Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM Lens $125.7 @ digiDIRECT eBay (eBay Plus Members)

PLUS15

The EF 50mm F1.8 STM excels at portraiture, low-light photography, and adding an artistic edge to everyday objects and settings, thanks to its wide F1.8 maximum aperture and 50mm focal length.

Wide F1.8 Aperture
It's easy to capture superb portraits, or bold, artistic photos and movies with the EF 50mm F1.8 ATM - the wide F1.8 maximum aperture provides precise control over depth of field. Additionally, this wide aperture lets more light into the lens, so you can comfortably shoot in darker conditions.

Stepping Motor Technology (STM)
The EF 50mm F1.8 STM features stepping motot technology which delivers fast, smooth, and near silent autofocus capability. This is particularly beneficial when shooting movies or shooting in live view mode.

Compact, Lightweight and Affordable
The EF 50mm F1.8 STM has a compact and lightweight design, weighing a mere 160g, and easily slips into your bag adding very little to the overall weight of your kit. The lens's new design compliments Canon's spectrum, of EOS DSLRs, while the new metal mount provides a more robust connection to camerabodies.

If you have a Canon body and you don't buy this lens at this price, well let's just say having a DSLR is not worth it for you.

    • +2

Eh. It's a technically great lens for the price but I prefer something much wider for everyday use, especially on a crop body.

        ••• both excellent statements.

    • Of course, if you dont have one already

    • +1

An exception for thos who already own a 50mm 1.4 or 1.2.

    • What a silly statement, this lens is only useful for portraits, not everyone does portraits

      • -1

It was my primary lens until a few months ago (Nikon), moved out to mirrorless recently.

Wow, great to see digidirect have partnered up with ebay plus.

This "niffy fifty" is one of the best bang for buck lens a beginner should get.

  • Tempted to sell my old 1.4 and get this for STM alone

  • "we ran into a problem, try again later" shows when i apply the code.

nevermind it should have said you need to be an ebay plus member to apply the code.

    • +2

You need to be a ebay plus member to use that code.

  • I paid 158 with free shipping for this on amazon au. Now it’s like 16 shipping. It’s a good lens if you only have the kit lens. This should hav been the kit lens tbh. https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B00XKSBMQA?psc=1&ref=yo_po…

  • I use this exact lens with my canon 1300d and it works very well for low light, macros and portraits! Great lil' lens that every canon user should own!

  • Does the 'stm' do much on this lens

    • Video autofocus is pretty noisy, rather slow and not always accurate, but it's still improvement over non-STM version. STM version also has metal mount which is a big plus, and slightly better optics.

    • A couple of other points to consider - the the STM version has an unusual (by Canon standards) 49mm filter thread as opposed to the more common 52mm size on the previous versions; STM is focus by wire which some people don't like the feel of, and also means if you remove the lens from the camera with the inner focusing tube protruding from the front, it's more prone to being knocked and damaging the mechanism, and to retract it back into its "safe" infinity position, it needs to be mounted on the camera and powered up again.

In saying all that, I own one and it's a fantastic little lens!

  • Relatively new to photography but inherited a Canon 70D with a 18-55mm EFS lens and a 75-300mm lens.
The 18-55 has started coming up with sensor connectivity problems which I have read is a common issue after time and not one that can be repaired easily.
Looking to replace it with a good all round, taking family shots etc lense, as the 75-300 lens seems to be only usable for outdoor long distance shots.
Would this work well. Have read a positive review about the nifty fifty

    • This one takes amazing photos, even in low light…the only issue for you is that it will be locked to 50mm so you would need to step back for group shots (if space allows). Great photos for the price but just not good for indoor group shots.

    • Just get another 18-55 or 18-70 lens, you'll find with the 18-55 it will be the only lens you use, unless you start getting creative.
