    Funny you mention prison cafeteria - I'm literally re-watching Orange is the New Black on Netflix right now (S03E08).

    I can confirm that prison cafeterias use plastic food trays. If you think about it, ceramic pieces could be a pretty dangerous weapon in a prison…

  Slightly nicer designs from Maxwell & Williams are available for not much more (well, about double) on clearance at Myer (wait for extra X% off red-ticketed clearance then look for the clearance tables in the homewares sections in the larger stores, and stack with 6% off Myer gift cards at RACV). With the nicer design you may end up using them for twice as long.

    where did you see that? checked out myer website and one plate was about $15. definitely prefer Maxwell Williams but couldn't see anything cheap

      Only available in store, but I have seen these sets occasionally (and bought one) at about $20 (before discounted gift cards) for 16 pieces from myer clearance. Very limited styles - I presume the styles they are trying to get rid of. You also have to wait until the end of the stocktake sale for the deep discounts.
