How Do I Convince my GF that Australia is a Rich Country?

Hi guys, this started because my gf complains about paying tax but I am the opposite.

She says she pays too much tax whereas I say we live in a country with an abundance of good infrastructure so I'm content with paying current taxes.

Overall, I get the feeling she compares herself domestically with Australians but I compare myself with the rest of the world.

FYI We're both 26 and earning 50-60 a year.

Maybe I should just drop her in the middle of Pakistan or something for a reality check

PS. My gf/fiance (same person LOL) is an awesome individual and I lurve her very much :D

      • Thanks for the video link Sinestro.

Well that will never happen as you need like a robot lifelike/peaceful and kind society in a country.
Might work in Japan but I doubt it will work in any other parts of the world.

His solutions are all quite micromanaging and he forgot to add in the bad side of humans/people as some could be selfish, some have no heart, some are just plain evil, some are damaged goods and some are just too arrogant to be a part of something.

E.g. There is an organized BBQ party with 5 people.

3 people agreed to pay and the other 2 refuse but at the end they went ahead with the BBQ party but the two people who refuse to pay ate up most of the food leaving the 3 people paid feeling really angry.. That is just a small start with the problem of society sharing.

        • Why do you think it may work in Japan? Is it because they have a strong monoculture based on honor (perhaps to much honor some might argue) and are racially homogeneous?

"Without it there is no welfare for the needy people, elderly, and children…."

If people weren't taxed so high they'd have more disposable income and be less needy. Children don't receive handouts, parents do. If elders were also not promised a pension and free health care, they'd of a) not been taxed so high their whole lives and b) would focus on raising better children as they would need to rely on them instead.

"Without it there will not be any help aid for people with suicide, problems, bullying, depression."

Most of these problems are a byproduct of hopelessness. I feel like I don't belong in my own country, and I also feel like I will never own a home or have enough resources to raise my own family. I am obliged to give my wealth to the Government who does absolutely nothing for me and finds new ways to raise taxes and the cost of living perpetually digging this whole deeper and deeper.

"Without it there is no free flu shot vaccine …who actually approved all this."

It is not free, it is paid for with taxes and borrowed money. The fact you don't understand taxes does not equate to free is the primary problem in all of this, and is probably why our nation is edging on $1T in debt.

"Without it there will be no maintenance of our infra and transportation will be chaotic when they go on strike…"

          Muh roads.

"Without it there is no need of money laundering as the rich don't have to hide their money in cayman Island or secret swissbank accounts."

Not sure if you are raising a positive there. Without ridiculously high taxation, wealthy people, might actually invest their money in Australia? Oh noes!

"Without it there will not be enough to support the each rabbit refugee immigrants family with their dozens of babies."

Okay, now I'm thinking you're being a troll. In which case, well played. I support the radical notion of people keeping their money to raise their own children. If you are being serious … explain the morality of this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO1WccH2_YM

I could continue but I think you're trolling at this point ha.

    Okay.

  • The COL and lifestyle are, apparently, better in their home countries, yet so many people from Asia want to come and live in Australia

    Strange that

      Earning capacity isn't.

  • I've just got back from Japan. Great country with insane infrastructure but at what cost. According to the IMF, Japan's national debt to GDP ratio is 236%. In contrast, Australia's is 42% (still too high). Even super everything Norway has it at 36%

Okay, Japan has had no choice to build some of the infrastructure it has (small islands, big population) but that debt is going to have to be repaid somewhere along the line - probably by the current generation's grandchildren

    • Really? That's interesting… Who exactly is that debt owed to? ;)

      • US

    • what about our 200% household private debt to GDP … fueled by none income producing property speculation on a bloated $7 trillion realestate market

Angola has a pretty sweet tax rate, perhaps you can move there with her and enjoy the fruits of your success.

Or the Bahamas, Cayman Islands ?

Nobody like paying tax but Australia’s tax rate isn’t the highest in OECD countries.

People like her really shouldn’t be here.

    • So if everywhere was to raise their taxes to 100%, we shouldn't complain because other countries are just as shit?

  • Define "rich country".

Rich and poor is relative, depending on your definition.

  • Maybe I should just drop her in the middle of Pakistan or something for a reality check

Before i read that i was going to suggest Cambodia.

Hun Sen has made that a real party location at the moment.

  • Fresh air we have in Australia ( other countries NO )

Australia is rich because we have Wong Lee Tang who spends $2 on food per day (steamed rice) and drives around in a Porsche 918 Spyder and lives in a 8 million dolla property and pays no tax

  • Australia is a very wealthy country. Too bad the wealth is poorly distributed and doesn't go back into the infrastructure other than health.

Well why not stop complaining and just go back to the third world country that you came from?
