Meh. At this price point save a bit of money and grab a oneplus 6.

    • +1

      From where?

    • +11

OnePlus 6 = at least $200 more expensive, worse camera, no manufacturer warranty (good luck with you 1 year Chinese seller warranty, and sending your phone to the other side of the world again), slower updates than Pixel.

There’s a lot of circle jerking over the OnePlus 6. It’s an expensive Chinadroid that will be superseded in 6 months because of Oneplus’s half annually release cycle.

    oneplus 6 smashes this s

    • Its camera alone smashes oneplus 6 dual lens!

I’m not a photographer nor pretend to be one, but on overall impression, I actually thought the OnePlus 6 photos looked best from the MKBHD video (link below) comparing five current flagship mobile phone cameras. Worth a look. Personally I own an iPhone X and although I think the camera takes beautiful and well-balanced photos, I did not like the iPhone X photos at all from the video

Meanwhile the rest of the phone is almost 2 years old and can't compete. Having dial lens is really great too, better than trying to zoom in the pixel haha

Oneplus 6 might be a great phone, but the biggest advantage the Pixel has over it is vanilla Android with direct updates and Australian support.

      • +1

Pixel doesn't have Australia support? Have to ship it to hk for repairs yourself. Also is last update will come in a few months, then only security patches, while op6 will get security patches for another 3 years and major updates for at least 2

        • +1

Meh oneplus has a poor track record of supporting their handsets and never committed to 2 year major updates. They also refreshes their handsets every 6 months so you won't get the best support.

Experience from a oneplus 3t user which was released at the end of 2016 but won't see Android p

        • -1

@zyo: have you not heard of project treble lol. Op6 has P beta. Through treble you get a min of 2 years. Nothing to do with One plus. Buying this at this price is actually bad value and high risk

        • +4

The OP says the Pixel is an Australian model which means it gets support direct from Google Australia. From my own experience with my old Nexus 6P, Google Australia support is easily one of the best I have ever dealt with.

You are correct, the Pixel will receive OS updates until October this year and security updates until October 2019 which is still arguably a lot better than most phone manufacturers.

It is also worth noting that vanilla Android performance is significantly better than other Android versions, especially as most tend to degrade with time. My Pixel XL is now coming up on 2 years old and the system is still as slick and responsive as it was when I first purchased it.

@FuRyZ: You have to post your Australian pixel to HK yourself.

It's not better what new phones will get, like op6, Nokia 7 plus. They will get updates till 2020.

P2XL is faster than OG PXL, just like OP6 is faster than both.

My the pixel xls were great when they worked. Having to deal with all the pixel 2xl issues now though….

        • @OnlinePred: treble only means it's easier for the manufacturer to develop os level customization it doesn't guarantee 2 year update. You need to do more research on this matter.

        • @zyo: you can build your own aosp rom based off treble right now for the s9. And Samsung provides 2 years anyway, just saying that treble phones will possibly get longer, as Google during last year's IO suggested it, but obviously we need to wait and see. So far though Samsung has provided updates for at least 3 years, and security updates for 4 years.

@OnlinePred: Incorrect, have you ever actually done a warranty return through Google Australia? I have.

They send you shipping labels and a courier picks up the phone from you. You dont ship anything yourself. Turn around on a replacement or repaired phone is extremely fast.

        • @FuRyZ: LOL. I have done 3 on my OG XL, and 2 on the P2XL. So yes I have, have you?

You don't ship anything yourself? So what the hell are you doing giving it to the courier lol - you have to print out labels yourself, then you have to be available the whole day for the courier to come pick up the labels and the phone. 2 out of 5 times, the courier didn't know what they were meant to do with the labels and box. I also am not allowed to receive parcels at work due to security, so I had to take a whole day off to wait for the courier, just to return the freaking phone lol. Also it goes to HK FYI. This is the same process you go through imported phones, except you can go to the post office whenever you like.

Better to get a nokia 7+ which has Android one at lower price

    • No sign of Nokia 6X? being available in Australia.

    • nokia seem to be moving into Android One and Treble compliance with great commitment. Test will be if Treble leads to 6 years of updates from Google.

  • Dual SIM>?

    • +1

      nope

  • +1

Over $500 for a phone that only has 4 months of OS updates left? No deal.

    • It'll be bricked after 12 months if this is the LG variant.

      • +3

LG didn’t manufacture the XL, but don’t let that stop you from leaving another pointless comment.

        • -2

I guess you don't know what the word if means.

        • @StoneSin: I guess you don’t know what the word pointless means.

        • -2

          @aja12: Nope. Definitely do.

    • While I wont be buying this for over $500 my Nexus 6P is still getting regular updates

      • +1

So you are on Android P beta?

        • Obviously not. But thats beta and only pixel phones have it. In saying that nexus is on 8.1 which is the same as android one phones

        • +1

          @pao2x:

You do understand you won't ever get an official P update, right?

        • @PainToad:

Yea, not fussed. It will be long overdue for a replacement and its still solid

      • Nexus 6P is still getting regular updates

Security updates. No OS updates. I dumped my Nexus 6 for a SE. I love Android, but got sick of Google piss poor customer service and support.

  • Near end of life, many potential issues, only 32gb model, can get new phones with longer support and more features for similar price.

    • Not had any issues (a bit of blue shift but I'm not a pixel peeper) other than stock android lacking a few things that were included with other phones but yeah 32gb really is far too little. I guess nearly all ppl are buying the 64gb phone as a minimum and google can't shift this model.

      • It was only 32 and 128gb for og pixels

        • Lol dyslexic me - I thought it was the pixel 2 XL! In that case I would not buy this and would spend a bit more for a Oneplus despite being a o/s model.

      • I have a 32GB XL and its not a big deal. You do get unlimited Google Photos storage for free so it automatically transfers and frees up storage.

    • Such as?

      • Nokia 7 plus off the top of my head. Push a bit more for Xiaomi mi mx2s.

  • It's an awesome phone, but is it really still retailing at this price 2 years later?

  • Cheaper on ebay $422.75 https://goo.gl/HbnCrS and comes with the seller 2 year warranty.

  • The 128 GB model is the exact same price, which makes it a marginally ok deal. The only reason you'd really buy this is the strong aftermarket support from XDA and lineage.

    • That’s not the XL.

  • $328 and free shipping with this Aus seller and stock with 1yr warranty.. plus another 5% discount with PULL5 checkout code:
