I have a couple of questions myself, if someone who is in the know can help;

  1. Does SportsDirect sell authentic brands - for example their Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Converse etc are genuine or cheap knockoffs?

  2. With the new GST rules for < $1K item(s), are you liable for GST when your items arrive in Australia?

1 It's the UK largest sports retailer .
    2 No

    • Thank you sir!

@F3ND3R, Products are genuine from Sports Direct. I have placed 11 orders with them so far, no issues till now.

  • +2

The Nike's that I bought from the last deal on here seemed very Vic market to me compared to other genuine Nike I own. Thin sole, plastic feel, cheap polyester inner etc. I'd guess cheap fakes.

    • +5

Cheap fakes!!! Please take 30 seconds to Google the company and see if they would do fakes.

    • -6

They import cheap fakes from Asia and sell in UK making people believe they buy original good quality.
I bought a jacket XXL but in reality was a L size.
Their sizes chart also is misleading.
I had to return it and spent $43 and waiting they will grace me or I loose $43 plus either I loose the jacket or I pay the return fees.
Can't buy garments from them anymore as the sizes are misleading.

    • I don't think they're fakes but I was also extremely disappointed with the Nikes which I ordered. I think they are non-mainline models.

      • Actually, they are somewhere in between fake and legit.

I have bought heaps from them and can say they are not fake, but some items doesnt look legit for sure

      • Are they the ones from here because I bought two pairs hoping they were legit?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391839

        • No, I bought these.

        • +1

          @josho9:

          Ugly af

        • @bti_jet: The photos exaggerate the bubble design, they're actually not so bad in person. But I mostly wanted them as a spare pair of walking shoes. They aren't even suitable for that because of the lack of padding (despite being marketed as running shoes).

    • +2

I'm sure a company with 5 billion revenue would distribute cheap fakes. /s

    • +1

They were probably Nikes originally destined for developing markets.

    • +1

Have purchased plenty of times and Various brands.
      They’re not fake.
Model of shoes may be different for Sure.
They are huge company, who also own some of the brands they selll.

  • Good find OP.

  • 10% GST is included in the price already and maybe paid directly.

I've just made the mistake and ordered from there again. The quality of everything* that I've gotten from there is absolutely dreadful. Shoes last maybe 3 months before the glue fails and the sole falls off (happened to 3 pairs) or the sole breaks in half (happened to two pairs, one after 2 weeks).
Their clothes aren't any better, the zippers don't even work properly, there are loose threads everywhere and it's just an odd cut.

*with the exception of the two pairs of Karrimor shoes that I bought. They seem to be genuine.

    • +3

Agree quality are just bad. Doesn't matter cheap or next to nothing, still bad. It is a mystery how they can sell such a low quality items under brand names.
Fake or not take that is the question

  • +1

Just a word of warning: they don't deliver to PO Boxes, Parcel Lockers or Parcel Collect (Post Office). If you try to send it to one of these it won't deliver and return straight back to the UK.

Btw the items I've purchased have been good quality but it's a bummer when it needs to be redelivered.

  • +3

Yes I have made the mistake of buying from these guys too. They sent me the wrong size shoes and they also looked like they had been worn. I sent them pictures etc but they argued they were correct and all good! Ha ha….safe to say they have lost any future Business from me. Buyer beware

    • Same here they sent me wrong size (Asian size) plus still waiting a refund for deleted items (40 days already) so I still got time to apply for a chargeback.

  • +3

Interesting with so many negative comments regarding Sports Direct. I've only had positive experiences, even when receiving the wrong item where they promptly resent it or organised a DHL return where I was refunded within 24hrs of them receiving the product back. I regularly purchase ski gear from them and am very happy. I also buy footwear of various types/brands. When on sale their footy boot prices are second to none. Of the 20+ orders with them I've only had an issue once, granted that order had two issues but they were still sorted out without fuss and quickly. Regarding the quality of their stock, I've never had an issue.

    • If people complain, there must be an issue and they have the right to say so.

    • +6

      Here's the thing.
People with negative experiences complain much more often than people with positive experiences praise the company.

One reason for this is because you expect good service. People aren't surprised/happy when their package arrives, they are angry when it doesn't.

    • +1

I'm not trying to be a smartass but maybe you've never experienced genuine? For example.. my experience with Eastbay sounds a lot like yours with Sports Direct. Every single order I've made with Eastbay (back when the dollar was good) was fast and GENUINE. How could I tell though? The shoes were exactly the same as you'd find in store (leather, solid soles and stitching, quality inners, details you can feel and see).

The shoes I received from Sports Direct are the opposite. They're the type you'd find at a cheap market rip off stall. I can't comment on all of their products though but it seems like a common thing with mainstream brands such as Nike. So unless you know the difference, you'd probably think you're getting a sweet deal (which is fine if you're happy)… But not for me.

      • I received a pierre cardin jacket, it was much smaller (Asian sizes) and the quality was like the ones you see at the local cheap markets, the only difference was that I ordered it from UK (wooow), wasted time for research and ordering plus delivery, wasted $43 to send it back (more work) and we don't if I'll ever get the money and jacket back.
Side note: 40 days right now and still waiting a refund for deleted items!

      • "The shoes I received from Sports Direct are the opposite"

Did you order the "big name brands", or the brands that they own (Karrimor etc)?

        • -1

Like I mentioned, I can't comment on their other brands but from my experience and others, most "big name brands" are subject to the knock-off lottery (with good odds).

      • Nope, very experienced purchaser of sporting goods from many and varied companies and countries buying online and in store.

    • The football boots I’ve purchased have been Nike & Adidas branded and both identical to those tried on in Rebel for the sizing. Never bought named brand running shoes from them, do that at Ross when in the US. Birkenstocks, both children and adult sizes, have been top quality. I also buy Speedo & Arena swimwear/goggles/caps and all fine.

SD now own a number of the brands they sell, I can’t comment on most of those as I’ve never bought them.

  • It's denying the use of the code :
FW20 - Your basket does not meet the requirements of this discount code.

Only 2 pairs of shoes in the basket

I ordered some last time. Unhappy with 2 of them. One is the jacket with extremely short body length. The other is piere cardin shirt with defect sticthing on the collar. I donated them since the return cost is too much. I think they maybe mixing their items with factory seconds or samples. Garment industries have those second grades. Not necessarily fake but just imperfect.

  • Anyone knows why coupon doesn't work for most shoes? it says no exclusions still I can't use it

  • FW20 - This discount code is not valid.

worked for me last night, now does not work..

  • The Ultraboosts I purchased from this mob were exactly the same as the ones I got from Wiggle. So no complaints from me.

  • I ordered a couple of pairs of adidas shoes and some track pants for me to wear at home. I've read stories that their sizes are sometimes small, so worse case I'll give the larger shoes to my youngest son and my track pants to my wife lol

  • Too many bad experiences. I'll steer clear.

Thanks to you Ozbargainers who warned us!

    I find them very good.
Have placed many orders and received them all.
I find Pierre Cardin to run small in size so order 1-2 sizes up then you're right.
Sondico stuff is fairy true to size.
Lee Cooper is ok, maybe lower quality but considering you can pay 3 pounds for a top, can't complain.
    Slazenger is good.
Golf and tennis stuff is good.
Shoes have all been good, Nike Adidas, Asics.
Russian world cup ball for 1 pound was excellent.

I’ve only had positive experiences with Sports Direct personally (I tend to buy Nike shoes & clothes mostly, have for years), though I feel the quality of some Nike shoes in general has really gone downhill. I purchased some Nike’s from Nike Australia and one pair looked so cheap in person, while another pair of Nikes I got my son in store from Footlocker had a hole after only a few weeks of wear! I’ve startd buying adidas shoes now.

bought $220+ Nike running shoes from local shops, upper teared after a month. Outsoles worn down ridiculously quick (rubber only cover small area???)

I'll only buy Asics and Adidas from now on

      • +1

I agree, I used to prefer Nike but it has gone downhill.
I also suggest Skechers, they are of good quality and prices are very competitive.

        • +1

          agree also
have bought nike from uk, aus and france. Quality terrible last 7 years. Shoes do not last long at all.
Only buy nike for kids now

  • +2

I have bought from Sports Direct afew times and never had a problem until recently . I bought a pair of Nike shoes in one of the last 20%off sales that had previously been returned by someone else in the UK, I know this as the returns card with customers name and address was in the box! They were marked faulty because a loop for the shoes laces is not attached properly. You get what you pay for I guess. Unfortunately I didn’t look carefully at the shoes or find the other persons returns card until a month or 2 later.

    • -1

They buy second quality stuff from factories, faulty or returned items like what happens with computers, so that is how they can sell cheaper.

  • Can anyone comment on the Firetrap and Penguin brands for shoes?
