Building a Home Gym

Hey guys,

I've decided I want to try save myself some money in the long term and build myself a gym at home. I've already identified the things I need i.e. Squat Racks, Dumbbells, Barbells, Mats etc. I had a few questions though…where would it be best to get these items (value-wise and longevity-wise). I know the easy answer is buying second hand from someone's failed attempt of getting fit but legitimately can't find anyone on gumtree near me and would like to build this ASAP.

Also, early I only just discovered early in February Aldi had a great fitness equipment sale with the half squat rack and weights, I'm pinching myself that I missed that sale. Any idea when that sale will return in rotation? Is it worth waiting?

Cheers heaps guys

Get a power rack much more versatile than a squat rack. I bought my power rack and weights from https://gymdirect.com.au/ They're located in Caringbah if you wanted to check the stuff out beforehand.

    • Hey man cheers for the reply,

How much did that all roughly cost you? and How are you finding the quality?
This one looks most appealing to me https://gymdirect.com.au/collections/power-racks-and-cages/p…
how do you think it compares to a very similar (but eBay) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Power-Rack-Squat-Cage-Stands-w-L…

I've got one similar to the first link and it's very solid, I bought it around 10 years ago and still using it. It is solid as, only has some small paint chips from racking the bar.

From memory I think I paid about $1500 for the power rack, bench, olympic barbell, ez curl bar, cable attachments and around 200kgs of plates.

        • This guy lifts.

Is this the one you suggest? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/48kg-Adjustable-Dumbbell-Set-Hom…

How do they even work :O

      • Just swirl the two end of the weight plate to the kg you want. Instant convert from 5kg to 24kg in seconds

I highly recommend against these. I've got a set and they broke. The clips holding a plate on failed.

Better off getting dumbbells with spin lock collars and you can share the plates with the bar.

      Where from Remove Kebab?

      • cyberfit

      • Serbia.

  • I recommend rouge they the standard when it comes to quality and most of the products like barbell power racks come with a life time warranty but worth it because the company is here to stay. They seem to be expensive and are NEVER EVER discounted its the one thing ozbargin hasn't delivered on for me but worth it if you're into the buy once cry once motto. Their racks also come with endless attachments like matador horns etc.
