Kingston HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset Red - $95.20 in-Store @ JB Hi-Fi

150

I've been after a set of these for a while now. Seems to be the cheapest price in a while.

I'm unsure if the other colours (Gun Metal/Black/Silver) are available for the same price (You'd need to check in-store).

Many will argue that a pair of Sennheisers + Mic is a better choice in terms of audio quality, but this is possibly the best "gaming headset" currently out there.

Sennheisers + mic is better yeah (Although AD700 are even better for gaming) but you can easily use this on your PC and consoles and it has a built in sound card so it's even better for people who game on a laptop or don't already own a sound card. Plus since it runs over USB if your front audio sockets are broken or you could never be bothered connecting them you can plug this into the front of your PC too :)

  • Have a microphone —> "Gaming Headset"

    • Well in this case they at least provide USB w/ built-in soundcard for PC and 3.5mm for console so it covers a bit more than just the regular 3.5mm "gaming" headsets.

This set has no USB stuff
        -source, i own a set.

This set does have the USB soundcard. You probably have the core version instead.

        • If true then you could report JB Hifi for false advertising as it's the very first thing mentioned in the product description

HyperX™ Cloud II features a redesigned USB sound card audio control box that amplifies audio and voice for an optimal Hi-Fi gaming experience

        • @conmos6: Damn - so it does. My bad. Mine was the Hyper X Alpha Pro…

    • You must have missed the virtual surround sound processing part.

I've had these headphones for a couple of years now, and they're the best headphones I've had. They're very comfortable, very well made and sound pretty good for the price. The mic is nothing special, but it works well enough for gaming.

  • I have the cheaper Stinger's and they are great for what I need (Skype etc). Audio is nice and Mic seems to be good enough (people don't complain on the other end)

Would these be much of a step up? I've heard the cloud alpha's are a touch better which JB has for $135

  • I'm still using these headphones and would definitely recommend them.

I bought them for the detachable mic.

msy had these for like $59 or $69 couple months ago, have the cloud cores for past couple years, great build quality, comfortable look good and sound is very good for the price I paid.

  • I've been reading and looking into the mentioned Sennheisers + Mic setup and are waiting for a deal to pop up. My thoughts are my headphones will be used for 90% other uses and only 10% gaming, so I'll buy a set for music/uni purposes and just attach a mic when gaming

If I was going to go down this path what is the best all-round/value for money model in the $200 - 300 range. I've seen M50X recommended before which can be bought at the moment for $199. If I was prepared to pay a little more to get an even superior/better value for money set of headphones is there any other popular/recommended models in the $199 to $300 range?

    Thanks

    • These are the ones I use at the moment:

(Although I paid much more for mine, they're cheap as now)

I find them quite comfortable for long periods of listening and to give good quality audio. I also have a pair of ATH-AD700 but they have been superseded by the ATH-AD700X now which are quite a bit more expensive around $250. They have a much more flat soundstage and are great for gaming but don't have much bass response so aren't the best for lots of music listening.

I quite enjoy this headset, great cushioning all over so they are quite comfortable. Mic is also detachable, for those interested.

Agree. Bought these for kids and they are super comfortable.

  • Bought these last time they were on special for about the same price - been through a lot of gaming headsets. If you like cabled, need a long cable, flexibility of TRRS 3.5mm mic/headphone combo on the short cable and separate mic / headphone 3.5mm on the extension these are great. Detachable mic works well too. Definitely beats similar priced headsets with a mod mic on top.

    • Damn - my set were the Hyper X Alpha Pro…

      please ignore the review above..

  • Are these plug and play 7.1 surround sound on ps4?

  • I got this headset and loved it.
The Microphone and soundcard broke after one and a half years of abuse, and Kingston support sent replacements over in a couple of days.
My cable eventually broke. Super happy with it while it lasted though.

I replaced these with the cloud alphas, and they sound even better, and also have a detatchable cable.
They removed the soundcard in the alphas (which I use the one from my cloud II's) so I get the best of both worlds.

Can't go wrong with either, just in case anyone wanted first hand experience with either one :)
