  • If I’ve got a kids toy that is starting to act dodgy (sound off pitch) with its 3x AAs each reading 1.22V, these batteries will be useless for it, right?

    • These are 1.2, imagine it’s perfectly comparable and they’ll work fine.

    • Most toys work with 1.2v NiMH just fine. It's the current that's more important than the voltage. I have however got a Casio keyboard that refuses to work with fully charged 1.2v cells. It's 1.5v, or nothing.

There is an alternative rechargeable for fussy devices: NiZn. Nickel Zinc batteries. They need a new charger for the 1.6v cells and are usually only available online. 1.6v cells are fine to use in 1.5v devices.

    • they're probably flat (it's the current - mA they can supply, rather then the voltage, although the voltage under load is a good indicator as it usually drops to under 1v when they're almost finished).

    • Nope.

Check the voltage of both tyes of battery under load and you'll see why. The open circuit voltage you are measuring is meaningless. The load voltage, ie. the voltage your batteries you have when the toy is operating, is the important one and will likely be less than a volt right now compared to the 1.2v you will get from the Ladda's/Eneloops etc.

      Good quality rechargeables rock.

  • which ones are best for garden lights? Solar charge..

  • Walk 10km through ikea to get these……no

    • +3

Then just walk into any Aldi and get a couple packs of Activ Energy reachargables.

      2500mA x 4AA - $5.99

      • Yep. Ive got only good things to say about ALDI rechargeables. Also there are more ALDI stores than there are IKEA.

        • Been using ALDI ones but they are crap, bought quiet a few and having issues with them, for one they take ages to recharge using the Aldi smart charger, second they run out very quick, third I have charged some to full and put them in stuff which then displays battery is low right away and fourth some of them just flash red error on charger even though they are only a month or two old and using these in remotes, doorbell, and some kids toys!
Might look into these IKEA ones as feedback seems good!

    • There are always shortcuts built in, just follow the signs.

    • Walk backwards, straight through the registers where they are located. Buy straight away then leave shrug

  • No AA's available in the Canberra store, Contrary to what their inventory says.

    • Arghh you're kidding! Did they say if they'd come back in stock soon?

      • +1

They told me they'd order more in (no time estimate given)and that the current stock is showing because of "an inventory error".

Figured I'd buy the AAA's I had already grabbed and will get some AA's from ALDI :)

        • They're back in stock in Canberra. Just one shelf in the lighting section, but there were plenty there.

    • thanks dood saved me a trip

  • +1

Yay, post is only $9 instead of the $150 it was last time i checked!

  • Damn. No IKEA within at least a 8 hour drive from me but I recently noticed that IKEA had a collection point near me where you can click and collect. Got all excited, added to cart, click and collect and……. $40 service fee for click and collect

  • +2

I recently picked up 24x AAA Turnigy batteries at Hobbyking. They also rate fairly well. For the price, I couldn't find a better set of LSD Nimh cells. Delivery is $.7.95, and all up I paid about $36. That works out cheaper than Ikea, and you don't have to walka marathon to get them.

  • +4

For those in WA, the batteries are downstairs near the lighting sign/area.

Wasn't many packs left, unsure if they have more stock.

Or if you want to save time - from the car park entrance, go up two sets of escalators, turn left to head towards the food court and then next to the lift (on your right hand side) there is a staircase to take you into the basement.

  • If I drove a Lada I would definitely buy these.

    • Bet your Lada is cheaper than these LADDA.

  • I'm going to buy this, just for the LSD.

  • Am I the only one who sees this and thinks diabetes (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults - LADA)? I'm just weird? Ok, I'll see myself out the door…

    • +4

      Yes

  • Tempe are always out of stock when I’m there

    • +2

What? it's always in stock whenever I'm there. They are placed in the lighting sections, a dedicated shelf for these

Does anyone know if I can use Nitcore charger to recharge these batteries? Tia.

And thanks doweyy for posting this amazing deal. :D

    • +1

Yes, but it may take quite a while, depending on which charger, and how many batteries. The following table assumes you are charging 2450mAh AA batteries.

Nitecore D4 will charge 1-2 AA batteries in 4.5 hours, or 3-4 AA batteries in 9 hours.
Nitecore "New I4" will charge 1-2 AA batteries in 4.5 hours, or 3-4 AA batteries in 9 hours.
Nitecore SC4 can be manually set to 1.2A per battery, and will charge 1-4 AA batteries in 3 hours if set to 1.2A. SC4 can be set to higher currents, but going higher results in more heat in the batteries, which can damage them. Charging at a lower current risks the -dV/dT effect being too small, so the charger may not stop at the correct point, and may overcharge your batteries - which also damages them.

      • Russ, thanks for the detailed reply. The one I have is the older Intellicharger i2. If the i4 charges 1-2 AA batteries in 4.5 hours, does that mean the i2 charges them a lot longer?

PS: I thought the i2 and i4 refer to the number of batteries the unit can recharge at one time, no? My i2 has only two slots, and I think the i4 has four slots, so are they same or mine is older?

        • +1

Have a look at this review of the "old" I2:
          https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Nitecore%20I…

There are a few models of the old I2 apparently, the review is of the "UK" model.

The review suggests the I2 isn't a great charger. It's good, but tends to undercharge the batteries in the initial charge, and then switches to a trickle charge mode to fill the battery the last little bit. The review says "This works, but it not the best charge algorithm and it is a good idea to remove the batteries within a few hours when they are full." Also, the display will only indicate when the initial charge has completed.

From the review, the I2 takes 4.5 hours to (under)charge one or two 2400mAh batteries (the eneloop XX chart). Many other smart chargers will fully charge the same battery in three hours, which is the ideal speed for accurate full-charge detection. Slower charging means the -dV/dT effect becomes smaller, making it harder for the charger to detect end-of-charge, and the charger may miss it, resulting in overcharge and damage to the batteries.

If it was me, I'd get a better charger. Good deals appear here on OzBargain once or twice a year, usually for AU$20 or less.

You are correct, the I4 and D4 models charge four batteries, but they only have two charging circuits which are shared between the batteries. This is why those chargers take twice as long when three or four batteries are inserted.

        • @Russ: Oh! Thank you very much. I really appreciate this. I don't know that much about chargers, and this was my first charger as I used to buy regular batteries before I joined the OzB family. Will definitely keep an eye out for charger deals in the future. Thanks again. :D

    Good price

  • I need to weigh up the cost savings of these batteries, factoring in purchase price and power costs, vs the fact that the wife, despite repeated requests, still throws out the odd kids toy with batteries still installed. :(

    • I nailed my wife to a wall for just that

  • Thanks. just got 2 pkts of AAA today. cheers

  • Anyone know of the AAA comparison with the eneloops?

  • I need AAA batteries for the Cordless Phone and Bose QC15 Headphones. Which ones are better for them LADDA Gold or White?

  • Holy moly! The AAs have all been sold out in Adelaide store, and also out of stock online. OzBargain is a crazy place. I shouldn't have waited for too long to get some.

    • +1

Says they're back in stock now :)

      • Thank goodness! I've just seen your repost of this and have thought to check this. Visiting the store right this afternoon. :D
