    what is it?

    • +2

      Didi meaning little brother

      • I googled it - so it's a ride sharing app from China

      • +5

In Hindi, 'Didi' means elder sister :-)

      • +3

Actually Didi 滴滴 refers to the sound of a taxi honking diidiiiiiiiiii

        • -1

What kinda of honk sound like "diidii", more like"bee beep"?

        • I think I hear more dii than I hear beep. Although, neither of the two are that accurate.

    • +1

UBER rival. Ride sharing service that originated in China and is starting out in Australia in Melbourne.

  • +4

Might want to give a bit more detail in your post about what the business actually does.

  • +2

    Thanks got the credit

  • DiDi was so big in china when Uber tried to launch, they simply muscled them out (at least in Guangzhou).

  • +1

Is the credit valid for multiple rides? And when does it expire?

    • No idea. 2nd July.

  • OK grabbed one - the redemption page was in Spanish for some reason but hey $50 so Ill give it a go
    cheers OP

    • Same here, was in Spanish.

  • +2

It didnt work. Weirdly, promotion page in spanish said something in error. Anyone else with the same issue?

    • +3

Mine did this initially but I got out of the app and went back in and it worked

  • Thanks, applied it successfully but it says the expiry date is 2018-07-02. Any ideas?

    • +5

      2nd of July?

      • Deal says end of July tho

      • +1

Yeah deal says expires end of July. Mine expires on 2nd

        • +1

Maybe the 50% off fare promotion ends then but the credit is only until the 2nd?
OP needs to be clearer about this

  • +4

Won't open on android unless I grant permission to access my files and dialer? No thanks.

  • Are there many drivers?

  • +1

Got the $50 credit thanks. Wonder if there will be any balance remaining if it's not fully used up, especially since there will be an additional 50% off fares as well.

  • +3

Why do you need to give it permission to files and dialer? No thanks

    • Because the Chinese government wants all your metadata obviously.

  • +4

I don't know what is the point of this voucher code when it is expiring on the 2nd of July this year. And yet there is not operational in Melbourne and only in Geelong (part of the testing and trial phase).

    • Only in geelong? Feel like a fool now…..

      • +4

We are in Melbourne from Monday! This voucher is to celebrate our launch in Melbourne.

        • +2

OMG we got a rep on ozbargain! How did you guys find out about OZB? Are you from China or are you Australian?

        • @fuzor: Hold it in for the AMA to arrive.. :P

  • Behold the invasion of Chinese tech companies soon.. Exciting times IMHO though..

    • +2

Malcolm Turnball probably shut them down and believe it's a national security issue. LOL.

      • +1

Well thats one way to avoid Trumps tariffs. We are like an independent state of America anyways that we always follow like a little bro.

      • The Turn ball is a bull. It's very bull like to giveaway billions of our tax money to the big four banks.

Welfare is suitable when it comes to big business according to the Liberals while cutting health and education for the little guy.

    • Why exciting?

Shouldn't we be supporting our local entrepreneurs?

      • Same can be said with Amazon, Google, eBay, uber, Tesla.

  • The app could do with quite a bit of work… When you put the code in, it doesn't confirm you've entered it. There's no option to enter your credit card by the camera. The credit card doesn't auto fill nor does your name, or email.

  • When will they come to Sydney?

  • Got the app, applied the code.
But there are no drivers.. I’m in Melbourne approx 5km from cbd (inner city)
‘Didi is currently unavailable in your area’
Anyone have no drivers in the area? Maybe not popular with drivers yet?

    • +4

We launch on the 25th of June :)

      • Is it true as to what one of the posters said above that the only rides in Geelong will be operational during the testing & trial phase?? What about Melbourne and other areas?

        • We launch in Melbourne June 25. This voucher is for Melbourne. We are currently live in Geelong.

        • +3

@abi3251038: Thanks, I installed it and (think) I got my $50 credit. I like free shit so I appriciate the deal, but isn't this supposed to be China's Uber? The app is really poorly polished and kind of looks like a first year software engineering assignment.

          1. You go my name when I signed up, but I had to re-enter it on the credit card page, and no auto-space after my first name, so it ended up camel case and I had to go back and add the space.

          2. You've put placeholder text for Visa and Mastercard cards, yet my amex worked.

          3. Once signed up, it put the map over South Australia.

          4. On the promo page, it suddenly switched to spanish.

          5. After entering the code; with no confirmation that it worked, it opened the 'share' prompt.

          6. After going back to the main view, I had no confirmation that the credit was there. When I tried entering it again, I got spanish text which translated to "I already sent this"

          7. I manually scrolled the map to Melbourne, then pressed the icon to locate me, and it moved back to South Australia.

I've been quite impressed with Xiaomi's knock-off products and had high expectations using "China's Uber knock-off", but this really crappy.

All that being said, free shit is free shit so I'll give it a try for my trip back from work tomorrow. Cheers!

        • +1

@idonotknowwhy: Thanks for the feedback! We launch on Monday - keen to get more feedback from your first trip experience.

        • +1

          @idonotknowwhy:
          Amazing review :D
My favorite part was where you said "I like free shit"

        • @abi3251038: Here's some feedback for you: I am interstate, but about to travel back to Melbourne. I was unable to add the promo code because I'm not in Melbourne currently. Extremely frustrating. It should allow you to add a code that's valid in another location, like Uber does. Uber even allows you to add US promo codes that are simply valid and activated in the US.

  • +1

Surprised there has not been any mention of an infamous ride share app.

  • +2

    spelling mistake on app..
    "redeemed 1 coupon/vouvher"

    • Covefe

  • +1

Been using it in china for the last 3 months, nothing wrong so far. Use it 3/4 times a week. It keeps giving me discount vouchers so always end up cheaper than a taxi.

    • Wow really? Is that even possible? Last time I went to Shanghai, the cab charges were so cheap I couldn't believe my eyes…It seems even the fuel used costed more lol

  • +1

Spanish on the promotions page, and no status of my account balance to tell if it actually worked?

  • +1

    Hey OP,
I’m from Melbourne but in another city at the moment. Am I able to apply the promo even though I’m not in the correct location? Won’t let me right now. It will probably be over by the time I get there this weekend.

    • I had that problem too. Extremely frustrating.

  • +5

Is this voucher one time only or can the credit be used over multiple trips?

    • -1

Lol, multiple times? If you are the owners of Didi - would you do it? Throw away $50 multiple times to the same user?

      • Re read the question.

  • +4

“All available coupons/vouchers with this promotion code have been redeemed.” With added advice of “Try to be earlier next time” which sounds more harsh than helpful.

  • +2

Great to see some competition - getting sick of Uber especially when drivers take the long route and Uber doesn't care at all

    • Yeah they do, I've contacted Uber a couple of times and they always adjust the amount and credit back some of the fare if the driver has clearly taken the wrong route :)

      • I'm sorry to hear that it must be very frustrating can I have your name please?

    • +1

I've never had that issue with Uber, but I get the phone calls from drivers asking for the destination, then asking me to cancel which sucks.

How do you protect the nation against terrorism, how do you stop bad people, how do you detect bad people.

It's like saying O-bike is bad for the city of Melbourne, and not looking at the culprits who does stupid things.

    • I think you will find that is more a reflection of the users rather than of the technology.

  • How much can $50 take u?

  • I redeemed the code, 5 minutes later I go into "My Coupons/Vouchers" and it disappeared… Tried to re-enter the code, but it says I've already used it. Huh?!

  • +1

Found more info about their launch in Melbourne tomorrow:

    https://www.finder.com.au/chinese-rideshare-didi-to-launch-i…

Should be able to combine the $50 credit with 50% off rides??

    Extract:

In true launch-fashion, DiDi will also be offering 50% off rides in Melbourne from 25-31 June 2018 to drive passenger interest. This mirrors Taxify's deal when it launched in Melbourne in January this year.

DiDi's launch discount is capped to a maximum of $10 per trip (so trips of $20 are your best bargain) and to two trips per day, per person.

  • Corner of Flinders St and Spring St it's currently only a 1 minute wait for a DiDi.

  • So can the $50 credit be used for multiple trips or just for one?

    • +2

      Only one trip.

  • +3

In my first Didi right now.

Really loving the app compared to Uber.
It gives you live updates on how much you have spent based on distance.

    • Did you use your $50 in one go? Thanks

      • Yeah I did.

        • Thank you

  • Used it this morning. Excellent experience, app and driver. Although I did not seem to find a way to book in advance.

  • Is the $50 valid just for one trip or can be used multiple trips?

    • Seems to be just one, and without 50% off

      • Thanks :)
        Planning on using it today.

  • +1

Used the Didi credit today, put my crazy uncle inside and said "take him home, he's not feeling well!"

Saved me 30 minutes of blabbering. +1

  • +2

    Long rant ahead

Tried to request a ride twice, and both times the driver ended up driving in the opposite direction to me. Drivers wouldn't answer my calls or messages. Between waiting to see if they were actually going to turn up, and errors from their app rendering my phone unusable, I wasted 30 minutes of my life trying to catch a ride with Didi. I had to call an uber in the end, and paid $30 that I couldn't remotely afford to get to my event on time. Plus the $10 cancellation fee from Didi - taken from my account, not off the voucher - means that I'm out $40 all up.

TL;DR: Terrible experience, and I won't be using them again.
