Highly recommend springing for the paperwhite - backlight is clutch.

    • Yep, it wins for sure. First few days a tiny bit of shadowing (where the light source is, I guess)at the bottom bothered me. But after a week got used to it and couldn't go back to my older "cheap" kindle. Just seems easier on my eyes plus not having to find a lamp/light at night is a bonus. The "weeks of battery life" is an exaggeration. Maybe if you read 30 minutes a day. But I read 1-2 hours a day and I need to recharge within a week …. 4 or 5 days I'm already looking at the battery life.

      • I think that's what they say, 30 minutes a day gives up to 6 weeks* of reading?

Anyway, love my Kindle Paperwhite. Highly recommended.

    • Annoyingly doesn't work too well with borrowed ebooks…

  • AMAZON20 + NAB 10% off if you have a CC with them?

    • Thanks. Updated the post.

      • Nice find! Updated.

  • might price match with officeworks

  • Can you combine with Cashrewards 5% back?

    • I'm sure you can. Just be aware:

Items added to your shopping cart before clicking from Cashrewards will not earn Cashback.

  • Thanks mate, created a new account to get another AMAZON20. Paperwhite for $139 delivered was too hard to resist.

    • Agreed! $139 is no-brainer. Updated the title.

  • Damn bought one with a burner account on Monday

Been thinking about getting a new ereader for a while but I really dislike Amazon so I found this for anyone that is interested in a device that isn't tied to Amazon. Benefits being you can read whatever you want and your device cannot be remotely locked or wiped.

    https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/aura-2nd-edition-6in-er…

Is the second edition Aura by Kobo, have found Kobo to make a great Ereader and preferred over previous kindles.
At $179 with free shipping it isn't as cheap as the Paperwhite but there is a bonus sleep cover offer if bought before June 30, the cover is valued at $44.95 rrp. (https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/aura-2nd-edition-sleep-…).

Alternatively you could wait and see what price point the Clara HD launches at.

    • Nice find with the sleep cover!

  • still 159? possible to get around 125-140 on officeworks or on myer sometimes. anyway is it stackable with the code sent due to closure of amazon us to aussie customers? so it could go down 119?

  • Wish there were some Kobo deals. Kindle's walled garden ecosystem, forced updates etc ruin otherwise appealing hardware.

  • $229 (pre CashRewards) is a good price for Voyage. At this discount I would recommend it over Paperwhite.

  • the only problem with my paperwhite is that it drops off the wifi sometimes and then I cant rejoin. I see everyone else's wifi but not my own for some reason. A simple restart fixes it and it only happens once a month but…
That being said it's by far the best tech purchase I ever made. It just does what its supposed to do well and unless I break it I can't see ever needing to upgrade or replace it.

Battery life is really good too, I didn't even fully charge mine last time and this week I am already at the end of my 3rd book with about 45% left.
