Just a general tax deduction. Need to call work and clients on it sometimes. Need to be contactable in an emergency.
Pretty sure you're not allowed to claim that item as an expense. Should be claiming depreciation only and only a percentage that is used for work purposes. For most people, it's going to be under 50% work usage. If you depreciate it over 3 years to $0, you might be able to claim 50% of 33% per year or about $227. ATO has been cracking down on this in the past few years.
Of course it's a self assessment and you claim whatever you want, but if you get caught, it's pretty ordinary.
Can u do a depreciation of full amount on the first year?
Also how do you take into consideration of needing the phone because it’s necessary for work? Fair enough you can’t claim 100%.@Frugal: In theory you are supposed to have sample call logs to demonstrate what % you use for work.
ATO may expect a phone to last 2-3yrs so depreciating in 1 year might get their attention.
In the old days (10yrs ago) you could write off a laptop each year…$20k immediate write off for business related items. Ending this financial year (in a day).

@dangerdanger: That's for small businesses, right?
@sitdowndisco:
Yes. Not personal taxes. Op has small business? Not sure. If smart, they'd buy under the small business and be done with it.Thanks! What I needed to know. Cheers guys!
@Gandalf the Thrifty:
lots of phones are written off within 2 years rather than depreciated longer than 2 years.they are then disposed of at the written off price …..
this price is different to the cash balance for gumtree sales ….
unlike android phones, apple phones retain their street value after 2 years which is above the accounting value of written off after 2 years.
doesn’t work with most android ….my android street value is 1/4 what i paid after 2 years.
@dangerdanger: Extended for another year.
@techboy:
Really?! Great!!!! Can't google it now, but do you have a link?@dangerdanger:
Yes wife is self employed and has a ABN@techboy:
This is not yet in law, for 2018-2019. Hopefully it will be!@Roary:
Might be immediate tax write-off then, depending on your accountant. Well done
I know you probably dont want to hear this but ausluck has it for $1,479.00 on ebay. With the 10% off voucher (if still active) comes to $1331.10.

I picked mine up with the 15% off capped for $1279 the other day. Good quick delivery.
On the plus side its in your wifes hands now and she has a shiny new toy :) … Hopefully that alone will get you some mileage :)
That one says it has a 12 month Apple One warranty. I believe official A tick stock has 24 month warranty. So I am confused if this is an AU phone or not.
Pretty sure Apple has a "Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty" however can in most cases be disputed under Consumer Law so likely AUSLUCK is Australian Stock.
However, side note good luck getting OW to match eBay coupon offers as it clearly states what's excluded - "Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)" Some get lucky!
Here's a side deal for the Black/Space Grey version.
Funnily enough AusLuck have the Black/Space Grey 64GB at $1479 on eBay and $1429 on their website.
Link directly from Ausluck's website so OW should have no problems price matching - $1429 then 5% $1357https://www.ausluck.com.au/APPLE-iPHONE-X-64GB-SPACE-GREY-UN…
That one sounds like a grey import
100% AUSTRALIAN STOCKS
No mention of any manufactures warranty or being Australian A tick. Just means its already imported into Australia
Can always pricematch OW for $1376:

Yep. The $83 saving seams to be definitely worth waiting 9months to get one!
don't know how you got $83, but a new one is definitely coming <3 months.
iphone x 256gb $1699 @ Myer, if use woolworths egift card buy Myer gift card, plus 2% cashback @cashrewards, the final price is about $1415
Yes. Just got JB Hifi to price match so that I can use my gift card…. :-)
Jb would not price match for me today. Would you be able to share a photo of our reciept? Thanks
a little confused here. so i'm looking at other phones, some say 'au stock', some say optus, telstra, etc. what exactly does it mean?
au stock normally means a grey import thats already here in Australia. Optus, Telstra means the phone came from that company and generally has the company's bloat ware pre-installed. Unsure if its networked locked. Someone else would know this better.
Apple has no carrier bloatware.
no bloat ware ….. optus and telstra stock means you get 2 years apple australia warranty (1 year for grey import) any issues take into a telstra store (some keep loan phones) or go into apple genius bar, if it’s not a cracked screen or water damage they fix under warranty ….often get replacement on the day depending on model and supply.
apple support at genius bar is great …it’s why people pay a premium for apple.
u can got 256G Au stock for this price
