There is no 2G network in Australia.

    • You can still call them to unlock it claiming they no longer provide 2G and you need to use on another company that does provide it, overseas.

if all you need is a phone

But it won't work as a phone, will it? It's only 2G.

    Talk Time (2G / 3G) Up to 520 minutes (2G)

    Again no 3G AFAIK.

    Shame file for Woolies?

Lash out and buy the Nokia 3310.

Download Opera Mini for it and you can load most websites, including actual streaming YouTube and even full fledged OzBargain (if you ever see me comment without all the proper commas and capitols and shit, I'm on the Nokia).

Aside from that, all the old school games work a treat too, tonnes of Guitar Hero games and the sort, first year of high school coming at you.

And finally you can even get a Game Boy / Color emulator on there (it's my favorite thing ever) and it runs most games at 60 FPS with the odd dip, I've even finished Super Mario Bros Deluxe on there for example.

    • What os does it run?

Feature OS. AKA Smart OS, Smart Feature OS, whatever they wanna call it this week. Feels similar to the old Symbian or whatever it was called, but not quite identical.

It's a bit more sluggish than I'd like at times honestly, but it gets the job done.

Out the gate it's got a calendar, camera, calculator, all that sorta stuff built in, and they all do their job fine, but I would STRONGLY advise downloading the Opera Mini browser. The built in browser will crash more times than a Groundhog Day-ing James Dean, and even when it works, it still barely loads ANYTHING modern and will have trouble doing much of anything. Opera is relatively full fledged, you can send photos and stuff through Facebook on it, watch YouTube, do pretty much any of your usual basic stuff like emails and forum posts not unlike this one, it does the job, but let's be real, you're not buying a phone like that to do everything your smartphone can… still pretty cool when it tries though.

        • I was hoping it was MeegoOS, which is the evolution of Symbian, and was, in 2015, when i last checked (due to population i bet…. India…) the most sold phone os in the world.

I hoped an english meego phone was about!

          Or webOS

          Ah well.

    • Which gbc emu are you using? How's your call quality?
There's a decent Google maps jar available online that works in a pinch.
Don't suppose you've had any luck wiping the gameloft trials?

OP this gadget isn't suitable for the Australian market.

Sorry, my false… I am surprised this is just an expensive torch… I’ll ask the store about it when I am back there

  • Sorry… I saw this and only realized the spec… can’t believe Woolworths would sell a useless phone !!!

  • Did you buy one OP?

    • No… got too many cheapie phones already… but thought the price good! Discount!!

I would defend this and say it could still be a fun little toy to play some older Java games, but tbh, IIRC from the Samsung sliders and flip phones I had in the day, they wouldn't side load anything, the only way they would accept a game would be if the phone downloaded it itself, and since there's no internet available on 2G networks anymore, there's no real way to get a game on there, and thus, it really is just an FM radio that looks like it would have been useful 10 years ago maybe.

Not ragging on the deal, OP. I love my Nokia 3310 and feature phones are still hella fun, and the quality that a name brand brings makes me much more confident in one than it being some no name cheapo shit made for the elderly like most of the modern ones, however, being 2G only, there really is not much you can do with this one.

Suppose it'd make for a pretty trendy alarm clock for the hipster in your life though.

  • I destroyed no less than 5 old Nokia 2G phones on Wednesday.

That's how confident i was that they would be forever useless to me.

You could have hung them up and made a MOBILE.

      Ill see myself out….

      • Lol!

      • No, i'll pay that.

    • Could have flipped on eBay for a tenner or so each easy.

People are suckers for rebuying their old stuff later on.

      • Nah they had to go in case, you know, there was anything incriminating on them.

        • If you end up with anymore that you're literally just gonna throw, hit me up. I'd throw you a fiver or something for one, the kiddo loves taking my 3310 and she'd have fun messing around on her own one, helps that it also can't make any calls anymore.

        • @TheDukeOfNukem: I almost took a shot of them all in shreds. I actually broke the entire motherboard for each of them. Had to pull out those damn hex drivers. But sorry, that's all i had and they really did have to die regrettably. I work for intelligence and you're on our radar anyway. No, you don't have to be intelligent to work for intelligence.

        • Woah, get a load of Double 0-zBargain up in here.

        • @TheDukeOfNukem: No i can't kill, though my grading allows me to insult at will.

        • @AngryChicken: El Pollo Loco!

  • Paper weight perhaps? Even my granny won't like this one. :)

I don't understand how they can sell this as a mobile phone, because if it doesn't work on any network in Australia then under Aus Consumer Law it's misleading. Buyers would be well within their rights to return it for a full refund.

    This link shows the specs.

      You tell 'em @WatchNerd!

  • This phone came out in 2012 and was designed off really old technology from the previous decade. It's a phone which i bought years ago from Dick Smith for $40. But at least back then 2G still existed as a mobile network. It was a rather crap phone as it kept on running out of space to keep SMS. It's only got 32MB of internal storage and a whopping 4MB of RAM. OMG

I only got it because i was poor at the time.

Now a days you are just wasting your money totally on this as it can't be used in Australia. No 2G mobile network. So this store is just ripping you off. I don't even know why the OP even bothered to post this as a deal?.

    • Even then you could pick up phones for less. The last feature phone I bought (outside of last year's 3310) was a Samsung flip phone from Coles in like 2011 for $5 with $20 Optus credit.

Bought an iPhone 3G (admittedly preowned) for 60 at the tail end of 2012 too. Even then, this phone was a shit deal.

  • Useless 2G only phone.

  • Not expired yet, I guess this item will stay online for long time to amuse ozbargainers :)

  • Woolworths Bull Creek also have a special on fax machines.

    • Well that is one technology that will not let go…

  • Good deal for anyone moving to NL.

  • I'm looking for something liek this but obviously useable as a phone (3G or 4G) and cheap.

Any ideas? I can't find any more $9 Cruise phones.

Do they still make dumb phones or is everything smart now? The thing is, a cheap 'smart' phone is nasty and slow. I don't need it to be smart, because it's for a pensioner who is computer illiterate. A cheap dumb phone should perform better than a cheap smart phone if all you're doing with it is calls.

There is no way my gran is going to figure out how to operate a touch screen with all these menus and icons. With a dumb phone, you press the green handset button when someone calls. Simple.

    • i had no idea those Cruise phones went up in value(!)
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222659276474
$25 seems to be the cheapest now

    • Optus sell a basic candy bar Alcatel for 20-40 bucks depending on which supermarket is running a special.

Telstra do a similar ZTE for 9-40 bucks also depending on special.

Vodafone will sell you a network locked 3310 for 39 bucks.
