You definitely need a external DAC/Amp for these.

    • yes indeed

      • +4

        Or a lg v20

        • +4

The LG V20/V30 have great DAC's, possibly the best available on phones. These headphones however have an impedance of 600 ohms. While the DAC improves sound quality, these headphones would definitely require an AMP (Amplifier) to BOOST the volume. No phone I know of would run a 600 ohms impedance headphone at a high enough volume without an AMP.

          @POL1T1CS:

The quad DAC is rated to 600ohm

@Gharvey Snruff: The G/V series phones have the best DAC on any phone, with measurements that are comparable to $500+ DAP’s. But the amp, although excellent for a phone, is the bottleneck.

Without taking sensitivity into account, the LG phones will probably produce decent volume with 600ohm headphones, even my iPhone with half of the output voltage of a V20 has no trouble getting decent volume out of my 300ohm HD6xx.

The bigger issue with pairing hard to drive headphones with an insufficient amp is is how it effects dynamic range. No phone will properly drive 600ohm headphones.

    Must..resist…buying…more…headphones…😬

Sennheiser HD6xx, HD58x, HD598, Fidelio X2, DT770’s just in the last 12 months. Why do we do it? 😂

      • The wait for the hd6xx sucks though… The 990 or the 6xx…

    • 600 ohms is a fair bit of resistance…

I've always been put off these because no detachable cord.

    • I've had the 600Ohm DT880 for nearly 2 years now. Used it daily, sometimes I sleep through the night wearing them, no issues with the cable.

  • im looking for a pair of these but is this only a bargain because its the chrome special edition? i feel like you can buy cheaper DT990s

edit: nvm this is the premium line, not the cheaper pro

    • Just get the pros, AFAIK they sound exactly the same. Its just build quality is different.

      • The difference is the color. The build quality is the same. I have the special edition for DT770.

        • Get these. I just bought the premium a few weeks back for $250 delivered from amazon UK. These are cheaper currently, look better and have the newer bands. I've bought another one of these. I'll sell the premiums once they arrive.

  • I have the DT990s and i love it. It's not for everyone's hearing tatse though. It's either you love it or hate it.

      Trebletastic

      • Yes. You will need to test it out first. I have the 600ohm DT990 premium and the treble is so piercing that it hurts my ear. I could not tolerates it and so I have sold it for the cheap. Also during my ownership, I have taken great care of it and seldom use it because of the treble paintastic, the left speaker played up and after sending it off for repair and after a period of storage, it played up again. However, the warranty is great and they have repaired it despite outside the warranty period. I have read this is a common issue.

        • Can I ask which amp you were using?

        • +1

@Dc2itr: For solid state, im using Centrance miniDac, tube amp, darkvoice. DT990 works great with tubes.

        • @Dc2itr: JDS Labs O2+ODAC Amp.

  • Thought it was DT990 & DT880 for $139.99. Got me so excited until I saw "ea"

  • What’s the difference between these two models?

    • one is fully open, one is semi open

  • 880 out of stock :(. Also as already mentioned you’d want a decent external amp for the 600ohm versions.

    • Only one sold today and out of stock …

Apple earpods also sounds better than these DT's

Wow…obviously people can't make that im being really sarcastic. With this comment. If only the -ve voters saw my above comments on my audio gear that i have and judge me on that instead. Anyways, its all good 👍

  • The DT880 250 ohm are available for $30 USD more if anyone is interested. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332453425993

  • If you want some good (long) reviews of both — Zeos IMO is an incredibly honest, no bullshit reviewer (and mediocre cook)

  • The DT880 600ohm version is my favorite set of headphones.
Obviously not useful on flights, outside, in an noisy office, etc.
It pairs perfectly with this AMP (but find it cheaper somewhere) https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/schiit-audio-magni-2…

  • hmmm, considering the DT880s, the 990s look too colourful to me (according to the freq response graph):

I currently use Denon AH-D2000 headphones.

Judging by the history of your headphone, i'd suggest the 880s. The 990 needs to be heard before purchasing.
In saying so, i took the plunge when buying the 990s and fortunately, it suits my listening taste.
