Do you guys think there is any difference between home brand al foil and cling wrap

    Yes.

One is made from aluminium, the other polyethylene.

    • Best stuff.

  • alu foil i think they're the same

but cling wrap got 2 types i think .. polyethylene vs …. forgot

I think forgot one is better

The cutting blade seems better on the branded ones.

really? i seem to cut my fingers equally as well on the home brand ones :)

havent noticed much of a difference.

I dont like homebrand baking paper though, it's not as thick and seems to burn at a lower temp.

I also notice the difference with baking paper.

I always buy a branded baking paper (and 'baking paper' rather than 'greaseproof paper') but whatever is cheapest per unit length for cling wrap and Al foil.

    • homebrand baking paper is rubbish. rolling out burgers to get them thin between baking paper - they stick like glue to home brand paper, but glide off branded stuff.

  • I get the 600mm roll of cling wrap from the asian grocer, it's supposed to be used for catering. It's in a red box. Much superior to Glad Wrap and works out much cheaper (mainly because it's 600mm).

I tried Aldi's cling wrap, it was terrible. It barely stuck to itself, let alone bowls etc.

Foil, I'm ok with the cheaper foils, seems to do all the same job to me… which is really only to line a tray when grilling things.

    • 600mm is 0.6m. 600m perhaps?

      • correct, 600m

    • have done this in the past. The only downside is the physical size. Really has to sit on the bench top permanently

      • I put mine on the pantry.

I find it easier to just pull the wrap with both hands than using one hand to hold the bowl and the other hand to pull the wrap box other the bowl.

  • I only use premium aircraft grade aluminium foil.

coles sells plastic wrap and aluminium foil just in a tube (with out the box). it's cheaper than with the box & cutter (reuse the old ones)

i find it is as good as brand.

  • Depends which ones your comparing, Reynolds wrap foil is much thicker and heavier.

  • We’ve been using the Aldi ones for years and think they’re great.

    • I'm wondering what makes a great cling wrap as opposed to non-great. I seem to find they are all the same same, but notice the price vary a bit. I mean homebrand woolies seem great to me.

      • Some of the non-great, in my experience, rip easily when stretched to cover a bowl. If you just wrap a piece of cheese they are fine though.

    Aldi cling wrap is great.

  • I find that glad wrap sticks a lot better than other branded or home brand stuff

  • There is a difference. Try to buy good brands when on special.
