I think you can just use the SD card if you don't want to subscribe for the cloud service.
Correct, I have one and use the SD card without the cloud subscription
Thank you Op. Purchased one.
how do you wire the power cable to these outdoors?
I've got one of these and can confirm the quality is very good. Paid $89 + delivery direct from Kogan a couple of weeks ago. It comes with a 3m USB and USB power adapter. That wasn't quite long enough for my installation so I purchased a 2m USB extension from The Good Guys to make it reach.
You don't need a Yi cloud subscription to use it. You can put up to a 32gb micro SD card in it and either record continuously or only when motion is detected. If recording continuously you'll get a couple of days storage before the card rewrites itself. You'll also need a good strong 2.4GHz wifi connection at the camera location.
It's annoying that the camera doesn't support backing up to a NAS drive but there are a few firmware hacks available and hopefully this will be an option in the future.
What's the maximum capacity SD card you can put into it? Thnx
64GB to work flawlessly. 128GB with some issues.
Whats the point in using an SD card?
You meant to get it out each time you want to see what happened?
You access the camera footage via the app on your phone. It initially sends you a 6 second preview clip. If you choose to see more it streams the footage from the SD card to your phone. If you want to download the footage you hit record and it transfers the video or photos to your phone. Then you can email, airdrop, upload, whatever wuth the clip.
I'm after a good one, outdoors, wireless, NAS backup. Ideas?
I might have gotten one of these too for an outdoor one where I can run a cord.. but can't be bothered hacking for NAS compatibility.
Ditto. I'm thinking the same. Recommendations welcome
This is not a professional camera. It's a handy one if you just need to monitor things like when people get home, when the post man comes to visit, what your kids are doing in the front yard etc.
If you want real surveillance you'll need to get a SWAN system or similar setup through your roof to a 8TB HDD.
Can easily be run through the top of your rolling garage door if you have one, then drilled into the outside wall.
Does it work with Mi Home app? (the one for Xiaofang / Dafang)
Prefer to use one app for all cameras
No,it can’t work with Mi home app
By the way,RRP Rmb $299 (Aud $61.64) on official website
It uses the Yi Home app.
Keen on these, especially if it's comparable to Nest cameras.
But I've read reviews that the night vision quality is poor ?
Also, can these be magnetically mounted like the nest outdoor cams ?
Night vision is pretty good I think. Definitely more than bright enough. Gets to the end of my drive way no problems. They aren't magnetically mounted. The mount requires 4 screws.
Here's a photo of what it looks like at night
No, it can't be magnetically mounted. I was thinking using Command strip to stick it on as I don't want to drill holes.
You will still need a hole for cable tho
gonna buy 1 to try, can't complain with this price even if it just does a half decent job i guess…
Can you view live video stream e.g. through the app or browser? thinking may double up as a video door bell.
Yep you can live stream through the app. I believe you can also get an rtsp:// feed through a browser if you install the hack firmware although I haven't tried this.
Excellent. I have an old android tablet which i plan to use as my home automation hub.
Anyone know of a way to receive a notification on the tablet and automatically bring up the live feed when the motion detection is triggered? The app does this automatically. It sends you a notification as soon as motion is detected.
Does any of you ask for neighbors' permission before installing an outdoor security camera? I live in the back unit and we have a commom driveway. The camera might slightly pick up activities in neighbor's backyard / kitchen.
It's more about your property security then spying
Some people are conscious like that. But to be honest, i don't get it why it's such a big deal. Unless of course if the camera can capture a part of their living room maybe? or bedroom? I might understand. But if it's just the outside, it's totally understandable. That's just me though. It would be better if you discuss this with your neighbor, maybe to give a heads up or something.
These are a further 20% off. probably ok under cover
https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/swann-swanncloud-hd-plug…Does it record 1080 as well? Because that's one of nest's edges, along with its continuous recording. She storage fee is just not cool, lol. And I read this that it isn't very good at night time recording. But overall, I still think it's cooler than any other wifi cams nowadays since it's wired. We don't have to worry about the batteries or something.
these require a yicloud subscription.
