I had Thinkpad E580 I5 from 2 years ago and no problem.

I've got this exact model, I've not had any issues myself. It spins up a little when under load, but hasn't overheated or anything.

      • I've got this exact model too.

No issues with overheating. Inlcuding some pretty heavy usage (video encoding + mild gaming).

        Albeit it's winter..

I bought this laptop for a friend, and they haven't reported any issues

Wow, almost 50% off at just over $1k?

I've decided against this laptop based on others' experiences. Not paying extra for a (quite poor) dGPU that you can't necessarily use.

Had this issue, simply updated drivers and configured the settings in AMD graphics control panel. There's options for how it selects which GPU to use, the default setting is insanely bad. Seems as if it randomly switches when it notices the battery is draining quite quickly… I've now got it on auto mode for most programs, then custom settings for a few select programs to always use the dedicated GPU.
