Does new customer mean a new service even if I have had a service with them in the past?

    • I wondered that as well.

      • Thank you ☺️

    • +2

I've ported out my number from amaysim then ported back in 24 hours later and still treated as a new customer.

That's pretty iffy but if you genuinely don't have an active service with amaysim now I can't see why they would deny you a new service. A customer is a customer, $8.49 revenue is better than $0 revenue!

      • OK, sounds promising. With the Telstra deals new customer usually means new service. It's only a few dollars so not much to lose.

      • Good to know. I ported from amaysim to Belong on Tue and was wondering if I'd be treated as a new customer too.

      • hey,
would you mind sharing which provider did you ported in and out ?
        Cheers

        • +1

It was a while ago but I think it might've been Kogan.

The important thing — if you want the port out/in to be quick — is to port to a non-Optus telco/MVNO. i.e. Telstra, Vodafone, or one of their MVNOs. Optus to Optus ports can take days.

        • thanks :)

    • +2

Usually means new service with other providers. For example, many of us have used the Kogan deals many times.

      • Yerrrrrp

    • I managed to apply the code after logging in, seems to be for "new service".

*I didn't actually go through with the purchase since I got this deal for someone else without consoling then.

  • +1

Any excess costs like data, or is it prepaid?

  • Got one, cheers TA

    • +25

What do you expect for $1.41 per month.

  • +4

    Optus network

  • Once this deal finishes if it is only as a spare then as you go is cheaper (as in free unless you call). If you attach the phone to an existing account then you can leave it inactive for years.

  • any special on $30 plans?

  • I bought two, but they only give 15% discount for 1 :(

    • +3

Thats why you order on 2 different accounts :)

  • Perfect as a secondary call/text sim.

  • Oh hood, a good deal to replace my 10-year old Virgin post-paid thingy ($15 with 6 month expiry).

I take I need to contact Virgin to port my number to Amaysim?

    • No, just port unless you are still under contract

  • Thank you

  • +4

This is exactly what I want! Work perfectly with the Vodafone 35GB data plan for $1 for six months previously. Worked out for less than $10 for six months! (PS. of course you need a dual sim card phone.)

    • +2

      Or two devices.

  • +7

Tempted again to waste money on something I don't need

  • +4

Thanks TA, Legend! Shopback paid $2.11.

    • +1

Yep $1.06 per month with shopback 25% cashback

      • +12

Use who ever the hell you want.

Last I checked this was ozbargain where people go to save money, not the cult of TA where people suggest to pay extra to line his pockets.

You're welcome to, but what a scummy thing to suggest to people that they owe TA charity rather than save money.

  • -1

So would these all be activated at once or?

  • +4

Lol Groupon have become smarter. $9.95 so no referral credit (min $10 for ref credit )

  • +4

$6.37 with shopback 25% cashback on goods so around $1.05 per month

    • -7

not very gd to advertise shopback in TA's post as he's working at cashrewards lololololol

      • +10

Oh well we are all here to save money

      • +9

This is ozbargain. Not TA's a pretty good bloke, cashrewards is now the official cashback partner. You need to cater to your audience and what are we here for again? It's what they do with this feedback that will set them apart. I have been a longtime CR supporter, because there wasn't much else. It's just when you become complacent and you can make as many excuses as you want justifying whatever, but you have to look a little bit deeper and look at what you're really trying to do here. Talking with actions and not words.

        • +1

          nice reply

        • +3

I think shopback have already proven themselves being a solid competitor in the cashback scene. They came in solid and ready for competition. They had the app already developed and tested. I do feel they are more organised and knew what they were up for before they entered the Australian market.

I wouldnt be surprised if shopback is backed by google, amazon or one of the bigger internet players

TA is a top bloke, no doubt but in his position at CR, he has targets and KPI's to meet. At the end of the day it's business as usual

        • @easternculture: It's good that both have succeeded unlike your outfit.

        • @Clear:

          unlike your outfit.

          You'll never know mate 😉

We all have our own definition of success, it's not all about what you do or how much you earn 👍

      • If you can also get shopback then a list should be provided and not just cashrewards. If cashrewards is the only one then its part of stacking deals and a win for everyone.

    • +1

-$1.49 with Groupon "LAST" promo code
      -$0.42 Cashrewards Groupon cashback
      -$3.00 Cashrewards Amaysim Mobile cashback
      = $4.91 savings

      =$5.04 for 6 months service.

      • How to get $3 cashrewards amaysim cashback with this offer?

      • Are you sure Cashrewards will honour the $3.00 Cashrewards Amaysim Mobile cashback if you use a Groupon coupon code when making your purchase?

Usually codes not listed on the Cashrewards website void cashbacks.

You might want to double check with TA.

        • +1

Hi prxy. At the end of the day amaysim decides, but from the terms I'd suggest no (this from amaysim merchant page on Cashrewards)…

Cashback is not payable when using coupon code/s not listed on Cashrewards

and, Purchases not eligible for cashback (see 3rd one down):

          amaysim refer-a-friend (RAF) sales.
amaysim broadband services (please visit amaysim Broadband page).
Exclusive amaysim partner promos and/or various special promos outlined from time to time.

        • @ prxy

          I beg to differ

Last time round with groupon amaysim offer, i got $15 amaysim CB approved and paid

I would recommend you still try and it might go through

        • @easternculture:

I guess it doesn't hurt to try but as TA has written Cashrewards could refuse as per amaysim merchant page on Cashrewards.

With this deal when we purchase the amaysim service we are actually using a unique Groupon/Amaysim code that isn't listed on the Cashrewards website.

Prior to your post I wouldn't have held out much hope BUT fingers crossed :-)

        • @prxy:

i didn't have any hope but i have nothing to loose.

i tried and it paid off $15

  • Thanks 6 months sorted

  • Can you combine this with refer a friend?

  • Any way to grab it if you already on this plan 1G, unlimited calls) as an existing cust without porting out??

  • +1

Anyone aware of cheap/free sims that I can port out of amaysim to?

  • can we use vochouer to exisiting amaysim number?

    • I believe not but haven't tried

    • -1

      vochouer

Sorry never heard of this before.

  • +4

How come I forgot to apply the code! Damn..

  • Get a Lyca Sim card. Upto 5 for free on their website. That's what I use to port numbers in and out

  • +1

Does anyone know if this deal auto-renews every 28 days, or do you have to manually apply a renewal every 28 days?
And if it is the latter, can you "renew" sooner than 28 days for a new 1GB data?

    • +3

It will automatically renew. But I found this auto-renew thingy very dodgy because they actually renew on the 28th day. So we lose one day every renewal.

    • +1

Auto renewal during the amaysim 3-month Groupon deal late last year, so should be the same now as well.

  • Worthwhile noting goes back to $10/28 days thereafter and have to opt-out/cancel plan

  • Can I buy 2 and stack them to make it last 12 months?

  • Why are people looking at getting a free sim from other Telcos to use with this, when this one comes with one?

    • +7

Because amaysim's SIM arrives activated if you choose a new number during redemption, and so you lose 2-7 days usage (delivery time) plus however long you delay the activation. amaysim's SIM does not arrive activated if you choose to port a number during redemption, and so you get the full benefit of the plan even if you redeem today but activate on 31 July.

      • +1

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. Well I wasted that usage then by getting the free Amaysim-sim, and I also would have preferred to activate it later :(

Hope this helps someone else from making the mistake I did.

        • +3

I've added this info to the description. I hope it will be helpful. (I made this comment so I won't appear stupid by my own edit.)

      • Can you chose to port and then change your mind and get new number?

        • +1

I don't know, you'll have to ask amaysim. When you redeem the Groupon voucher and select number porting, you have to nominate an existing mobile number and then amaysim records that mobile number with the SIM card number that it'll send. Your existing mobile number is printed on amaysim's welcome letter and you don't get a chance to change to another mobile number in the final activation IIRC. I don't recall anyone have discussed changing their minds about porting versus new number.

    • I'm already an amaysim customer. If I leave then I'd no longer be a customer and can port my number back for this deal.

  • Can’t redeem until 1st of July.
Current plan with optus runs out on 5/7. Hopefully sim will arrive on time…

    • Why not? Redeem before: 23 Jul 2018

      • Tried to redeem today but system denied my request. Talked to customer service and was advised that I can't use the groupon voucher until 1st of July.

    • Ah. Just found out the actual reason.
I have another plan with amaysim which hasn’t been activate yet.

  • Thanks OP. Remind me in 6 months of new deals

  • has 1 month left on Catch connect, guess i have to pass

I suppose we can we stop auto data top up?

    • -1

      ****• Excess data charged at $0.072/MB or $10/1GB*** , that's the catch!

    • +4

The UNLIMITED 1GB and UNLIMITED 2.5GB plans will not be switched to the casual data rate if you run out of data. In these instances you'll need to wait until your plan has renewed, or add a data top-up in order to continue using data.

  • As 0180 mentioned can we stop auto data top up on this plan and also can we change payment method to not auto-renew?

I think in the past you had an option of changing payment method to vouchers/coupons or something is that still the case?

    • +2

      https://www.amaysim.com.au/help/mobile/plans-and-network/wha…

Each time a plan is added (or re-added) to an account, auto-renew is switched ON by default. This means you'll need to manually switch auto-renew off once a new renewal period has started if you do not want to renew your plan. This can be done at any point through the amaysim app or My amaysim.

      • If you switch off Auto-Renew will this also stop the "Auto-Renewal" of the six included months we have paid for with this groupon coupon?

Would changing the payment method to BPay like jackofspade has suggested below be a safer way to stop auto payments after the six months are up?

        • +1

It didn't stop the renewal of the three included months during the last amaysim+groupon deal. If you are worried then simply set a calendar alert for the last renewal period or change to BPay as suggested below.

    • +1

      You can change to bpay

      • thanks

  • Is there a Shopping Cart in Groupon? I just signed up, clicked on 2 of the amaysim card packages, hit purchase then it redirected to paypal. I clicked back by accident and now it won't let me purchase them. When I go into help, it lists the item as Payment Unsuccessful, but has no way (that I can see) to actually change payment menthod or details.

Trying to reorder new ones says 'limit reached for this product'

    Cheers

    • When this has happened to me in past, I've contacted Groupon and they've sorted it

      • Cheers. Its weekend though and the only contact method i could find was phone call mon-fri. Not sure when this deal runs out?

  • +1

grr bloody groupon. Tried with both paypal and putting my credit card details in directly, nothing. Contacted live support, they say its because groupon is listed as an international company and my credit card has blocked payments to them. Said to try again in 6 hours. I asked what if the deal expires before then, and they basically said 'tough shit'

edit: Okay, its good. Tried again with a non-28-degrees cc and it went through fine.

    • Paypal and 28 degree went fine for me just now

  • +2

    Thanks OP
Saves my wife and I $100 over 6 months. We are both on the $10 / month plan currently.

  • +1

Did anyone encountered error in purchasing this deal? I used paypal but paypal refunded my purchase. Any advice?

  • +1

does this renew 6 times , 1Gb each month and then you start paying after that?
