  • Sweet! was just saying yesterday that I wanna get the movie channels, was seriously gonna switch plans.

    • +10

that reminds me ive beee meaning to ring foxtel and downgrade my package, struggling to find something worth watching, I havent seen or isnt a repeat.

      • +3

I just did this. I had Showtime and was finding that the only thing I was watching on it was Dexter. I've either seen all the movies or as you say they were repeats/not worth watching.

  • I wish they had the Footy Channel for free again… :(

  • When they say:

And with your FOXTEL iQ or iQHD box, you can record heaps of your favorite movies during this time to watch when you want.

Can you watch them after March 2nd?

    • yep…

it's only pay-per-view that are restricted to a time frame…

      • I'm not so sure about that. We've had issues before where our plans changed for some reason and as a result we couldn't watch anything we'd previously recorded. There's certainly some kind of protection for watching recorded stuff based on your subscription.

        • Above it says…

"And with your FOXTEL iQ or iQHD box, you can record heaps of your favorite movies during this time to watch when you want."

I want to watch it after March 2…

Anything you record on a channel you subscribe to you can watch regardless of if you still subscribe to that channel.

Sometimes foxtel has to send out a special command to the box to make it change packages (I think this occurs with mid month plan changes) and this can cause problems with previous recordings.

        • I Don't have any movie packages and last time they did this Promo I filled up the iq2. After the deal finished, I had no problems watching the recorded movies months later.

Thanks to the heads up OP

    • As others have stated no problem watching movies after the expiry of the promo (I still have movies saved on IQ2 from the last free movie promo yet to be watched)

  • pub channels these are like foxtel (without the sports except for one hd)… guess i plus this deal for the existing subscribers tho!

  • Wonder if this is available for Xbox360 subs.. It doesn't exclude it specifically in the fine print, but then the wording is geared towards proper subscribers. Anyone know?

might keep my subscription just a little longer now. Sick of Foxtel now its an absolute joke the amount of repeats and advertisements they show is sickening. Spending over $100 a month throughout the household (we have 2 boxes) and just no value there at all. Get almost all channels except the movies which is very frustrating as well.

still got the stupid old foxtel digital box as well and the resolution is crap. its high time they upgraded us for free both in the included channels and to a HD box..

    • hell yes, im still using an old box, i was told a few months ago that foxtel will be phasing out the standard non iq boxes, but in the meantime they are trying to get as many people to pay for them before they replace the old ones for free. dont know how true this is.

    • still got the stupid old foxtel digital box as well and the resolution is crap. its high time they upgraded us for free both in the included channels and to a HD box..

A new box will not make the foxtel picture look better

      • +2

if its the same old box as we have, the only choice is getting the feed from a composite video cable. switching from a composite video cable source to component/hdmi usually makes for a better picture.

        • switching from a composite video cable source to component/hdmi usually makes for a better picture.

Composite can carry full resolution SD without degrading the picture quality and you are only watching foxtel SD channels so using a cable which can carry a higher resolution image than the one you are watching will not improve the image.

        • The problem is that people are buying larger and larger tv's, that's why an SD picture looks crap…

SD looks fine on 32" or less…

        • This is true, i had the normal box without HDMI and when i changed to a new version box the image is MUCH better. I got the HD IQ but all channels look better. i also have a standard IQ in another room and when it was connected by composite it looked sh*t and when i used a HDMI cable it was noticeably much better. i dont know why but it did. IQ2 is on a 50" and IQ on 32

      • Well a HD one will allow me to watch HD channels which would be much better. I know most of them will still look like crap though.

        • Well a HD one will allow me to watch HD channels

Only if you want to pay even more for them!

I know most of them will still look like crap though.

          The HD channels look great

    • a simple call to Foxtel saying you will "disconnect" will lead to a reduced monthly fee and free upgrade to IQ2/free extra box

        often, but not always…

      • +1

I tried to bluff that with my american express, its a spare card that I very rarely use and I got a renewal with the annual fees and rung them up telling them i wanted to cancel thinking they'd waive the fees or do something, but they were like "yep, no problems we can arrange that for you" didnt try to keep my business, so I ended up canceling a card that I didnt really want to cancel lol

        • i've never paid any credit card fees, have an AMEX, VISA and Mastercard… shop around…

        • its a spare card that I very rarely use

You have to be regularly spending money on the card before they will refund the fee.

so I ended up canceling a card that I didnt really want to cancel lol

          You can always apply again.

      • Who says Foxtel makes people watch MORE tv? They could watch it instead of free to air.

Also, you voted down a bargain simply because you think people watch too much TV. It's still a bargain, your opinion makes it no different. Vote on the basis of the bargain, not your opinions. Looking through your vote history seems to see similar stories.

      • get off your computer and out into the sunshine cakesy!

  • is it for optus feat foxtel as well?

    • i doubt it…

You could always just try it on Sunday and see if it works…

      • phuk yeah just tried it works on optus feat fox dig in syd

    thanks for posting OP!

Not really a bargain tho, but more of a community announcement

  • i got all excited until I saw the last line

*HD ‘Movie Network’ channels are not included - FAIL!!!!!

recording SD movies to watch later on a IQ2 box is like filling a modern sportscar with unleaded fuel with 10% ethanol.

    • Is your modern sportscar turbocharged?

Ethanol contains about 34% less energy per unit volume than petrol, but has a higher octane rating. So up your boost, increase your compression ratio and get equal power with slightly lower economy, but cheaper petrol. If you are getting a better than 3.4% less for E10 than normal petrol, you are getting a bargain.

      • -4

Ethanol contains about 34% less energy per unit volume than petrol

That doesnt matter, comparing E10 to regular petrol the difference in energy is minimal.

        E10 has 33.18MJ of energy per L
        Regular petrol has 34.2 MJ/L

If you are getting a better than 3.4% less for E10 than normal petrol, you are getting a bargain.

Without modifying your car in any way as long as E10 is cheaper by more than 3.4% you are getting a bargain

        • -4

I don't disagree with what you said at all.

I was just pointing out for sarbz's benefit that value for money for E10 in an equal performance setup is still generally better value.

With no modifications there is a small amount of power loss which someone in a 'modern sportscar' might care about, but I sure don't.

  • @JV: recordings will work after end date of promo,

@sarbs: why would you want to record in HD? takes up a huge portion of your memory..

as for someone saying earlier they should get upgraded for free since their on original STU's, that wont happen its a standard fee even the people who work at foxtel paid for IQHD upgrades.

    • I can tell you 100% that complaining about your crappy STU will get you an upgrade, had my one replaced with the IQ HD for free!!

  • Austar?

  • My dad was going to get Austar a few years ago but they couldn't give us all the channels we actually wanted, so until (and if ever) that day comes austar = poo for us.

    • I thought foxtel and austar had the same channels?

  • similar not completely, as for what "dvestate" said,
pretty retarded remark, a unit that is valued well over $500 as an rtp by the company isnt going to be given to any tom dick and harry just cause they complain about an STU, its a standard fee for any customer new or existing.
may aswell go to bmw and complain that my cars old i wouldnt mind myself a 320ci for free if thats how companies make a living.

  • yeah well you actually can get upgraded for free.. its like getting upgraded in internet allowance on bigpond. they lessend the price $20 per month for me and gave me 40gb more

  • This includes HD versions of the channels if you are subscribed to a HD package.

    • Well I was wrong, it was the case in the past when this offer was last on.

  • Not working for anyone else? Can't get any of the showtime channels.

    • Read the information posted for the deal, you do not need to read very far before you see the answer.

  • +2

Follow the link to the Foxtel site at the top of the page for the movie channels included. Showtime channels are not included.

HD channels not included either, even if your an existing HD subscriber who doesn't normally get movies.
