Parking Ticket Officers Allowed to Park Non-Stopping Zone?

When I got a parking ticket for stopping at non-stopping sign, I asked the local council for a photo for evidence.

The photo was taken from behind my car where another car was parked at the time, at non-stopping zone as well.

Can parking ticket officers park at non-stopping zone legally and be waiting for anyone to book?
The car was not painted or mentioned as authorized parking ticket officers vehicles. Thanks..

Thanks everyone, yes I already paid this fine.
Don’t understand why some people think it’s okay even they are not police officers. I will talk to city council about those ticket officers anyway.
What I think is they should park their car somewhere else and then get out the car walk around to do their job that’s how they are paid for by our tax. or they should pay fines as well.

I simply wanted to know and make sure if they are allowed under any laws and also what you guys think before I talk to the city council. I will go back there and try to take a photo of them.. Thank you! Bye.

No, but it’s not going to get you out of paying the fine.

Who's going to fine them if they do?

      Coast guard

        I was thinking Paw Patrol

        • It’s ok guys - Chase is on the case.

I had the same argument with a parking officer once and he became extremely aggressive, extremely quickly - he then told me to move my car around the corner, (he moved his also) he then gave me a warning. It gave me the feeling he shouldn't have parked in the no stopping area either. (it was a time limited size and we were just outside of the permitted stopping times)

  • The tow truck will also have to come to a halt to hook up your vehicle.
Are you suggesting you shouldn't pay the fine because the only way to 'catch' you is by also doing the wrong thing?

  • The ticket has your details on it, not the parking guy's, so just get that sorted.

I'm no fan of theirs, but his parking has no bearing on the offence you've got the ticket for.

  • I love these “but the ticketing officer was parked illegally, so does that mean my ticket is invalid” posts.

No, it makes no difference how they are parked, they ARE the law. It’s like cops using mobile phones while driving, they are exempt in certain situations. I would imagine the ticketing officer would be the same. While ever they are performing their duties, there would be nothing you could leverage against them to make you feel vindicated.

Had this happen to a freind once.

Took a photo of the officer parking ilegally and made a nice phone call to council.

The officer came back 30 mins later and cancelled the ticket. (Pretty sure he got reamed by his boss) - Win

That officer checked the area religiously for 6 months - Big loss

  • you should fight this in the High Court of Australia, because it is the "vibe" of the thing.

you parked incorrectly, deal with it.
    pay the fine

  • IF it doesn’t have any markings on it how can you be sure it’s the parking inspectors car and not some other punter he has caught..?

  • I don't understand the point of this OP post. Statement. I parked illegally and got caught. Pay up. That is life. My partner stopped to drop off child, but was in no standing. Pinned. You only do it once and she is a driver by the book. Never had any speeding or driving offences. The parking inspector for sure targeted parents on that day. All you could do is send council picture of other car and if it was a marked council car they would be told off, but that doesnt mean you get off the fine. OP annoyed they got caught. No comment from them wonder why.

Because he's trying to get off on a technicality. Happens all the time.

      • Are you saying two wrongs don’t make a right??

  • Can parking ticket officers park at non-stopping zone legally and be waiting for anyone to book?

    Practically, yes.

    Seriously?

You're talking about the most revered citizens of the small streets - The Parking Officer

Now, they're no Highway Patrol but it doesn't take an apex predator to hunker down on the antelope… well, cash cow in this case.

  • they can for the same reason police cars can park in disabled parking and double park and basically do whatever they please, they're exempt from the law
