      • 'Yet' is the problem. Such a basic thing for a speaker to do.

  • +2

Sonos One is a way better option unless you're totally locked into Siri..

    • Lol, doubt anyone is or that it would be an assistant difficult to leave

  • +1

if you dont specifically need a tiny apple speaker and just want something with good sound at home, a better ozbargain system would be an old amplifier and bookshelf speakers. new shit is fine and probably much better in a smaller size, but speakers sounded great a long time ago too. get some 80s shit, you can often find these on the side of the road, or on ebay for cheap. just grab whatever older amp around $50, itll work fine, and buy speakers separately. if size isnt an issue and you can pick them up yourself, you could probably find a pair of speakers the size of a 10 year old kid for maybe $100. it would be pretty, pretty loud and likely sound amazing

then spend $50 on an amazon echo dot or raspberry pi to make it a wireless bluetooth airplay system that will fill up whatever space is left in your house after your 65" kogan tv, and be a constant source of terror for your suburb. all under $200

I imagine for many prospective buyers of the HomePod that size will indeed be an issue.

Also the HP consumes 9.25W at 50% volume. Compare that to your typical old amplifier, which may run into the hundreds.

        LOL

This is the cheapest the Homepod has ever been in Oz to my knowledge. Good deal if you want one of these.

      • +3

I want one but dont own one

about to pull the trigger on it but i'm feeling like a tight ass again

        • Yeah, I should have phrased it differently. Anyone who would ever buy one of these, already has.

        • +2

          @idonotknowwhy:

oh stuff you im gonna buy one now

now to hide $398 from the wife

  • +1

If I could bluetooth or stream with Google Music I would likely buy one at that discount.

    • +3

you can with airplay if you want

    Apple. $499. Lol 😂

  • -5

Heard it today at the vgood guys. Mediocre sound & bassey like the Google home. Looks like google home designer did the pod as well. Both butt ugly

    • -4

Shhhhh dnt mention google home… i did and got hammered by negs..lol

      • +4

That’s because you’re saying crap you don’t actually understand.
You were negged because you were wrong and ignorant.

        • -3

i understand it just fine buddy.. :)

        • @scud70: you even admitted you didn’t but I’m glad you understand it NOW.
I guess the negative votes helped :)

        • @theguyrules: uhuh.. :) he just said it sounds exactly like an google home..but i digress…

    • It sounds a fair bit better than the google home - though it doesn't live up to what the internet seems to say about it.
Personally i found it sounded a bit muffled, all bass with the treble and mid range quite low.
For the size, i think its really good though.

For the price though… decent soundbar perhaps.

  • Why not just buy a Internet Radio tuner "WFT3D SANGEAN" and connect it to existing speakers, Seems vastly more useful

As much as I love the concept, its Siri function is limited and with their hardware announcements due in September I would wait!

Until I can say "Siri/HomePod (whatever), play Stranger Things on Living Room TV" and it starts the Apple TV, kicks off netflix's Stranger Things (where I am up to). No thanks.

…and grabs me a beer from the fridge…"No not that beer, Siri, the craft one…that's better, thanks."

      • it will need to be apple beer

        • Need apple fridge, but holding out for bluetooth support.

        • @BartholemewH: …wait, it doesn't have the option to warm up my food? Useless fridge - no sale!!!

    • +1

Google home + Chromecast can do this if you're interested..

    • But at least compared to my Google Home, Homepod microphone is awesome. It even detects your command from far away or when the music is blasting out loud! With Google Home, I have to shout on top of my lungs to get it to recognised my command!

      • +1

That's strange. I find the mic on my Google Home shockingly sensitive, even with music playing.

  • +1

Pretty rare to find discounts on newer apple products. Good find OP!

  • -2

No matter how much discount on apple products, a lot of people are not satisfied coz they never have any apple product. But the funny thing is, most time apple products are out of stock much quicker than the other brand on ozbargain.

  • A $500 speaker that can’t be used as a bluetooth speaker for music synced to my iPhone/iPad using iTunes? Yeah, nah.

    • +4

Or you could just use AirPlay, which is way better

    • +2

Yeh, it can mate. Press the same ‘Airplay’ button you use to play music over Bluetooth, at it will automatically use wifi and Bluetooth without you knowing to have a way higher quality connection and range.

      • +1

Ah OK, I stand corrected :)

Funny I came across this deal as my HomePod is playing in the background. For all the haters, this is not for you. As much as there's still work to be done on the Siri front, and I find Apple Music missing songs from the iTunes catalog, this is a great albeit expensive speaker. I never got into Spotify, so it doesn't bother me.

If you are happy to go Apple Music and have an Apple family, this is the speaker for you. It's a bit of an overkill in our small apartment to get a pair of these when I already have a surround system, and one HomePod is plenty loud. Still, my Sonos One is coming in the next day or so. After upgrading that to AirPlay 2, it'll be the "HomePod Jr" for the bedroom.

    • As much as there's still work to be done on the Siri front

Which won't get done, because Apple doesn't have the data to train it with.

Could anyone tell me this sort of products is safe for the privacy?

    • +4

Apple products is much safe for the privacy. I have good sauce.

      • +3

Is it as good as Maccas' Spicy Buffalo sauce?

        • +4

          Reported for trolleying 🛒

  • I don't understand the whole 'High fidelity' tiny speaker claim. Fair enough if you live at college or in a caravan, but give me a bluetooth enabled receiver and some decent bookshelves or floor standers any day.

Edit: This goes for any brand of tiny speaker box btw, jist that this one claims particularly amazing sound.

  • Only 400… wow! Homepod you're my nightmare

  • Thanks OP, I just grabbed a couple of these. Been meaning to buy but had not got around to it!

    20% off is awesome.

  • +1

Might've got this, but I've just bought 5 Sonos One's from the Sonos Wine Deal

  • Thanks, OP. Picked up a couple in Space Grey!

    still not worthy

If you have access to David Jones 10% discount gift card, you can price match it Harvey and it will effectively be $350!

    • Has anyone tried to match it at DJ’s?

  • Can I price match with JB Hi-Fi as I got a gift card with them? Thanks

  • Thanks OP! I just bought my 3rd.

After major speculation with this product, I bought my first from Apple because of the 14 day no questions return policy, just to give it a try. A few months later I bought a 2nd, now I have 3. And they are awesome. Especially if you’re an Apple Music subber, which I don’t mind since I’ve been getting AM free since it launched.

  • Thanks OP. Already have one and just bought a second for stereo pairing (apologies to my wallet).
Used 10% off David Jones gift cards and price matched bringing it to $358. Great price!
