How much of salary increase do cba usually give annually? Is bonus discretionary or part of the package ?

    • Bonus is part of the package and can be negotiated. Salary increase varies every year on individual contracts. Usually lower than inflation.
      EBA gets 2.5% every year.

  • What percent of CBA employees can look up anyones bank account details?
And are there steps to prevent employees from peeking into their mates accounts?

    • +5

All of us can look at anyone's profile and all their banking details.

There is a non-editable record of every time a profile is accessed and who accessed it.

      • +1

COuld i call up and ask whos been into my account?

    • +1

I used to work at HP who did their IT support. Whenever you look at an account it logs who, etc, what time etc and is regularly audited.

Certain accounts are flagged to immediately notify people if someone opens them.

A CBA employee about 3 years ago was sacked for fraud and breaching privacy at a branch. Is this common?

Clearly KPI's were unrealistic and put unnecessary pressure to push a sale. Do you feel this is the same today? This is why I don't bank with you due to the corruption I have witnessed.

    • KPIS have changed dramatically in this new FY. Sales targets have gone out the window and targets are now more geared towards the needs of the customer.

      • +7

I’d love to hear an example of a target that’s geared towards the needs of the customer, what does that mean. Can you provide examples in ur role

  • +6

Sounds like you're a Bank teller

    • That a customer service specialist, the guys at the front who answer questions and help you open new accounts and other stuff.

  • Bankers are W@@kers

  • what kind of laptop/Desktop do you use?

  • When is Commbank going to start supporting Apple Pay?

    • +1

I doubt they'll ever support Apple Pay. If you can't leave CBA beacuse your life is embedded with them, open a free ING account hookup your Apple Watch & iPhone & swing cash across instantly with PayID.

  • You have found the cure to cancer BUT you have to kill your loved ones and friends in order to spread cure across the world. Would you cure cancer and be alone for the rest of your life?

    • Can always get new loved ones and friends.

    • That seems like a lose-lose. You lose your friends and loved ones, and also any way to profit off of your discovery? Why would you do that?

      • This is just the trolley problem….

    • No. Are u nuts?

  • Do some stores use Windows phones?

Savas and Windows phones… Name a better duo. I'll wait.

Recently noticed that CBA are getting rid of their bank issued AMEX cards.

Is something in the pipeline to compensate existing customers who will no longer have their AMEX and all the benefits it provides (more points, Amex Connect deals)

If not, what are the benefits of a CBA credit card compared to other cards?

    • +1

If it's anything like what happened to me with NAB, then when I called up to cancel my card, they offered me no annual fee for life (because I'm such a loyal customer, ya know?)

    • I think CBA should follow Westpac. They offer Amex cards, but these are managed directly by Amex to avoid interchange fee regulations.

    • I think they may offer you free upgrade to next level(unless) you have Top Card…but worth calling them to check for any offer or annual fee waiver before cancellig…

    • +1

There's no communication as to what will replace (if anything) the AMEX cards. I strongly think they definately should since the Platinum and Diamond awards are definitely not worth it giving they will not change the annual fee.

  • -1

Are you proud to work there? Or do you have a soul?

  • +2

    Ask a CBA employee anything

How do I get into the safe there ? Any codes or special info I need to get into it ?
    Note: For reseach purposes ;)

  • how do you define suspicious transaction in retail banking?

  • +1

I cant pay my Credit Card outstanding, what can I do? :D

    • speak to the financial assist team

      • +1

Your actually useless, what a pointless ama

  • +2

Can we get proof that you are working in CBA?

    1. What kickbacks do employees get to for introducing new home loans/refinance? It must be lucrative, as I've had CBA people follow me up a few times.

    2. Is CBA generally the most competitive of the big banks at the moment in terms of home loan rates? That's been my recent experience.

    • +1
      1. CBA's own lender get commision similar to third party broker…

      2. CBA does not always offer best rate among big banks…but you can always asked them to match the competitor rate as per the T&C of their product..

  • +1

    Hi, thanks for the AMA.

If I've gotten angry and dropped the f-bomb on an employee, does that get noted on my file which the staff can see when I'm talking to them at the counter?

What do you think of Bitcoin? And is it risky to mention bitcoin / crypto currencies to bank employees?

If I transfer a large sum of money eg. $100,000 out to a competing bank, then go in the branch to close my account, would the staff ask why / try to retain me as a customer?

    • +2
      1. The interaction won't necessarily be what you exactly said - but it will be noted that you were aggressive. We have certain customers on record whether if they are continously abusive towards staff, we will terminate the relationship with them.

      2. I love bitcoin - and Bank staff do not care if you invest in it either, its not against bank policy unless you use a credit card.

      3. Yes.

  • +1

Can you explain why CBA won't do deals on mortgage products for long-term customers. In my case, I have owned two homes. I'm 30+ and have had a CBA account since I was 5 years old.

I still have my everyday banking/credit card with CBA.

My first home, I went through CBA with the mortgage. On my second home I decided to shop around with the mortgage because we have like 40% deposit etc.

I went to the CBA and asked them to match the offer I had received from another bank. They said no. When I asked why not, they suggested that their service was better, so that should be enough for me to go with the CBA. What the actual hell? I mean, its a mortgage account. I pay money into there, and that is it. All that matters is the rate, and whether I can redraw funds if I need them.

Why would CBA not do a deal to keep my business?

    • +1

Switch banks, the big 4 are NOT competitive at all in regards to most things (especially home loan interest rates)

    • +1

Probably won't do a deal because they've had no issue retaining your business doing what they're doing. Per below. Time to walk.

      • I didn't take their crappy rate, and went to an online lender backed by a major bank.

    • +1

Same reason that CBA and the big four withheld RBA rate cuts - they’re banking on most people not being bothered to switch banks to save $$ and good on you for doing it - everyone loves complaining but not enough follow through with action.

Saying they have better service is just their way of saying they can’t be stuffed competing on price because they don’t have to.

    • don't be surprise if CBA decides to increase the home rate rate by 10 basis points in near future… Possible reason - difficult market condition…actual reason - recover the 700 mil fine imposed by regulator…

  • lmao why not just call or walk into a CBA?

    • +1

Because the answer will be different if you ask through audited channels.

  • what kind of staff benefits do you get? e.g. discounted home loan rate?

    • We get discounted everything really, the benefits are pretty good. I have a Diamond Awards CC with no annual fee with an interest rate of 13.24% (normally 20.24)

      • I have a diamond awards cc also with annual fees waived (they invited me to join) which is one of the main reason I am stuck with them despite wanting to use Apple pay with ANZ (the black reward is about 350 at anz)

How do they decide which people get these kind of offers. A friend of mine which has similar amount of liquidity with CBA asked for the same offer and was told no.

        • Just in case you hadn't seen them, ANZ black reward cards and FF black cards are frequently posted with no annual fee for a year + bonus points. Many people alternate between the two every 12 months to avoid fees

  • +1

do you guys really see dead people?

  • +1

working for the bank, and understanding how they operate, what are the things you will never do as a bank customer?

    • +5

Having worked for a bank in the past:

      1) Trusting someone when they say they'll follow up - frontline staff get hardly any time to follow up on things; if you don't hear back within 2 days, call again
      2) Believing 100% of what a staff member says regarding a policy or process - if you have a paper form or web FAQ that contradicts them, they're probably wrong

    • never pay bank fees.

  • why am i always asked to open new accounts whenever i go into the bank to deposit money.

    • My guess would be account opening targets

  • What are the perks of working for CBA?

  • Could you tell me the current focus of your business banking team and what your credit appetite is around property investment and development..

  • Why is it that whenever I go to get something done at the counter, the teller always tries to sell me something…new mortgage, income protection, home insurance?

    • Easy one. Cross sell targets. Waits on OP to confirm

    • +1

Cause if they don't they'll get the chop. They get commissions as well trying to peddle you their shitty super funds and loans. It really is a shite job

      • It used to be their KPIs - however not anymore. They shouldn't be cross selling you now.

        • Haven't been to the branch in ages so wouldn't know. Great if they don't do it now. It was so annoying and unprofessional.

  • Why do you answer questions like siri on my iPhone? Do you not do human? Jokes aside, do you think your job is at risk of being outsourced, I.e oversea, robot or ai?

    • It won't get outsourced which im pretty certain about - although am pretty worried about AI, but that wont be for another 5-10 years or so.

  • How come Commbank is real generous with credit? Knew a mate working as a casual pulling in on average $650 a week as a casual. Was able to get a $25k car loan and a $10k credit card a month later even though almost every other bank declined them.

    • +1

they're not generous anymore. It is really hard to get credit now since the crackdown.

  • +1

Is there a bullying culture? All the CBA managers that came to the bank that I work for bullied people out.

    • Honestly the office I work in is very friendly, good work culture.

  • Does a credit card account expire if you don't renew it?

    • no, you have to actively cancel it.

  • What happens if I tape a fish to your ATM?

  • have you worked in other big banks before? if yes, how would you rate work experience in cba comparing to others

  • +4

Enough silly questions. Banking royal commission is popular. But have you heard of
the (un)popular Promontory report that addresses the tip of the iceberg involving thousands of naive customer lost massive amounts of retirement savings?
Or the biggest fine in Australian corporate history for breaches of AML?
Or reasons why CBA is shedding it's financial planning arm?
Or CBA refunds $16m to 140,000 customers, scraps it junk insurance products?
Or CBA credit card (insurance) scandal?
OR CBA personal insurance scandal involving using outdated medical definitions to deny claims of terminally ill claimants?
Or grandfathering of adviser trails in CFS products?
    Or the Dollarmites Club?
Or the 'executive boards (that excludes tellers) record profits and remuneration structures?
Or how previous CEO Ian Narev refused to sign the Banking and Finance oath, developed to ensure ethical behaviour?
    AMA!?

    • +2

Asking the real questions, I like it. Doubt OP can answer them though, we need someone higher up as a scapegoat.

    • I am going to ask this, a bit disappointed because people asking many silly questions. Have my vote

    • +1

      way above my paygrade, sorry.

  • What is the highest level (e.g. officer, manager) and salary package a bank employee can achieve with and without a degree (e.g. accounting degree, finance degree, etc) in banking?

  • +2

    OP you're just numbers

  • When I moved, I changed my address online, yet CBA sent my renewed credit cards to my old address.
I was told that I had to call in as the address on the portal does not change the "postal address" (!?). They re-sent the cards to my new address.

It took three calls to customer care to understand what a huge security risk this was - the tenants at my old address could use the cards once I activated the new ones (as the card numbers were the same). This resulted in the cancelling of the cards and getting issued new ones with new numbers.

    Sooo…

    1. WTF is wrong with your system?
    2. Was I wrong in asking CBA to credit the points for purchases made in the time period I was without a credit card? This was rejected, of course.
    • +1

Yes, I have actually noticed this problem too. The problem still exists to this day. I don't know why it does that but it just does.

and 2. Yes we just dont have the facilities to do that - you were better off asking for any bank fees refunded.

  • is your job total sale focal? if is basic like JBHI or good guys on sat with a target and just little bit customer service?

    • its primarily customer service with a little bit of sales now.

  • +2

How has the Haynes royal commission on the banking industry been communicated by the CEO/senior management to employees?

Have you seen any immediate impacts of it within the company culture or processes?

Do people at work talk about it and have their own views on it?

      1. with our ceo its basically via email - and my direct manager mentioning it in our meetings.

      2. Yes, big shift in focus from (at least in my role) getting sales towards more of a customer service pivot.

  • +1

How much corruption do you see on a daily basis being on the inside? Or have you come across any corruption/corrupt behaviour?

    • zero, there are a lot of rules and regulations in place, with big brother watching you if you decide to do anything shady.

  • Im currently building a house via owner builder and i need to get a loan but i have a 600000 loan already whats the best way??
