Looking for a 2TB HDD for My Laptop

Hey guys,

I have a Dell 7577 and I was looking to add a HDD to it (currently only has an SSD). From my understanding, I need a 2.5" slim HDD, right? Any specific recommendations other than that?

I've had a look for some deals, but I can't seem to find any at the moment.

Thanks for your help!

    from reddit;
"any 2.5" drive that is labeled SLIM. there are two thicknesses for laptop drives. The thicker ones will not fit."

See link for other things to consider. Nothing too major.

    I'm assuming you don't want to drop $1k on a 2TB SSD.

I'm looking at upgrading my hard drive in my Small Form Factor PC.. I'm looking at a Seagate FireCuda 2TB SSHD 2.5"

It's not as fast as a SSD, but should boot up faster than a standard hard drive.

    • I was thinking of getting one of those as well, but it doesn't seem to be a slim HDD, so I'm guessing it wont fit?

        7mm is slim

        • Oh, nice! Thanks for letting me know. :)

If you want faster boot up times, you can get a small 128GB/256GB SSD to use as boot disk and a second 2TB drive for storage. With how cheap SSDs are now ($50 for a 128GB one), unless you have no space in the case, I think that plus a cheap 2TB drive might actually be cheaper overall than a 2TB FireCuda.

        It's a laptop.

        • Sorry, was replying re your comment and not OP's:

        • @HighAndDry:

ok gotcha… that's a good point, I never thought about but I prefer 1 drive just for ease of maintence.

          A 2.5inch 2TB FireCuda is only about $15 more than a 2TB 2.5inch 5400rpm Barracuda.

Come to think of it, I may get a 3.5" FireCuda SSHD, which should be faster than the 2.5inch FireCuda.

Here are the specs on the drive.

Are you saying your laptop can hold 2 HDD's? or are you replacing the SSD with a HDD?

    • +1

I think the Dell has a M.2 SSD, and an empty 2.5" SSD/HDD slot.

    • It's able to hold an SSD and a HDD. I currently have a 256gb SSD in it, but it's not enough storage for my games etc, so I wanted to add a HDD.

  • why not just got for sshd which just costs slightly more than a normal hdd and slight descrease in speed performance when comparing to ssd but you do get the benefit of of larger capacity. my 2c…
