle:

I'd rather be a jerk than a lazy jerk.

        • Welcome to the internet, loaded to the nines with insecure beta guys thinking they're heroes. They're not. Let it go.

  • High quality laptop with potato CPU and ram. I'd skip it 🥔🥔

  • Anyone notice the specs call this an Intel core m3 7200U? That's not an actual processor.

Let's jot down all the reasons not to buy for $887
    - 4GB ram: can't upgrade
    - m3 processor
    - 1 USB 3.0 port (that's it)
    - only 128gb of storage: can't upgrade this either?
    - 2.747 kg is a heavy laptop that praises itself on portability: need to buy connectors & dongles yet because it's got no ports. Harvey Norman ($888) say it's 1.25kg.

Oh and also, how much additional is the pen?

  • I sold my old one for $700 AUD on eBay 2 months ago. The lack of RAM and storage space killed the usability of this for me. It was a struggle to do basic tasks on windows 10. I only bought it do crypto transactions and taxes online and while it struggled, it got the job done. 4GB is not enough for comfort on Windows and you need at least 256GB of storage as Windows and proprietary apps and updates that can take up over 100GB of storage, leaving you very little to play with. Unless you are living in your suitcase I strongly recommend you buy a PC with $887.

    • you need at least 256GB of storage as Windows and proprietary apps and updates that can take up over 100GB of storage,

For the average user, this simply isn't true nor the case.

I'm not sure what sort of apps you have installed/actively use, but I consider myself quite a heavy user and am barely touching half of that usuable space on my laptop.

    • "4GB is not enough for comfort on Windows and you need at least 256GB of storage as Windows and proprietary apps and updates that can take up over 100GB of storage, leaving you very little to play with."

As Lorindor said, this is patently false. The super cheap machines with 32GB of eMMC storage are cramped, but 64GB or more can work just fine for the basics.

My parents have a cheap laptop less powerful than this running Windows 10 with 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD, and they don't have any issues with performance or storage space. For their regular usage of internet browsing, emails and documents/spreadsheets, they have about half the storage available including an installation of the current Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Powerpoint).

For some extra space for photos and backing up their important files, they have an $80 WD 1TB hard drive that would be lucky to have a few hundred GB on it.

Can't do your taxes with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage? What rubbish.
