Thinking of Switching Electricity Biller (From Energy Australia to Momentum/Red Energy)

My 2 year contract with Energy Australia is almost up and I'm thinking of switching to either Momentum or Red Energy to make use of the AMEX offers here and here.

I have yet to finalise a price comparison between the three but my gut-feel is that I'll be ahead for at least a year or two.

Just wondering, what do existing customers think of Momentum or Red Energy in terms of their service? Have you had any payment issues? Has your experience with their customer support been positive?

Personally with Energy Australia, I don't like how the discounts are conditional ie. pay by due date to receive them. I think initially the direct debit didn't activate for the first bill with meant I wasn't eligible for the discount. Since then, it's been fine.

    I'm with Red.
It works. I get electricity. They get my money.
    No payment issues.
    Customers support is fine.

They advertise heavily in the Selwyn Ski resort.

Hey mate, im just going to steal another OzBargain user's post from last month:

    @adam:

Full details of this and other plans are in the OzBargain Community Australian Electricity Prices Spreadsheet(docs.google.com). These Origin plans, like all providers alternate plans are included in hidden cells that you'll need to unhide to view.

  • I am in Melbourne and used to be with EA. Switched over to Tango Energy (formerly Pacific Hydro) and EA can't beat/price match their deal.
I would advise to get their quote before switching to Red.
So far been with them for a few months and no issues with billing etc.
However the only caveat is that they only sell Electricity.
    Cheers

Always put what State you're in and your energy provider, otherwise you'll get responses from other states that won't apply to you.

NSW the providers are generally the same, so won't make too much different, but can.

For NSW, I use Origin and just recontract when eve they have a better deal.

Stay away from AGL has been the NSW rule for a while now. Also avoid dodo

Can't see that spreadsheet where I am now, but if its the same one I remember looking at it has out of date data

  • I churn electricity providers every quarter to get a new sign on bonus. Use the above spreadsheet and/or https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/offer-search/ to make sure any bonus you get isn't eaten by a higher bill. Having done this, I'd stay away from dodo and click. Click give you the pay on time discount on the following bill which is shady AF. Dodo bill you on estimated usage before your meter is read and for me it was wildly inaccurate.

  • if your in Vic try the government comparison sit https://compare.switchon.vic.gov.au/
