  • Might have to check this out ever since BP butchered their app on the iPhone X

  • NRMA app give me 5c haven't try if it can stack with rewards card 4c

    • with which servo?

      • +1

        Caltex

        • you can't use that at woollies caltex. you can only use it at specific caltex only servos, oh and another note, its 95/98 octane only

        • @xcal:

But the NRMA one can, I will try it next time to see if reward card and NRMA card can stack.

        • @xcal:
Nrma is 5c on 95, 98 and premium diesel. It’s 3c/L on all other fuels.

        • @ATangk:
Doesn't work at all for their bio e-flex (E85) fuel

        • @kiwigene:
Didn’t even know they sold E85…

        • @ATangk: Only a few select stations have it. Currently 10 cpl cheaper than regular unleaded.

    • Do you need to be an NRMA member?

    • You may not stack it with any other offer such as Uber NRMA Woolworths etc.

      • I want to know reward cards + NRMA?

        • Nope it won’t work.

      • That's a damn shame

  • +1

I wonder how they stop ou referring youreself?

  • +12

Would be good if you could pay with discounted Wish cards on the app.

    • +5

Agree otherwise you are better off just going to a Caltex Woolworths and paying with a discounted egift you bought with your platinum edge.

    • +2

Agreed. I need 95 UL; so the 5% off is more than 6c

    • Only works with Visa and MasterCard.

  • +7

Even after 6c discount there are cheaper service stations around.

    • Like United with their 6c offer.

    • +2

      Costco fuels. Always way cheaper.

      • +1

even after 5% egift card + 4 cents?

    • I know you're not in the ACT so in some ways this is a moot point but I'll just say - not in the ACT. EVERY station is the same price, except costco, and except the woolworths servo across from that during the hours that costco petrol is open. There's also some weird non-chain servo called Metro or something but it's in the same area as the Costco one etc roughly so we're all stuffed unless we drive out near the airport or industrial area to fill up.

      Canberra tax, it's very unozbargain.

  • Also available on Android app too.

  • +4

While I love the idea of pay at pump to avoid wasting time going into the store, queuing, etc. I DON'T like the idea of not scanning my Woolworths card, and in some Caltex stores, Woolworths + Myer cards for points! :(

    • +1

Wait you can double dip on Myer One and Woolworths Rewards? Since when?

    • Some pretty strong feelings about a device used to remove more of your money than if you didn't use it.

    • Well you can use Pay@Pump for quick fill and Rewards card.

  • +12

Meh, 6c is next to nothing compared to 7-Eleven fuel lock. For the whole last year I think I never had to pay more than $1.2 for unleaded. This year oil has been up a bit but most of the time I consistently get at least 10c cheaper.

    • +1

      second that

    • +2

Even recently U98 has been available for 133c/L

    • +1

I only came here to say the same thing. Beaten to the punch.

I consistently save 20-30c with 7/11 app. I drive within range of the cheapest servo in 50km daily, then I fill up at my local which is one of the most expensive. Regularly they comment on the crazy savings - I fill up 2 cars each time from the 1 pump, which may be against the rules but they're aware have never said anything. Saves me $20+ a week and >$1000 a year. Christmas covered.

I've been paying around $1.25 - 1.30 for months. Local servos hover around $1.50.

      • In deed. I "drive" to Malvern heaps. Perfect timing when their U91 stock is sold out.

    • Does the fake GPS still work for you? The app is great regardless but with the GPS trick it's even better. Doesn't work for me unfortunately

      • Thought about this but it's dishonest >.>. Should be quite easy to do once you are Rooted.

        • I wouldn't stress about being dishonest to 7/11. 7/11 intentionally paid less than minimum wage for a long time and probably still do. Honestly if one servo can do price X, they all can, it's not like they're independent or anything.

      • Never worked for me on both rooted and now stock, but I happen to drive within range of a cheapy regularly anyway so no big loss.

    • Yeah exactly. I've saved like $100 in the past 6 months I think.

    • The only problem is that you can only lock the price for 1 week then it expires. Most stations nowadays have a 2 week or longer price cycle so you end up paying a high price at least once before the petrol price drops

      • +4

Not if you put a little of the money you're saving into a couple of cheap plastic fuel jerrys. We've saved so much money (regularly save $12-$15 on a tank) using 7-Eleven fuel lock that now we've got it on both my and my wife's phone. Tricks we use to save the most:
        - 'leapfrogging' i.e. if I lock in on Sat, she tries to lock in mid-week. We want multiple locks in place when the prices leap.
        - The jerry can thing: we put 30-40L of the cheaper rate set aside to help get through those long cycles of higher price.
        - scanning on drives: if I've got a lock and we're out for a drive, the missus will scan occasionally just to see what you can get. Sounds like work? Use the Petrol Spy app and it's not even a mystery. We know what we can lock in if it's on the way we're heading.
        - resetting. Did you know you can lock again within about 30secs of it being used? The goal is to have a full tank & a lock before the price hikes. And if the price has come down on what you've got locked, you'll only get charged the cheaper rate. So top the tank up and re-lock for another 7 days.

tldr; Get the app. Save $.

          • 'leapfrogging' i.e. if I lock in on Sat, she tries to lock in mid-week. We want multiple locks in place when the prices leap.

Staggered price locks. Effective, if you can't roadtrip virtually ;)

        • 'drives'

        • Just remember if you're using cheap cans/drums, be careful. If you get in an accident they aren't bagged internally so they can get punctured and explode so don't take them on long trips.

      • If you use the GPS hack you can get the cheapest price anywhere in Australia. Not all states have the same price cycle so can pretty much always find somewhere near the bottom of the cycle.

        • Excuse my ignorance but don't GPS hacks require jailbreaking the iphone? If so, I get the appeal, but I'll pass.

        • +1

          @MattyD:
          Yes for iphone.
Look into NOX android simulator, quite easy, will leave your iphone untouched.

        • @cwongtech: thanks cwongtech, looks interesting!

      • Get a free Telstra sim + a different CC (e.g. prepaid VISA card because same card cannot be registered on two different 7/11 acc) + new email address = New 7/11 account

I have three 7/11 accounts and I lock in the fuel price 3 times every Monday night for use throughout the week - and to avoid those dreaded queues at my local's cheapest servos on Mondays.

    • With that though - do you not have to pre-pay (i.e. put credit) into the account? That's always put me off.

Alot of sites don't have fuelpay working yet.

    • +1

It’s launched from July 16. Should work with every Caltex COCO sites.

      • COCO?

        • Company Owned Company Operated.

        • @haitchb:

          Are you sure?
Used it tonight in Central Coast and believe that was a franchise site. Long Jetty?

        • @Grimninja1604: yes it should work with other sites as well but as he said above not all accepts fuelpay in his response i was saying at least COCO accepts FuelPay.

  • +3

Can you use your phone next to fuel pump?

    • Most outlets would advise against this.

I know since BP brought out BPme, they have had to plaster giant stickers near their fuel pumps advising not to use their phone at the pump.

      • +1

Yep even though the Petroleum companies have known this is BS for over 2 decades.
Here's a Dr Karl story on it from 12yrs ago!
        http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2006/11/30/1799366.ht…

        • +3

It's more the distraction danger. People need to pay attention to their surroundings when fuel and moving cars are involved.

        • +1

          @Sweetnsour:
          Static electricity danger not distraction..

        • @cwongtech:theoretically yes. But there's more chance getting hit by a car while on mobile phone or spilling fuel

        • @Sweetnsour: any stats to show anyone injured at a servo whilst on a mobile? Sure if you're using a mobile whilst pumping, then you deserve whatever happens. but even if hit by a car ay very low speeds (it's ultimately the drivers fault for failing to give way in a pedestrian area), there won't be much harm done.

    • Yes policy is changed now you can use but while filling it’s not allowed.

    BP > Caltex

    • +10

yes BP (Petrol prices) > Caltex (Petrol prices)

apart from that it all comes via the same tanker from Singapore

  • For those using Amex cards to rack up points with petrol, the app doesn't take it. Just a heads up.

    • I find a lot of Caltex stations don't take Amex (tho the woolworths express ones tend to)

      • They ask for surcharges but do accept AMEX.

  • Plus, share the love with family and friends, and you'll get an extra 6c off per litre! They just need to be new users to FuelPay. Here's how it works:

    Open the app
Open the Caltex Australia app and go to the profile tab.

    Select refer a friend
This will create an SMS or email for you to send to your friend.

    And you’ll both save
Once they download the app, and bought fuel using FuelPay, they'll save on their first 3 fills and you’ll save an extra 6c off too

So does that stack to save 12c, or does it just give you an extra 6c usage?

    • My guess is an extra 6c use

  • -1

First 3 fills…. every week, month, year, or life?

    • +1

      first 3 fills….ever fill #4 - #999,999,999,999,999,999,999~ full price.

~ after that we've run outta oil.

  • What's the best Caltex stacked discount?

I went in to my local Caltex the other day and it didn't allowed Woolworths e gift cards so I only got 4c from my Woolworths store card.

    • +1

Woolworths eGift Card + 4c/L off for grocery shop + 4c/L off for >$5 in store spend (eg 6L of milk or phone recharge voucher)

    • Make sure it's woolworths caltex and not star caltex.

  • -1

The world is full of Bait crap! Mobile ones the worst, Banks even printer makers.

Screw up ya mobile and suffer till ya get a new one.

Use Uber momentum gold card, pay 8 c more but get 6c off or move to the dirty truck outlet and be back square one.

Oh forgot to mention the 15c off Coles express spend 30 min on net and then find out once you filled up that they forgot to tell you that your local servo does not participate!

  • Does this work at all Caltex or just select stores?

    • only with caltex starmart

      • Caltex StarMarts, The Foodary, Bites but not with Caltex Woolworths Branded sites.

  • +3

Cheapest ULP at a Caltex around me is $1.47 per L. So 6c off per L is 4.1%.
You are better off going to a WW Caltex fuel station, using your 4c discount with WW Reward Card and getting 5% off using a Wish Gift Card. ~7.6% off.

  • +4

Caltex supplies woolies, it’s cheaper to use wish cards giving 5% off on any given day (petrol is more than $1.20) since that’s the same as 6c off (5%). Given Petrol these days, it’s a bigger discount to go to woolies on any given day.

Add the fact you can get 4c off, and another 4c for spending $5 (get milk, $1 per litre)

    • Argh, what is this sorcery? I switched to Coles for Velocity points last year, but now you’ve got me wanting to switch back!

  • Do i need my own internet on the phone or do i connect to their free wifi?

    • +12

I'll let you figure that one out logically.

  • does the app work at woolies caltex branded stores and can you stack with the westpac cash back offer? dont all caltex stores charge a surcharge for paying with an amex. will the surcharge fee still apply if you pay with app linked to an amex card?

    • Woolworths petrol stations don't have the Fuel Pay feature. You can only use MasterCard/VISA to pay.

  • SOMEthing went wrong please try again later on my ios

    • Same!

  • -1

Discount won’t work but will it let me use star card in the app?

  • I gather LPG is not included in discount
