What Are The Rules Exactly Regarding Having Prices in Deals Posts?

So I've seen people comment on deals with coupon codes but no actual links to items: "We like to see prices. Bargains have prices".

But then I've seen so many deals with coupon codes with no actual links to items and no one says anything about needing to have links to actual items and prices? For example, the ebay coupons, insport coupons - no one says "We like to see prices. Bargains have prices", but for other deals everyone seems to neg them for not having prices.

What's the actual rule in this regard?

Thanks

  • If there are prices list prices, if there aren't prices like a sitewide coupon then list the % off. Putting example deals with % off are useful but in cases of for example 11% off sitewide at eBay, that's probably unnecessary. But for say a smaller store like Boxlots, they put an example product with a price in their 25% off sale: 25% off Site Wide; Finish Powerball Maxi Packs 60 Tabs - Was $10, Now $7.50 ($0.125/Tablet) @ Boxlots [Free Shipping Over $49].

People like to make up their own rules in the comments even though the guidelines & help are linked at the bottom of every page.

    • So the neggers in this post are wrong in negging the deal (which gave a sitewide discount coupon) only because there were no examples of deals listed? I know the guidelines say "it's a good idea to mention one or even two bargains", but that's not a hard and fast rule, non-compliance of which warrants a neg right?

      • So the neggers in this post

        Which post?

        • this one, sorry. copy pasted the wrong thing.

Edit: I apologise! there are no negs on the deal, but my question about the comments about having prices still stands.

        • @waterbottled: That post doesn't have any negs by a member. Or are you referring to the comments getting negged?

        • @stuhtb: I apologise! there are no negs on the deal, but my question about the comments about having prices still stands.

        • @waterbottled:

Given it's a rather small, unknown store, examples of what the bargains are would be helpful. I think you get these comments on poor deals.

          • The rep hasn't bothered making a comment in 2 years.
          • The store continues to post deals that aren't well received.
          • Continues to post poor titles which we've fixed on a number of times.
          • Site sells fashion products which aren't very comparable (e.g. it's not a Chromecast).

So perhaps if the rep actually put prices in there maybe the deals would be better received.

        • @neil: Ahh I see, thanks for the clarification :)

      • What post are you referring to?
        Edit: I'm slow.
I'm not seeing negative votes though.

I think it should be blatantly obvious that the linked deal needs justification for being a bargain. A percentage-off discount is arbitrary since there's no fixed expected price to begin with.
The eBay sales are a code that applies on top of the already competitive prices. The retailer doesn't lose money so it's fairly unique.
Plus there have been dozens of front page deals using the eBay discount vouchers, proving the value.
That doesn't stop people arguing in the eBay deal comments however. It's common for people to question those deals but the pos votes speak for themselves.

        • I see I see, you make a good point. thanks mate :)
