FREE Nokia E65 on Optus $19 cap plan!

200

As of tomorrow, Optus world is offering for who knows how long, the Nokia E65 free on the Optus $19 cap plan!! Thats $456 paid over 24 months at $19 including $50 free calls every month, free calls to other optus customers 8pm-12am every day for 20min, free 5min calls to other mobiles on the same bill (family member with existing plan, put this new phone on their bill to get free calls).

Considering a brand new Nokia E65 is $375 whilst most places are selling it at $450-$650, this is a very good plan even if you just want a new phone (and free mobile internet whereever there is a free WIFI hotspot) ;) or just use it as a VOIP phone at home to make free skype calls. This is a seriously good deal!

  • Where's the info about free Wifi and free Skype calls? Direct links preferred…

  • Not sure about the Optus network, but on the Three network definitely has Skype calls as the phone comes pre-loaded with Skype when you sign up to the x series: http://xseries.three.com.au/xseries/index.shtml. However you still need to pay for the data usage - so technically its not free. Re WIFI - the phone definitely has WIFI capabilities. Go to the Nokia website if you want more info on the phone - http://www.nokia.com.au/A4519195

IMHO it is quite a good phone for people who want more than just a phone to make calls.

    • Skype via Three's X-Series is actually a iSkoot client so not technically a Skype client.

You can use software like Fring or Gizmo Project to make VoIP calls when you are inside Wifi, so effectively "free" calls to other VoIP users.

  • Tbis phone is also avaliable at Strathfield Car Radios!

I asked them about it and they said they would give me a free bluetooth as well! this was Sydney City strathfield,.

  • Do you reckon you could get onto this plan and get the phone for free, then swap the sim card into my current phone and sell the E65 on ebay? (eventhough it will be locked, maybe get it unlocked cheaply?)

    • AFAIK Optus do not lock their phones on cap plans as I have a N80 on the 49 CAP and it is not locked and so is my wife's N73 but you better check first although I am pretty sure they are unlocked but branded "which you can change easily by a firmware upgrade with a code change"

  • Hmm, when going to the optus site and choosing the $19 cap plan with the Nokia E65 it says it costs $15 a month. Is it possible they haven't updated the site?

  • yeah the website is very often quite behind.

Euskadi- yeah u should be able to dol that

  • I think this phone is cheap for a reason….

I'd stay away. ALOT of complaints!

    • Note that Editor gives 8.3/10, but users are currently rated at 6.5/10. From what I've heard, the recent builds have much lower quality than the first few batches (lower quality material I heard). Well it is an old phone. Free Nokia N73 with Three's $29 cap is a better deal IMHO :)

  • Or even a Nokia 6500 which is a cross between a 6280 & N73 (the Carl Zeiss lens). The 6500 is available from Optus on the $19 twin pack.

Alternatively the 6110 (GPS) is available from Vodafone on their $29 jumbo cap.

  • Thanks for this, I went out and got one of these deals yesterday.

  • yeah so did someone I know, went out to get it on Saturday. So far no problems with it. For me, I have one of these too and its hardly ever crashed on me.

  • But u guys take note… the charge rate per minute is even more expensive than the normal optus prepaid….

  • Great timing as my previous contract just expired.

Went and picked up one of these yesterday - I was already on optus so just upgraded and kept the same sim card and phone number.

Great bargain for $19 a month and a free phone.

Charge rate is expensive - double that of prepaid - but then you got $50 free calls - so can think of it as having equivalent of $25 of free calls

    Thanks for the heads up

  • Proud - did u have any problemsw with your handset?

  • It says in the terms that you are not able to check the balance until your bill arrives which is a definite deal-breaker for me. I've always been on prepaid, and it's so hard to change the habit of knowing your balance whenever you want

A good deal for those who like Plans though
