Bose QuietComfort Headphones Airline Adapter $9 Delivered @ Bose Online (Ships After 8 August)

1120

Hey everyone, this is my first post so please let me know if I need to change anything. I usually get beaten to posting a deal so am pretty excited i can finally contribute to this community!

Like many of you, i found myself taking advantage of one of the recent Bose QC 35 II deals only to find out that they do not include the Headphones Airline Adapter anymore!

After a google quick search, I found that Bose AU are currently selling them online for $9 with free delivery. reviews say they are flimsy and break easily but i guess they are the best option for the price at the moment (please correct me if i am wrong).

The page says that it'll be 'BACK IN STOCK ON JULY 24' but i was still able to order them so i presume they are taking orders and will post them out when they get them back in stock.

I'm also not sure if Bose free delivery is a limited time offer so please let me know if any of you have issues with free delivery and i will change my post.

There was an original post (link below) in December 2017 referring to this deal but it says expired so I thought I would do a fresh post considering it may have been a different deal:

Umm these can be had from zapals etc for like 99 cents delivered

    • +21

I flew Singapore Airline last year, they gave me disposable HPs with an adaptor. Due to 1 stopover, I collected 4 of them.

      • +3

I'm pretty sure Virgin did this last time I flew with them too.. if you requested earphones.

      • same! so good cos we only just got the QC35II and didn't realise it didn't come with the adapter :(

    • +5

This adaptor does have some passive electronics inside that filters out electrical noise. Useful for airplanes since power source would be noisy AF. Downside is that sound level drops slightly.

      • -3

I highly doubt this would be the case. What is your source?

      • +2

It's actually an upside that it reduces volume a bit - airline headphones are much quieter than any you bring yourself, so the adapter is designed to reduce the volume a bit to make sure when the staff use the PA it doesn't blast your ears (found that out the hard way when I didn't use an adapter…)

        • You are right. And QC 15 have a Hi/Lo switch on the side that attaches to the headphones.

  • +1

Good deal it seems for a genuine adapter. Just bought one! thanks!

    • +1

      These should be included.

      • +2

        They should be, but aren’t!

  • +3

As solidussnake said, these are way cheaper elsewhere. Also, I haven't been on a flight in years that would even use these anymore.

    • +23

I can guarantee that if you go on a long haul flight, and forget to take your own adapter, then the plane will happen to have this old style, and you'll be forced to put up with either using the poor quality provided headphones, or spend the entire flight trying to balance the 3.5mm stereo plug into one of the airline mono sockets.
      (true story)

      • +2

I guess I also haven't been on a flight in years without my own tablet/phone for entertainment too.

      • A few layers of paper jammed onto the plug works well to get the position right. Don't ask how I found that out…

      • I balanced my 3.5mm earphones in a mono socket on all 4 flights to/from the UK recently. I think it came out once the whole time.

  • +7

you can get on ebay for under $1 delivered

  • +9

Good deal for "genuine" but these are genuinely no better than the generics.

    • +12

But it says 'BOSE' on it!!!

    • +2

It does have some electrical magickry that filters out a lot of static.

      /clearly not an electrician

  • Does this work with qc35 ii where it is wireless?

    • +1

Yes qc35 ii includes a 3.5mm cable which will fit this adapter (may also include the adapter but can't recall).

      • QC35 II doesn't include this adaptor.

      • +1

        QC35 I includes the adapter, II doesn't.

  • +3

Sony 1000XM2 comes with a free, genuine Sony adapter. Why can't Bose include one?

    • -3

      It does…

      • +1

They used to with the first version, but the QC35 II don't include it.

    • -3

Because BOSE customers tend to be wooden ducks.

  • +3

isnt this the normal price? wheres the bargain?

  • +2

Meh, just get a Bluetooth adaptor and you won't have to deal with cabling (for those with wireless headphones)

    • Does a bluetooth adapter work on planes?

      • +1

Yes you can get bluetooth to 3.5mm but they require their own battery so you'd be depleting the headphones AND the adapters battery at the same time.

      • +1
        • Only $50!

      • +1

It's great having a Bluetooth adaptor on a flight, makes getting out of your seat easy instead of having to pack away everything incase you snag and break a lead.

        • Did you buy the above bluetooth adapter?

      • +2

Yeah. But not after you forget you had it and leave it there.

        • +2

          This.

Did exactly that and when i realized, i was already through passport control and they wouldnt let me back in and the airline was useless in helping

    • +1

Just make sure you get a BT transmitter that uses low latency (like aptX or AAC) so that the audio is in sync with the video. Nothing worse than watching a movie where the sound lags behind what you're seeing.

Another handy tip: if your BT transmitter has a short cable, stick a piece of blu-tack on it so you can stick it on the arm rest, rather than have it dangling by its cable.

      I use this one: https://brightechshop1.myshopify.com/products/brightech-brig…

  • +3

Qantas supply this type of adaptor with their own headphones on many flights. I just disconnect their woeful headphones and plug mine in.

Though if you want Bose branded this is a good deal. Paying a hefty premium for the logo though.

  • +12

    A) why the hell would Bose emit this?
    B) Why the hell would you support Bose emitting this by buying their one that is over 7x the price you can get one for?

My QC35s came with one, because they are marketed as for use on a plane. The case even has the little spot for it.

    • +1

Maybe they saw the irony of wireless headphones marketed for use on planes which come with cords and plane adapters, and worked out they could add more irony by getting customers pay for the adapter separately?
Lets see if they come up with a QC35 III which comes without a cord too!

    • +5

      "emit"?
You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

      • +1

Oh god. Yeah it’s been one of those days.
        I mean omit of course.

        • It's ok I have thosedays every day.

  • +1

I think you're all missing the point, it has the 'Bose' logo on it. Some people (clearly not us Ozbargainers) value logos.

Same can be said re shoes, we overpay for something with a tick on it!

    • But that tick was made by a 5 year old.

  • +1

This could just be me but does this one allow you to fold one side down - by the angle it doesn't seem like it?

  • +5

If these are the same as the one I got with my QC35's (v1), they are an attenuating adapter, which is useful if you don't like having your eardrums exploded every time they make a PA annoucement. Sure there are cheaper ones, but they wont have that circuitry

  • +1

The foldy bit is fragile and mine broke.

    • Hot glue it.

      • +14

No I'd rather complain about it on an internet.

    • +1

Yep, broke mine with my fat arse trying to squeeze back into my economy seat.

      • +1

        A business-sized arse in an economy-sized seat…one of travel's true tragedies…

      • I have a similar tale of woe

  • +1

    $1 here…?

  • +3

So many people are suggesting cheap $1 adapters but these ARE NOT EQUAL.

Those usually DO NOT have an attenuator built in to filter out the background noise. This makes a massive difference when flying due to significant noise and generally garbage DACs in the seats.

I've personally tried both cheapo $1 eBay adapters and even the $7 JB Hifi ones and they all hiss so loudly I can barely understand the dialogue. Not even worth $1.

Interestingly, the provided adapters on Qantas flights (which you can unplug from the headphones) do not suffer from this issue. So for me the options are either nick a pair of flight headphones and cut out the adapter, or buy this Bose one.

    • +1

I can also confirm these work better than the cheap adapters and that the Qantas adapter seems to work much better than the cheap adapter.

The Bose adapter is easily broken however - I broke mine getting back into my seat, so just be wary.

      • It has been a long time since i use flight headphone. Are they still providing a headphone with an adapter or the headphone cord has already come with the adapter. ie. you can't unplug and plug your own headphone.

    • Agreed. Just nick one from the headphones on QF

  • +1

Awesome thanks, I just became the son of the year as my Mum had just lost hers and wanted to replace it!

  • Jetstar B787 routes gives this out for free as well.

    • Check your CC statement…nothing with Jetstar is free.

      • That's the point. Even jetstar is giving these for free. Why pay for it.

  • +5

The reviews of this adaptor displayed on the Bose site are quite entertaining and provide an illuminating insight into the mind of your typical Bose headphone owner, e.g.

"I used it on a flight And I was satisfied that I did because it is god fur health"

"Sounded great when it first worked. One trip to the bathroom and brushed it with my leg going past and one of the pins just broke off. I got maybe an hour use from it. Wish I'd known it was so delicate!"

"…I'm just glad they are cheap to replace…"

"I want a Bose one in blue . I love my headphones ! And I won't settle for less. Your sales need to match the quality of you product. Remember reputation is everything." Actually thirst is everything - obey your thirst!

"I'm trying to use these and I don't know if they're just supposed to work or if I have to pair it to use it but it doesn't show up in my blue tooth list and I'm extremely frustrated."

    • Gold LOL

  • +1

I found mine was faulty - emailed them and they sent me one for free. Try that before you spend $9.

  • Coincidently, a good deal on the QC25s over at Amazon US https://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling… Have read that these can be bought for as low as US$75-80 with various discounts (although may not be available outside of USandA). The Airline Adapter comes free too!

I also stumbled across this bluetooth adapter.. https://www.amazon.com.au/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-QuietCo… Not sure about the quality and it's a bit pricey but allows for a QC35 makeover.

  • From my experience, JAL, Qantas, Cathay Pacific gives you an adapter with the free earphone they provide.

  • Flying China Southern and these will be handy!

  • +1

i never have enough money to fly outside of Australia or on any airline offering any kind of "entertainment" lol, i'll pass

  • +1

For $9 I thought this would allow me to wirelessly connect to the headphone jack. That would be good value.

This is just 3 cents worth of plastic and metal pins…

  • thanks, bought some on eBay

  • The last few planes I've been in (787 etc) all have 3.5mm jacks. I never used my airplane adapter that came with my QC35. Prefer BT as thats what they're intended for.

  • +1

Isn’t there an airline Bluetooth adapter somewhere? Point of buying wireless then using wires is lost on me

  • Thank you for posting this. Your post reminded me to get one

  • I like these posts that build on another oosts' success and needs. Well done.

  • I was in SFO last year, and visited the BOSE store downtown, they gave me 2 adapters for free.

  • Flying with Qantas, I've had no trouble getting "stereo" out of just one port.. Maybe it's because of how bad quality the audio is to begin with, but I usually do notice if I'm only watching mono on a movie but didn't using this method.
Also the free headphones they hand out have a removable adapter ziptied to them. Just take them home and cut the ziptie.

  • Sweet as. I recently lost the one that came with my QC35 I. 🙂

  • Soothsayer called it…the cheap ones are crap.Mine embarrassingly broke off in the airplane socket last year on the way to Europe. The Bose version are superior.Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

  • I usually take a pair of Qantas headphone when I travel to get the adaptor…

  • Cheers op got one!
