Just an opinion, I'd go the Harmony 650 over this one. As the position of remote control buttons above the touch screen make it a problem at times controlling and not hitting that touch screen. Unless you need to control more items than the 650, and the rechargeable option is a must.

    • Thanks for that. I have a 650 which still works. So I'll leave it

Would the 650 be a worthwhile upgrade from my old 350? Seems like cheapest eBay price would be $51.30 with the code

Yes, the extra button options on the 650s LCD screen are super helpful, well to me, maybe not to you, consider it. You also get control of more devices.

You'll be punching yourself in the face for buying this, after you waste a day setting it up to find it is near unusable.

Spend $100 less and get the 650, or $100 more and get the Elite.

    • Agreed, you want it to at least come with the Smart Hub at this price, to gain the RF over IR advantage over a 650.

    • I had a 650 and the buttons on the side of the screen stopped working. Bit of a bummer since they are the buttons to change the devices you are controlling.

      • This is a fact of life with the 650, in that eventually, random buttons WILL fail. I generally have to buy a new one every 18-24 months.

Sadly, there are no viable alternatives that have as many buttons on the remote. :(

        • Geez, that seems like a bit of a dealbreaker 😕

      • Same here butI got about 4 years out of it, still using it as I reprogram it as the buttons fail, down to the last two and their are dying too.

One issue I have with it is the software doesn't allow you to change the device order without deleting and adding. I changed my TV, so delete all the devices insert TV at #1, add each other device back. That can be a pain when you have to teach the 650 each command by hand for devices that it doesn't know.

    • Just enable touchscreen lock.

    • How about the Harmony Companion with Hub, for those that have home automation/ Hues/ Lifx products, this all in one allows for IR and wifi signals to be controlled via remote, or optionally via your smart phone: currently at 157.50 via PLATYPUS
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/123033038973

      • The Companion with Hub is a much better option than the Ultimate.

I occasionally use a Companion when I forget to recharge the Elite (they both connect to the same Hub).

The remote feels great in the hand, and the button layout and battery life is excellent, however, it does not have back-lit keys, a dedicated help button, or a screen.

This means you lose the ability to assign extra commands, and can never be sure what activity you are in (unless you check the phone app), and if something does go wrong, you will have to use the app on a phone or tablet to use the help.

  • Great remote! Got one when DSE was closing down for $20 and still using it. I miss that sale.

I had this one and was so frustrated with the bad placement of the touch screen and the buttons. I ended up replacing it with the Harmony Elite and have never looked back.

    • Thanks! I was going to replace my ageing Harmony One with this, but sounds like I'll dodge a bullet and get the Elite.

  • This remote annoys me. Functionality wise it's fine but i hate the stupid rounded back on it. Every time you place it down on a hard surface it wobbles back and forth for 10secs and makes an annoying noise. It's also hard to pickup without accidentally pressing something on the touch screen. The non rounded Harmony Elite would be worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

  • Is there a cheap way to get the remote if you already have the hub? I have a non-backlit remote, but it's really hard to use in the dark.

  • The button positioning could be better. I’ve never had an issue with it and I’m used to it now. I got one at the DSE clearance sale. I also agree the elite and 650 have far better button positioning

  • Got one at the DSE closing sale. Literally just taken it out of the box - looks pretty good on its dock.

  • Not sure why people are having so much trouble with this. I've had mine a year and it's great. The key is to enable swipe to unlock the touchscreen, as you only need it unlocked to power on and off or to change activities. Locking the touchscreen prevents unwanted taps and you can execute regular commands with the physical buttons.

    • I tried the workaround with the screen lock too, but then you lose easy access to the touchscreen features like activities / numberpad / favourite channels / extra command buttons / help button / menu etc.

…and it still doesn't solve the issue of the position of the playback buttons at the top of the remote - I found I had to constantly shift the remote in my hand, or actually use my index finger to press play and pause lol!

      • I guess I don't use my touchscreen as much as others. Of course there's a physical menu button too - I don't use the extra commands or the help function enough to find swipe to unlock annoying.

As for play/pause I'm OK with shifting the remote in my hand. There are harder things in life!
