I think it's crucial we buy these drives

Feel sick that the price of SSDs changes so much in a few weeks. I bought the Crucial MX500 250GB one for $157 last week, and now I regret it. My best deal this month was the 250GB Kingston SSD for $47.

    • I feel a bit the same even though my timeframe is longer. I bought a 500gb MX500 in March for $175.20 and thought it was a bloody steal, and now they're almost $50 cheaper.

…I might as well buy another haha

    • Same here but 960 Samsung SSD 500GB @ 210, now it's going for 145. :(

It dropped 30-50% in the month since I bought it.

      • Sweet.. 2 tb will be 100 soon :)

        • +1

Going to be weird when everything runs off SSD memory. Imagine the world's vibration count suddenly zeroes out and the world gets blown up. Servers are loud, vibrating and heat-wasted things.

      • 960 samsung 500gb for $145? link? thats an instabuy

        • It was up on OzBargain maybe 1 week ago. Probably done by now, but it was definitely dirt cheap.

      • SSDs are the new Bitcoin ;)

    • I've been wondering whats been taking them so long to come down in price. I grabbed a 1TB samsung 850 for $320 nearly 2 years ago, I would have expected them to be at least half that by now.

    • I bought the mx500 250gb for $90 two weeks ago…

As someone once said, “There’s never a good time to buy tech…”

  • Must resist… Just received another bill.

    • good price for a sata3 drive

but the speed is as good as it will get on sata 3

need to move to nvme m2 to get the highest speed..

so is it time, should I upgrade my PC?
      currently I don't have any pci-e m2 ports

      • Still have my MX300 750GB - US $105.09 (~AU $143). Will continue with that for the time being. Too many bills and finding it hard to sell things on feeBay.

MX500 is certainly faster than MX300, but I still see TLC NAND based SSDs as secondary SSDs. Still prefer MLC for primary / system boot drive (especially for m.2).

      • I just had to cancel an order for the M.2 as I thought it was pcie (happens when shopping using phone and not a PC and std browser and no glasses).

if you get the pci versions, you can get adapters cheap (under $10) and put into your old system ….when you get a new PC plug it into the M.2 pcie slot …..then enjoy the speed and space and bale savings.

        it's what I will be doing …

        • cool

got a link for the pci-e adapters?
how fast is the speed compared to the native m2 slots?

will most old pc boot OS from a pci-e adapter card?

I think some BIOS/UEFI don't have that option..

  • +2

Holy cow, someone finally found a m.2 version of it. Time to pull the trigger

    • +3

It's m.2 SATA3 though. Unless the form factor is important to you, might be best to stick with standard SATA3 for MX500 (for better heat dissipation, cheaper price and a more common interface).

      • yeah you need to get the 960/970 to get a improvement due to nvme tech

i don't see any benefit for going m2 mx500 since the speed is the same

        • how about this?

        • +3

Honestly saving 2 cables and having it tucked out of the way is nice for small / neat builds.

        • @Merlict: yeah but if you going m2, should go nvme for the big speed increase..
          this is just sata3 speed.

Also not everyone pc has this pci-e port
          so that is another problem.

        • @pinkybrain: Yep big ol' Sata3 drive would be better than a sata m.2. At least then you got some versatility with the lack of speed.

        • @pinkybrain: My PC only has PCIE ports, can you recommend a cheap PCI-e to M2 slot?

      • yep if using normal sata easier to stick with 2.5" format, if going M.2 then pci for the speed gains.

      • There's nothing close to this price in nvme/pcie though, yeah? My case is full of SSDs. There's no particular disadvantages about SATA3 m.2 compared to the 2.5" is there? It's just not nvme speeds…

    • M2 version is same speed as a sata 3..

  • I prefer m.2 as my build is SFF consisting of m.2 and 2x2.5".
M.2 will be my primary OS drive consisting of this 1tb SSD
    2.5" - Firecuda SSHD 2tb
2.5" - Seagate Barracuda 4tb (all my blueray rips)

    • +3

      cool.

  • ZOMG, 1TB SSD <$250…….how low can it go?????

  • Hmm,not sure wether to buy now or wait for further price drops. Been a huge price change over the last few months.

  • +3

its going lower and lower, I don't even know if these are actually bargains anymore

    • +3

That's the thing, just when you think the one you saw is cheap, another OZBer posted a slightly cheaper one, and so on…

    • Due to advances in fabrication, they said consumer SSDs were meant to dramatically fall in price in late 2018 anyway so I don't think it's necessary to jump on any deals for those forming a just-in-case collection.

Unless floods in Thailand or Antarctica or who knows where are predicted…

      • yea thanks, I already pulled the trigger a month ago on new SSD, otherwise I would be one of those waiting to jump on the bandwagon.

  • Nooooo. i just bought one from the one this morning, i would have saved $30…

    • which one bought and how much paid?

      • $281 1 TB from PC Byte

        • wow a huge $33 drop in price from just this morning..

I thought 20% off from yesterday was good..

Prices are dropping fast just prior to the EOFY…

Not sure if it is safe to buy anything now, since
you will regret it once you see the newer price bargains..

Hanging around oz bargain just leads to dissatisfaction from
          any purchases that you make…

Once something is thought of as a deal, then later it becomes a regret when you see the price drop..

Hard to be happy with any purchases we make anymore.

    • +2

You can take solace in the fact you are not alone :(

    • easy. cancel that and buy this. they're pretty easy going, they either cancel now, or advise you to reject delivery or send back for a full refund

  • 250gb looks sold out

  • +1

What the hell is up with SSD price nowdays?
    It’s crashing like bitcoin

    • +3

I am waiting for RAM to crash.

      • I'll be so mad if ram takes a nose dive in the next 2-3 months or something because I just bought 32gb for $480.

        • It won't crash but it's definitely going to start dropping over the next year or so.

        • @yanni1: I beg to differ
          I smell crash

  • How do I get the free delivery? Coming up as $19.95 postage charge for me (Sorry don't usually use ebay)

    • +4

You need to subscribe to eBay Plus, 30 day free trial available.

  • Dohh, ordered the M.2 then read the fine print … its SATA not pci ….

how embarrassing to have to cancel order at this killer price …. but wrong interface doesn't make it a bargain.

Soon 1TB will be under 200!

  • Well, I have purchased 3 of this:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Crucial-MX500-Series-1TB-2-5-SAT…
Even I knew its too good to be true.

  • Damnit missed out.
