Also comes with a free mouse mat as well

  • “Hardcore gamers” nice marketing vocabulary. Hope it has at least a 100hz panel

  • Weight (kg) 2.7000

    • Yeah, it's a desktop replacement, not an Ultrabook.

      • The desktop replacement excuse is more valid with the 3KG+ 17.3" laptops… Those are designed to be stationary quite often and aren't exactly intended for portability.

15.6" is usually meant to be portable. With this, 2.7KG is pretty close to the point where you can't practically take it in carry on luggage. By the time you add in the weight of a bag/case you're already pushing 5KG. For short domestic trips you might be fine, but internationally where you'll typically want a spare set of clothes, travel documents and chargers in your carry on it'll be too heavy.

For comparison, there's been 1.9KG offerings with same specs for around $1,600 (through customising to match specs - 512GB drive down to 128, 8GB RAM up to 16).

        • Most airlines allow a piece of carry on and another item like a handbag or laptop case. No need to keep it in the bag if they complain your bag is too heavy. Just my experience.

        • @ozbjunkie:

I assume you're not carrying a 15.6" 2.7KG laptop though. I've seen many get away with 11.6 and even 13.3" laptop bags at time, but 15.6" would be really pushing it… Quite doubtful. Maybe on Qantas domestic flights on a good day…

        • @dyl:

Asus gaming laptop from 2010 so yeah actually 3kg or so.

        • @ozbjunkie:

          Size…? Carry bag..?

Are you flying only Qantas? Domestic?

As mentioned I wouldn't be surprised if Qantas accepted it domestically, though it would be at their discretion.

        • @dyl:

Size umm 15.6 inches plus a bit? Yep in a small carry sleeve with a strap so, it's a bag. Qantas international, British airways, Cathay, Singapore, virgin Atlantic.

  • Damn…. only if this was on sale one month ago.

  • The deal on Amazon US is for $1049 -> https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-5…

It has a 256GB SSD (I think SATA, which is probably the only downside). This version has a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The HDD is a drag on performance and noise.

Is the HDMI port a 2.0? No Thunderbolt 3. Otherwise, great specs.

    • 128GB M.2 NVMe SSD
      HDMI port is 2.0
      No thunderbolt 3

It has easy access to the additional HDD and 2 RAM slots. To get to the main SSD and wifi you will need to remove the whole back off the laptop.

      • HDMI 2.0a or HDMI 2.0b? Also, the 128GB seems a bit too slim. What are the thoughts on having the OS installed on this and using a HDD for most storage and read/writes. Less than ideal?

        • It's HDMI 2.0 so won't output HDR but will do 4k @60hz. 128GB is enough for OS and a game around 50GB, definitely not ideal but the only real downside with a HDD is longer load times.
Now the price has gone up it's not worth it. I would spend a bit more and get one with a better screen and 256GB SSD ;)

    • ~$1388 + GST = $1526

  • $1796 for me, how do you get it for $1496??

    • Same. It was showing $1496 ($300 off) on Saturday now $1796 @20% off. Interesting tactics Harvey Norman…
If you can get free shipping maybe the deal on Amazon jjtav posted above? Or I'm sure Harvey "misleading" Norman will reduce the price in again the future.

      • The problem with the Amazon US deal is that you get charged the customs duties and the estimated final price works out to be around $1720 AUD, incl. standard shipping.

  • DDR4 RAM on this chip is expandable to 64gb, not 32gb.
