Link me. Well priced 14" are SO hard to find.

      • +2

haha yeah 14" are hard to find of those specs

          Nice!

Admittedly I don't think I'd waste the money on an i7 for my laptop, got an i7 desktop and that's good enough for me. Might suss out a decent price on an i3/i5 13.3"-14", let me know if you come across anything :P

        • +3

          +1

          only i3/i5 for laptops
          i5/i7 on desktops

        • +2

Though this is a bloat free installation of Windows 7 Ultimate and also comes with Office Home and Student 2010 which is the full versions. Not a trial.

        • +5

That PC's strength is only the CPU - this Dell has more RAM, a larger HDD and a much faster video card. Not to mention this has Office Home & Student 2010 worth at least $100. And I would say the Dell XPS range are much nicer looking too. W7 Ultimate just tops it off.

Might be worth mentioning it's $1099 with free delivery too :)

          420m is a better graphics card than a 5470

    • +1

      dont think so….not with office along! and 6gb ram…and graphics…and 7200 hd

  • +1

    Dell XPS is awesome:D

    Awesome specs, great deal.
Big 7200 RPM hdd and a 420M, sweet.

Here is a link to an article about it:
    http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/247787,tech-deals-get-500…

Note that they mention differences between the Dell Store version and the Microsoft Store!

    • Yah, if you want it with i7-740QM and 2GB GT425M card, you have to pay $1673.98 at the Dell website. So this MS deal is good.

    • Turns out that MS outsourced "Microsoft Store" to Arvato (https://www.ecommercereport.com.au/?p=357)

Microsoft Signature: "After installing Windows 7, we pre-loaded only the software you need and removed the trial software that you don't want."
Firstly, Windows 7 doesn't come with "trial software" or are they implying that removing something Dell installed is value-adding? If so, why not just tell Dell not to install it in the first place and that way MS doesn't have to uninstall anything?

How about Honda sell their new cars with boot-full of garbage from a dump in Japan and then offer premium service to have it cleaned-out before delivery? Your choice.

      • Many laptops come with trial software: Norton Security, Microsoft office, and other stuff.
I prefer clean Installs, so I dont get reminded after 3 that my license on one of those trials is about to expire ….

        • Then you don't need Microsoft Signature service.

Good laptop if you really want a 14" with 1gb graphics. 2.43kg is heavy for a 14", and stated ~5 hours isnt that great (probably less)

Otherwise a 15.6" with similar specs (no 7200rpm):
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1079&typeID=23

If you want a 13.3" similar spec with 10 hours battery life, 1.88kg but no dedicated graphics or 7200rpm hd:
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=3a…

    • venu, the Asus notebook do not have MS Ultimate and MS Office 2010.

      • +1

true. but for $99 you can get office 2010, which will still make them cheaper.
        http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/itsnotcheating/de…

im just stating the alternatives. if you really want windows ultimate, a 14" screen, and a 1gb nvidia 420M, then this is your comp. But for battery life and portability (13.3") or bluray (15.6") with similar processing power, id look at the those laptops i stated above.

        • There's no blu-ray, venu.

        • assuming everyone eligible with the tertiary discount now. i guess…

but do agree this laptop is bit too heavy for my liking,

        • +1

yeah no point going 14" if its similar weight to a 15.6".

          @ greababargain
          The MLN computer has:
          'Optical Drive: Bluray Combo'

I think moneyback co give 10% back

    • According to MBC website - they do.. nice find. Probably worth adding that to the title too!

    • +1

      DONE

      EDIT:
      Thanks Ashlea

      • So the 10% cashback applies to this deal too ?

I have a new Dell XPS 15" i7 laptop and it's very good. Excellent performance and the 1920x1080 screen is wonderful. Don't believe the hype around battery life however. I have the extra capacity 9 cell battery and struggle to get 3.5 hours running time with the system completely idle. Dell quotes 8 hours for this machine. The only way to achieve that is to switch the LCD to minimum brightness, switch off the HDD and pray.

    • You will struggle to get good battery life with an i7.

  • What does one need to qualify for this deal..

    • +1

Nothing - it's open to the public via the Microsoft Store. It may be a 'student' PC because it's focussed at students, but it's no different to a back to school special.

  • It looks good but why is it so heavy???

    • coz it has big and fast hdd and it costs 1.1k

  • The only reason I would buy Dell would be for the onsite business warranty. This price seems quite reasonable for what you get, just at this weight, don't expect to actually take it to uni. Good enough for watching How I Met Your Mother and moderate-load CS5 work.

  • Wow this is a good deal. I wasn't even in the market for a new lappy, but i've got the money at the moment, and this is hard to resist.
Had been wanting to upgrade to Win7 from XP last 12mths.
Have been really happy with my Dell XPS M1210 for the last 4.2yrs, currently running with a Core2Duo 1.83ghz, 4gb 667 ram, 500gb 7200rpm HD & 9 cell battery.

With the moneyback co cashback, it brings it down to only $989, delivered.

Shame about the weight, and also no usb 3.0. Otherwise perfect.

Anyone know where to test this laptop out? Would officeworks or harris tech have this model on display? Or maybe a dell stall.
Wonder if i can sell my xps m1210 for ~$200.

  • +1

If you go onto the Dell website, you can get a 14" XPS for about $1260 (using a 10% off voucher code found on the web), its a little bit more but for $160 extra you get an i7 740QM processor with a 2GB graphics card, I think it's definitely worth the extra money for what you get.

  • Hey for those interested in this offer, I'd love to share some opinion with you.
I got an XPS 14 i7 version recently. It comes with q740m/425m w/2GB display memory and 6 cell battery. I would say the performance is so so, only slightly over my previous p8400/2GB. However, it's an power hog, the battery can barely last 1.5 hour, without running any heavy application, ie, only at idle status or browse some light web pages. The fan is churning lke a hiar blower and the air is hot enough to burn your skin if you are close to it.
I am not sure how this i5 version works, but the i7 one is obviously disappointing.

    • i5 should be better as i7 will be a battery burner

  • I read the webpage and noticed that the laptop has 'Microsoft Signature' so I went to look at what it is (bottom of page):

    "Microsoft Signature
After installing Windows 7, we pre-loaded only the software you need and removed the trial software that you don't want."

Oh awesome, they remove all that bloatware and trial software?
Hang on, they describe what they do in more detail further on:

    "Microsoft Security Essentials"
    "Zune software"
"Bing integration - Boost your Internet Explorer browser with Bing Accelerators and enjoy ever-changing Bing wallpaper photos."

Umm.. boost my internet explorer? No thanks.

    • You know you can easily uninstall all that crap yourself.

      • or just use de-crapifier to remove all the bloatware

      • Just think it's funny they say they remove bloatware but they actually add it.
At least that's all they have though I guess.
HP usually has a lot of bloatware including that well-known one on new laptops where the wireless manager chews up 60-100% of CPU.

        • It's not bloat-ware per say, or at least I wouldn't put it into that category.

It's been configured especially for this device, so it's not going to slow it down like the pre-installation of Symantec Norton would, for instance.

Besides, these are just applications - they aren't running all of the time, chewing up processing power.

  • What does anyone think of http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160542…

    in comparison.

    It's the Asus G73JH 17" Core i7 Gamers laptop. $1448

  • Hey guys how does the moneyback work? please let me know!

  • Moneyback is only $30. Still great deal!

  • MoneybackCo $29.97 to be exact. Bought this laptop yesterday and the transaction shows up in my moneyback account.
