was looking for a high quality charcoal bbq. found this….. the postage from USA alone for this 15kg product alone is probably me expensive than $150.

I received mine a few days ago and love it.

it can fit in small tree branches that my webber can't. it's also very portable. I give it 5 stars.

Didn't need it. Just bought it.

  • Just ordered.

I've been dreaming of charcoal chicken lately.

  • Mine just shipped. Ha. What a time to be alive.

    • yep same here. it will arrive faster than the damn radio store in sydney i ordered a car radio from can pick the product….

  • How long does it take to cool down after you have extracted the hot coals from the cast iron box?

    • give it half an hour to 1 hour. I don't let it cool down by itself. when I'm done cooking meat, I wrap up some sweet potatoes in foil and place them in with the charcoal directly. half an hour later I have nice tasty sweet potatoes that tastes much better than steaming or oven roasting.

  • I question how "portable" it can be made out of cast iron. :)

    • +1

Agreed. Will be quite heavy to carry around. My preference would be a weber go anywhere which will probably withstand the elements better than this one.

    • I plan on just using it on my patio, blasting tunes, cooking meat, then marshmallows. And playing Xbox.

    • it fits in my car boot. same can't be said for my webber.

  • Got one because it felt like I was buying it in the US … and I think it will be good to sear sous vide steaks. I need the Go Anywhere too now, just waiting for someone to find a deal.

    • +1

the go anywhere is about 50usd in USA…..but they want 140aud here….. what a rip off….

    • you be waiting along time. webber been screwing Aussies over on their products f for the last t0 years. I wouldn't mind the go anywhere for 50usd. I don't fancy paying 140aud just because they feel like ripping me off.

    Good for korean BBQ?

    • +12

Yes, but you may have to cut the Korean into smaller pieces.

    • +1

yes. I cooked the Costco beef bulgogi and tasted wonderful…..

  • Hate you OP.

    Purchased last night.

No idea how to use coal. How on earth we going to do this lol?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Don't really need one but bought one anyway!

    • +1

      Same here!

Let's say 100 people were to order it, at about $150 each for postage, that's 15 grand.
No doubt they'll just ship a few pallets to make it cheaper, but still.
Thing is, I actually like my prime membership, for the streaming and such. So I'll be keeping it. Probably gonna stop my eBay plus though.
I actually don't mind Amazon. Have got some great deals lately. Hopefully they keep it up.

  • true ozbargainer would make their own

      • At $4 a time you have to use it 30 times to cover the cost of the amazingon unit. but don't have to clean it and store it ;)

and… Whatever happened to the old Hibachi's? You could get them as doubles to give you a decent cooking area …

    • a true ozbargainer would weigh up the opportunity cost of making their own. ie. Some people would just go work some overtime….maybe if you have plenty if free time, it would be cheaper to make your own. everyone's circumstances are different.

  • $129.20 now.

    Grabbed one too, thanks.

Priority shipping would have been an additional $192 or so.

Get a hot air gun to get the coals started. No idea why anyone would consider this thing as 'portable' given the time it would take to fire it up to cooking temperature, cook, and then let it cool down enough to either be able to dispose of the coals properly, or put it in the boot of your car. And what are you going to cook on it while you're out? Good steak? And eat it from your plastic plates? No thanks, you'll be cooking snags, use the council bbq. This is a quality piece of kit, but I'd hardly call it portable (unless you call it portable in the sense of moving it but not using it). I'd recommend a Baby Q, trolley and small gas bottle for true portability.

If you simply must cook with charcoal when you're out because you think it's an awesome thing to do, then buy these, they're $4 and disposable - https://www.barbequesgalore.com.au/disposable-charcoal-bbq-w…

    • LMAO at that $4 product

I definitely prefer Charcoal over Gas, but it is really a long process with charcoal.

    • i'm with you, who's got the patience for coals. I want to be able to fire it up and away I go

  • +1

Just picked up a 26cm cast iron skillet for 15 bucks from bigw on clearance as a lid/keep warm thing if I need it.
I'm looking forward to this! Ha, I'm gonna cook MEAT.

…I hate cooking. But I like the idea of a fire. Beer. Meat. Then marshmallows.
    Can you tell I'm excited?!

  • Can anyone recommend a cast iron griddle to use with the Lodge Sportsman portable cast iron BBQ?

  • Lover of charcoal here, definitely invest in a chimney starter!

    • I'm waiting for them to go on sale again for $15…I'm a patient ozbargainer….

      • $7.99 from Aldi next week

        • At that price I’ll take 10!

  • Thanks OP, I was looking for something to buy on my Amazon Prime trial, plus I get $30 back with Amex. Bargain!

"Save the offer to your eligible Card and purchase Amazon Prime membership at www.amazon.com.au/prime by 18/12/2018 to receive 50% credit each time, up to a maximum of $30 back."

    • I get $30 back with Amex.

      no, you wont.

      • Could you please elaborate?
Did I read the offer incorrectly?

        "DETAILS
Save the offer to your eligible Card and purchase Amazon Prime membership at www.amazon.com.au/prime by 18/12/2018 to receive 50% credit each time, up to a maximum of $30 back. Limited to the first 50,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply."

        • $30 back if for prime subscription only. prime subscription is $59, you get half back from AMEX

        • @snvl: OK, their wording isn't very clear so I might have to dispute this?

        • @JTTheMan:

sorry what isnt clear: "and purchase Amazon Prime membership at www.amazon.com.au/prime "

  • Done and Done :-)

  • My expensive Stainless steel bbq has decided to cark it after 15 or so years, so I was looking to convert it to be a vegetarian consumer burning dead trees, but I don't know how to go about it at this stage. Any pointers where to start to find out?

  • These cast iron BBQ's have been around for years, but this is way over proced i got one from BBQ's galore for $50.00 AU 10 years ago and i still have it.

    • +1

10 years of inflation doesn't make that a major difference does it?

  • I bought yesterday morning and it doesn’t show on my orders. Credit card hasn’t being charged.

    Time to chat with Amazon

    • Yesterday morning is Sunday for us, but, remember USA / Au timezones would've been Saturday in USA. If it was bought over the weekend it might take some time for them to ship out.

      • it should show on my orders tho

Edit: weird it is on cancelled orders, but i didn't cancel it.

  • +1

    Mine just arrived. So quick!

  • +2

Mine arrived today. Crazy! Postage would have been a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch.
Bought coals and starters, gonna go buy some chicken and marinade. And beer. Lots of beer.

    • how did it go? any tips?

      • +3

Went great! I've used it twice. Read the tips brochure that comes with it really: cleaning and oiling. I reckon this thing will last a lifetime if you look after it! Install the bolts heads facing up so it's easier to clean.

  • Mine arrived two days ago. It came with a brochure that gave instructions on how to clean it and properly look after it; it says it'll last 100 years if you look after it properly. Can't wait to try this thing out.

  • Got mine, used charcoal and was beautiful. Used heats beads and was as good too.
