Vittoria Coffee Beans 1kg $12 (Normally $19) @ Woolworths

110

Hi all. Dropped past woolies last night to grab some free bags and noticed the coffee on special. Either ground or bean packs available.

Haven't seen it on any other posts but I apologise if it's a dupe.

At $12 a kg it looks like cheapest it's bean for a long time :)

Restraunts and cafes use these too - I heard this from a reliable source.

      • I feel Vittoria Coffee Beans are sweeter than other brand coffee beans.

        No, terrible.

    Yes, coffee bean.

Who cares about the coffee, which store had the free hags ?

    • Haha oops

Personally, I would take Aldi's dark roast blend at $11.50 any day over this. They seem to be much fresher, use by date is apparently 1 year and 3 months, that can help you to determine the roast date.

    • 11.99 I thought? I have no grinder so resort to preground stuff

      • You might be right about that. Also it's definitely worth investing in a grinder, you can get a good one for about $100-$150.

Same here. We got this coffee Vittoria coffee once (on special) and threw it out. Aldi coffee is much better, and they now have new single origin versions which are even better.

      • Damn, even though I shop at Aldi i haven't tried their coffee beans. Will pick some up today.

    • +1

yep I find Aldi stuff freshest and minimum drinkable quality.

    • Also agree, so much. Cannot believe how good the Aldi beans are for the price. I take the medium roast as I like quite a strong flat white (24g basket into a small cup)

While it's obviously not as good as your local roasters fresh batch coming in at $30-35/kg, at $11.50/kg it's seriously hard to beat, especially if you or your household go through a lot of coffee.

How's the dark compare to the medium?

      • +1

I haven't tried the medium, I prefer a really strong, bold coffee as I drink black. To be honest these are still a pretty light roast. But for $11.50 a kg I can't complain, it's a perfectly acceptable coffee.

I buy Coles brand coffee beans and can get a surprisingly good coffee out of it. I find Vitorria better but only marginally.
One weird thing was I not only had to set the grinder to '0' for a finer grind, but had to adjust the grinder for a less than zero finer grind. So much so that it was metal on metal and I had to back it off.
Not sure if it was Vittoria beans in general or just that batch.

Don't like these beans at all. Seem to get bitter/thin coffee outcomes.

Odd - because some of their other options - their regular beans and the 'Organic' - produce quite a decent standard of coffee (grind-at-home + espresso machine).

This is not the normal Vittoria, but their cheaper "Italian Blend", and $12 is the frequent discount price.

I much prefer their other coffee. The regular blends are $28, but the "premium" (tastes the same to me) ones are currently on special for $18:

    a better buy IMHO.

    • Totally agree. The 'Italian Blend' are among the worst I've had - they lack the full rich flavor.

You're much better off getting these when they are sale for $18:

    • agree, the mountain grown makes an excellent latte, to my tastes, either if you buy the beans whole or ground. picked up a 4-pack of the ground 250gm vacuum sealed ones the other day, should be a few months of nice coffee. as always, try to get the youngest beans you can find so they haven't dried out as much as the ones that have sat on the shelves for a few months :)

Don't waste your money. Aldi datk roast far better than this or many $30+ coffees

    • Agree, I bought this before and ended up throwing it out. Aldi is my regular. Best price/taste by far.

  • Life is too short for bad coffee

  • great coffee if you want to go cold turkey on caffeine

And Starbucks for when you’re on the road

  • Maan. There's so many good deals on bags of coffee beans. I got a bag of the aldi beans and they smell delicious, but I just can't make good espresso. I got the Delonghi Dedica in the recent deal but I can't get it to work- I tried many things including getting a grinder, adjusting the weight, tamp force, making the portafilter naked etc etc.. I always end up with either thin and bitter or oily and sour. The Aldi pods taste better and have a nice crema. I'm thinking it's the machine, in that it wasn't intended to do what I want from it. Can anbody recommend a really good espresso machine?

Breville Dual Boiler is really good value for money.

But I believe the machine which is capable of making decent shot from supermarket coffee is not invented yet. ;)

On a serious note: try good fresh beans with your machine first.
Unfortunately most of the time "good fresh" is opposite to "supermarket" coffee.

"thin"… "bitter"… I believe you are describing stale beans.

For a comparison next time Two Cracks Coffee runs a deal get a 1 kilo bag - it will be $30-$35.

In the end let me quote Breville Support:
"Just remember, you will never get good results if you buy coffee with a "use by" or "best by" date on the bag as you never know when it was roasted."

      • I get fantastic shots on my racillio using Aldi dark roast. Excellent proper thick crema unlike pods.
