chromecast wont work apparently, need the amazon fire stick

    • Yes there is an Android TV app

    • you need to have a TV/device that is compatible with the Amazon Prime app or an Amazon Fire. It does not work with Chromecast or any other non-Amazon casting, unless you use a screen cast, but they generally suck.

This is the whole reason I cancelled prime video after trialling it earlier when it was half price.

Another example of Amazon wanting to control more than they deserve at the expense of the consumer.

      • Will try and side load the Amazon TV app onto my Mi Box and hope it goes well.

  • Also, how does this work Ifni already signed up to the free 6 months of prime video via the France deal..?

    • New email

  • Using Prime in Amazon US, you get 20% off all pre-orders for video games. Do we get that here?

    • Not that I can see yet, but it would make me move over. I guess also, if you look on the Amazon US site, they charge full retail for games. While Amazon AU already have discounts (see Mario Tennis Aces)

      • Good point. The 2 day delivery is pretty tempting though.

        • Release day delivery promised on pre-orders. I guess a small refund if it fails? Also could be in the arvo.
At the moment I take the day off work for big releases and can pick the game up retail when they open.

  • Can you make a family account to share it? Or at least the video part?

    • Yeah you can. Just link your account to your partners account. I believe you can watch two different videos on separate accounts, but can't watch the same thing on two different accounts.

  • Does the Australian version of Prime Video get nerfed like Netflix Australia when it first launched? What kind of selection do they have here?

    • +1
      • +1

Very small compared to US, Uk and some other countries catalogues.

But what else we can do.. we are thrown far away from rest of the habitat and that makes them think we are ignorant about tech..they don't know we have biult most expensive and fastest fibre network on this side of the world ;)

        • +1

          hahahahahaha sigh
          Thanks for the giggle!

Their website got updated this morning — Amazon prime now looks quite official with a new landing page and a "TRY PRIME" link now appears on the amazon logo.

  • +1

Sweet. My prime video discount pricing ends next month. Close enough :D thanks OP

  • Will this affect my 6 month Amazon FR prime video existing free trial?

    • keen to know also

    • no

  • +1

How do you get the $59/year? After 30 day trial, can I sign up for a year for $59? If I cant, wont the annual cost be ($4.99 x 5) + ($6.99 x 7)?

    • +1

From the first paragraph of the relevant link above:

At the end of the Amazon Prime free trial your card will be charged $59 for an annual membership or $6.99 per month with a monthly membership.

    • +1

59 a year will most likely be the default renewal after 30 days that is what mine is set to. Go to "Your Account" and then manage prime.

    • +2

Go to your account then click the "Prime" box

Then under Payment Options select the $59/ year one.

You are automatically placed on the monthly $4.99 one after your trial.

      • Thanks!

    • +1

It would seem the best way to do this is to get the $4.99 a month first till December then sign onto the annual membership?

      • +1

        Yes

    • For now it's $4.99 until the end of the year so there's no point switching to annual unless you're 100% sure you're going to stay subscribed (you save about 88c for the year changing to annual right now).

  • not a bad offer

  • Looks like unlimited photo uploads to prime photos is not available for AU. Damn annoying!

    • It will come

Give them time to implement full features on the AU platform

It may take a few months

      • +1

Yep fingers crossed. I IMd them:

Yes, in US it is included.
Amazon prime photos is yet to launched in Australia.
Our team is tirelessly working to make this available Wayne. I hope you understand.

  • +1

Looks like Amazon AU is finally getting into the real deal now. Looks like at least they are serious about the Australian market. These prices are extremely reasonable for Prime, but unfortunately the number of items are very limited.

  • Is there expiry to this free trial?

    • I think its not stated, but it might last a year or so.

    • Trial is 30 day.
Discount of $4.99 is until 30/1/2019.

  • +2

I just scrolled through the horror videos available on Prime Video.

It definitely thins out after the first two pages and the remaining films remind me of going to the video shop in the 90s!

  • Are they putting prices of items up? Gran Turismo Sport was $15 yesterday and now its $19 with the option of Prime shipping.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Sony-Interactive-Entertainment-Tur…

Unless it was just on sale and ended overnight…..

    • +1

Yeh, Days of Play sale ended last night

  • Can you pre-order video games for 20% off?

Actually, can you buy US video games at all?

  • Also cheaper than the US Prime which is $99 USD ($133)

Amazon US Prime will be $119 USD from next year.

    Edit: correction.

    • Where did you see this?

  • No family share for now?

  • +2

So I pay about 5 bucks for twitch prime at the moment. Does this mean I should just switch to Amazon prime for the same price now and still get twitch prime?

  • -3

Seems good but I'm not going to be sinking my money into Amazon since they're blocking us from the US site (yes, I realize they say they'll allow access through the AU website but I'm feeling very reserved about that). Plus they won't tell you who will be delivering your goods. I'm lucky where the AusPost crew are really good but other shipping companies here are utter crap.

I will certainly be waiting to see how this all pans out.

    • +2

      they will miss your $5..

    • I'm lucky where the AusPost crew are really good but other shipping companies here are utter crap

So you bought something from Amazon AU and it was delivered by AusPost? After that, you will not be spending any money on Amazon AU?

      • No, I never mentioned I bought anything from Amazon.au. I'm just saying Auspost here are good (because I know a lot of people who despise them) and the rest of the delivery services here are very unreliable.

I have enquired in the past about who does their deliveries because it was unclear. The assistant told me the goods could be delivered by a few postal services but couldn't say who. If I knew that I could have my stuff just delivered by Auspost then I wouldn't be as worried but since it can come via anyone I'm not bothering to use them.

        • +2

Well my friend, you’re in luck. Amazon does use Auspost to deliver packages. Have ordered from them before and regular delivery always had an Auspost E-Parcel label stuck on the package.

I even have my orders delivered to my P.O Box.

If you’re gonna boycott anyone, boycott Harvey Norman who are pushing for protectionist policies which harm real competition - like the one forcing Amazon United States to Pay GST on goods located in the U.S. that are sold to Australian customers.

Imagine other nations forcing Australian businesses to do the same.

  • +1

Can someone please explain to me how Prime Reading differs from Kindle Unlimited. I'm a bit confused on that.

    • +5

Prime reading = 1000 titles (titles will change over time), included with Amazon Prime
Kindle unlimited = all titles, not included with Amazon Prime, costs $13.99 a month

      • Awesome, thanks mate. Follow up questions for anyone. Is there a way to see what books are on Prime Reading (without being signed up)? And I think I read somewhere about being able to borrow 1 book per month, does anyone know how that works?

  • All the books say "The content isn't downloadable for your region".

    • You need to do the dance of changing your Kindle and digital account location - both need to be in Australia. I kept clicking on things until it finally worked ;)

  • -1

it looks good but its rotten to the core….

  • +2

Is anyone using Amazon to purchase their standard household stuff- toilet paper, tissues, toiletries, etc…? Interested to know how they compare to others, especially now if you are using prime.

    • +2

Yep I have been, exactly the same as buying from a B&M, amazing prices when factoring in AMAZON20 and 20% off.

E.G I got a Braun Texstyle 715A, 24pk Viva Paper Towel, 4kg FAB Powder and 2kg on Oxi-Action for $34 Total Delivered, pretty ridiculous to be honest.

      • +1

Especially now with Prime, no need to order way ahead.

      • you keep changing emails and credit cards?

        • Only create new emails

    • If u like Fairy dishwasher tablet, they’re same price with current Coles promo, before any of the discounts u can apply. I got them for around $5 for 37 pack one (Coles is $9.50)

    • 45 pack of Kleenex toilet paper is $15~ right now compared to Coles which is $15 for 32 everyday price.

  • Anything good on Prime Video? I assume there will be less titles than the US version?

    • American Gods
      The Terror
      The Night Manager
The Man in the High Castle
      Penguins of Madagascar
      Jack Ryan
      House
      The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
      (Coming Soon) - The expanse!!

I dunno if all of these will be available in Oz but I personally like the quality of content in prime better than netflix.

  • I have no intention to keep thr prime membership past the 1 month trial. Any one have a link to cancel ?

If it works like the US Prime, even if you cancel early. You keep the benefits for the whole 30 day trial period

    • +4

Go Here and on the left hand side go "End Trial and Benefits". And you're right, it lasts until it expires after you cancel.

  • will starting Amazon Prime count as your first purchase on amazon.com.au (for those who haven't used/purchased using the AMAZON20 code yet)?

    • No they work together, I used them both today.

      • Sorry let me clarify, I haven't used AMAZON20 or made a Amazon AU purchase yet, so if I sign up for Amazon Prime (Trial) now, can I use the AMAZON20 code on my first Amazon AU purchase thereafter?

        • Yes that's correct :)

        • @doweyy:
          Awesome, cheers :)

  • Is the $4.99/month price in AUD or USD? It doesn't seem to be particularly clear from your post or the Amazon website.

    • +1

all prices on the AU site are AUD

      • Thanks for the reply. Seems like a pretty good deal then.

  • Anyone know if Prime Video is based on IP/geo location? ie - restricted to use only in Aus?
I travel for work and wondering if I can login and use it from Asia on my laptop etc.

    • I’ve used a VPN to access the U.S version of Amazon Prime Video. Works fine and you can access a lot more movies. New releases.

But I don’t have any experience on using it in Asia.

      • No worries thanks.

  • Having an issue with an order - really slow for Amazon AU to process it (not yet despatched). Customer Support offered free upgrade to priority shipping (basically the same one Amazon Prime members get). I am interested to see what that's like. Considered the order got upgraded at 8:50PM and it is quoting 2 days (item not yet despatched).

At the same time, I am a bit concerned. Just don't want Amazon Prime becoming essential to get decent delivery from Amazon AU.

    • Just a heads up, Priority Shipping is actually one level above what Prime Users get (Expedited Shipping), priority will always be at a cost because they place you ahead of everyone else.

  • Can you stream with Xiaomi Mi Box?

  • Is there any word on a proper Amazon Fire TV device coming out in Australia yet? Prime Video would be great but it's hard to sell to people who don't have a compatible Android TV or the choked Fire TV Stick Basic Edition…

  • Do they ship to parcel collect / parcel lockers Auspost no probs?

    • +1

      yes

    • Provided they ship with someone who allows it. I had something shipped to a parcel locker through fastway (IIRC) and the courier sent it back stating they didn't deliver to PO boxes.

  • +3

Signed up last night, bought some socks, they got delivered today at 8.50am. Thoroughly impressed.

    • what courier?

      • Was delivered to my receptionist so don't know.. the packaging slip is all branded Amazon

        • nice gift for the receptionist..

  • +1

Bought some Colgate toothpaste for $4.99, says it will arrive Friday. Free shipping with Prime and the one I bought was much cheaper than Coles/Woolies + I don't need to leave the house.

  • +2

Last month I accidently signed up to the Amazon US Prime, clicked by accident then forgot to cancel after the first free month so my fault 100%.
Only noticed when I checked my CC. Quick online chat and funds ($17) where returned to my CC but also have the same amount in my Aussie account as a gift card. So I get double return? If so cant complain at all.
Signed up to the Aussie Prime this time and will keep it. Might grab some socks and toothpaste.

  • Does anyone here have experience with Prime in two countries?

I currently have a prime US membership and i'll likely keep that going for the amazon music and photos cloud drive benefits.

I am aware the benefits are country specific (US gives US shipping, Aus give Aus shipping) but what about the online benefits like prime video?

I currently get 2 concurrent streams with my US membership. If I add prime Aus to the same email address/account will that increase the concurrent streams to 4? If not i'm likely better adding Prime Aus to a new seperate account and having some of my other devices use that account.

Keen to hear other peoples feedback.

    • Same boat.
BTW, how do you use Cloud Photos? I don't get any more than 5GB as it defaults to the AU store for storage.

  • Sorry if been asked before but which delivery couriers do they use? Not fastway or toll priority I hope. I hate those guys.

    • +2

I've had deliveries from Auspost and Fastway

    • +2

      Auspost, toll, fastway I've had

    • Thanks for replying. Good to know they use Auspost too. I like them. If I'm not available they will leave it at nearby post shop for me to collect. Whereas others will just leave the parcel at an unsafe place for me.
