If you edit lots of photos in Lightroom, this could be a handy tool for you. Instead of adjusting sliders with your mouse, you can quickly dial in edits with the hardware knobs, dials, and buttons. You won't have to take your eyes off the screen while adjusting your settings.

Here's a review.

There are alternative solutions (e.g. with MIDI2LR/PFixer and a controller like the X-Touch Mini or BCR2000) which can work great too, this is just an all-in-one packaged solution with a controller that was designed with the Lightroom UI in mind, rather than a generic MIDI controller. Here's a long video comparing the two methods.

This is the cheapest it has been. The Loupedeck+ was announced last week, so the price for this one dropped. It was US$299 when it was released last year. The new model uses mechanical switches, allows more customization, adds support for Capture One and Skylum, and a few other bits.

The Loupedeck+ is available from B&H for US$229 + US$25.50 shipping.

There's only a few days left before GST on imports kicks in!

Yup, after that you can still buy it from B&H for US$179 + US$25.50 shipping + GST.

The + Version is much better and worth paying the small extra

  • I had no idea these existed. Interesting. I'm a massive fan of tactile peripherals…

  • The novelty wears off after an hour.

    • Is it as simple as opening an image and dialing in your tune? It is there lots of fiddly simultaneous mouse clicking required?

As someone who has issues after 20 years of digital design, I can see this being a nice input for mixing things up, but only if it's fairly seamless…

      • As with everything, it's subjective. For some people it might be a novelty, for others it's a big time-saver and makes editing more 'fun'. It does look seamless from the videos on youtube, but not all the controls are on it, just the most frequently-used ones.

  • Alternatively, you can buy Behringer X-Touch Mini + MIDI2LR.

Cost around 80$ for the controller & the app is free. But not at nice as this controller. Good price though.

    • Yeah, I mentioned that in the post.

This of course has more controls and is laid out nicely since it's purpose-built, but it does cost more. Some people have no qualms about spending $3k on a camera and another $5k on lenses though, so something like this would be a no-brainer to them.
