Good deal, although they upped the price $50 from last night. :(

    • End of a different planned promotion I think!

      • Doesn't matter, the law is the price discount has to be relevant to 7 days isn't it?

        • +1

          Call the cops!

        • Price discount is based on the retail price not other promotional prices.

  • +1

    I'm fairly sure that 649.00 * .8 = $519.20, not $519.60 :P

    • oops, my bad. updated.

      • +1

never forget to carry the 1

  • Just out of interest, does this console have better graphics capability than a PC graphics card? (say gtx1080ti)

    • +4

      no

    • +2

From memory the GPU is close to the Vega 56 which in turn is close to the 1060. CPU isn’t so great but still manages 4K at 30fps

      • +1

Some newer titles like Forza Horizon 4 will be pushing 4K @ 60fps.

        • 4K is at 30, they haven't confirmed a resolution for the 60fps mode yet (probably 1080p or 1440p)

      • Close to 1060? That stinks (I mean MS)

Don't we need at least 1070 to game in 4k?

        • Yeah but…how many people would be able to afford it if it had 1070 performance?

    • +4

Than a PC graphics card? Of course, depends on which one. A GTX1080ti? Absolutely not. It's hard to compare, online says similar to an AMD RX580 which is pretty on par with a GTX1060. The Xbox One X has a lot of power to harness but many game developers (currently) don't fully utilise it.

    • +7

A GTX1080ti has almost twice the power at more than twice the price.

    • +1

lol wtf why would you compare the very highest tier of graphics card to a standard console?

      • To be fair, Xbox One X is the most expensive / powerful console on the market.

That being said, yes, comparing a $1000 graphics card alone to a $520 full console w/ operating system is a little misguided.

        • +2

It's a great console. But comparing it to a 1080 Ti? not wise.

If someone compared the lowest PC card to an Xbox One X you'd also get unwise comparison values.

      • +1

because they just need something to shit on consoles

    • Nope, but it's basically what a console should have been this generation in the first place. Everything else out there is underpowered. I have a PC with an old 2500k and a GTX 1070 which (in terms of framerate) eats the X1X for breakfast. It's a great console and a good 4k blu ray player though.

      • When the console is the same price as your graphics card then (profanity) me your PC better smash it in everything or else there's a problem.

The Xbox One X will be using an APU made by AMD with a decent (At least fort the series) customized Jaguar CPU running at 2.3GHz, paired with a customized 6TFlops AMD GPU. Now, just saying 6TFlops won’t get us far, we need to at least compare this to a GPU using the same architecture. We do know that this GPU will use the GCN architecture (gen 4 I believe because it’s using the new 14/16nm Fin-fet processing node) Now we’re getting somewhere. A newer card made by AMD using a very similar architecture would be the RX 480. A 6TFlops GPU made by AMD using the Polaris architecture, also known as the GCN architecture 4th gen. Since this is a modified GPU, it will probably differentiate in some ways, (such as the GPU die, RAM size, because we need to remember it’s an APU, RAM speed etc.) But it will probably rival this card very closely when playing games! Now that we have somewhat of a card to use, let’s compare this card to the GTX 1080!

How does it stack up to the GTX 1080?

The RX 480 rivals the GTX 1060 6GB in most games, which is to say, they trade blows and perform roughly the same (5% performance difference at worst). The GTX 1060 6GB is close the GTX 980, a card that is 40% slower than the GTX 980Ti, which is a card that is 30% (And in some cases 36%) slower than the GTX 1080! This means that the GTX 1060 6GB is roughly 70% worse than the GTX 1080

    • Xbox one x is optimise very well since everyone using it is on the same architecture and it can push GTX 1070 performance

      • "GTX 1070 performance"

Source? You got a games comparison or something in mind?

        • "You got a games comparison or something in mind?"

          2D indie games lol

  • thats just comparing to a 1080 and not a 1080TI which is about 30-40% more performance that its predecessor..

  • +1

FYI for those thinking of getting one, massive update required upon purchase and most games needs updating when you purchase, not a great console for those that do not have good internet.

    • cant be much worse than the minimum 40GB most games require these days

    • not sure why you were downvoted, thanks for the heads up

    • +1

Gaming in general these days is awful for people with poor internet. Whether it's console or PC.
The sizes of games and patches/updates are huge (and growing).

    • It's 1Gig not massive at all. But yes game updates is another story

  • Recently got one of these about a month ago through a JB HiFi deal, around $560 from memory.

Anyway, am having trouble getting it to recognise that my new Panasonic TV (https://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/televisions/premium-ul… ) is capable of HDR 10 (which it is), one of the checks in the Xbox settings says it can’t do it.

I’ve got the Xbox connected to my Denon receiver (4K capable etc) via HDMI and then the receiver connects to the TV. I’ve also tried connecting the Xbox to the receiver and then out to the TV directly as well also with no luck.

    Any suggestions please?!

    • I had to enable "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Colour" on each HDMI port on my LG OLED. On the Panasonic TV it might be labeled "HDMI HDR Setting". http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/tv/dow…

      • Some tvs only have one 4K hdmi port. Check this out and ensure hdr is turned on in it's settings

    • +1

Have you tried connecting the Xbox directly to the TV? The HDR works just fine on my pana ex (as long as I don't correct it to hdmi 3)

    • Could it be cable related? Is it an old HDMI cable?

    • Try a different HDMI cord. Might sound silly, but I tried getting ARC working between a receiver and my TV for hours… Everything worked except the audio. Changed the cord, problem vanished.

    • On Panasonic EX780 I had to change the HDMI setting to mode 2 on the port the Xbox is connected to, to get all the ticks in boxes.

      • Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated.

shizzle you legend - your suggestion is what has worked, changed to 'Mode 2' (whatever that is compared to Mode 1!?!) and now the Xbox reports all green ticks for HDR! THANKS!!

  • I myself can't get 4k to display on my 3 1/2 year old 4k hisense as it says its only supports 24hz. But I still can notice a big difference in how smooth all games look and run now. It is still upscaling the picture. Well worth the money in my eyes.

    • 24hz limit and it looks smoother than OG Xbox one running at 30/60fps?

      • Lol that's in 4k resolution which is why it doesn't support it on this TV. Although it runs at full speed in 1080p resolution. Hence why it looks smoother. Games run with visibly less stutter and pop-up too. The ingame performance difference between the stock one and the x is very noticeable. I've tried some of the forza games so far, gow as well as burnout remastered too. All run much better then before. Even Doom as well :)

  • If I sold my xbox one s this price would be pretty good. How much would you guys expect to get for a xbox one s 500gb? This is a much better deal than the ebgames tradein, like several hundred dollars better.

If this thing could dual boot windows 10…

Im about to pull the pin..or should I wait a few days??
    Cheers…
